Chapter 8

"Aksa," the figure said with a cold and threatening tone. "I think your game is over." The woman stepped in, ignoring the two security guards trying to hold her back. She wore a sharp black suit and held a gold badge in her hand. Her eyes stared sharply at Aksa. "Sloane Adler. Special Prosecutor from the Attorney General's Office," the woman said loudly. Aksa did not look surprised at all. He instead leaned back in his chair, raising one hand. "Leave us, Leo. All of you, get out." "But, Mr. Aksa, she forced her way—" "Get out," Aksa ordered flatly. Leo and the security guards immediately withdrew and closed the double doors tightly. Now only Aksa, Viera, Valerie, and Prosecutor Sloane remained in the room. Sloane walked closer to Aksa's desk and threw a brown folder onto the table. "An official summons and a temporary asset freezing order," Sloane said without further ado. "We have strong evidence that you committed stock market manipulation and illegal extortion against Victor Belmont last night." Valerie, who had been standing stiffly in the corner of the room, immediately raised her head. Her eyes sparkled seeing an opportunity. "Prosecutor Adler!" Valerie exclaimed quickly, stepping forward. "I am Valerie Belmont. I can testify! This man forced my father to sign the asset handover under the threat of prison!" Sloane turned to Valerie, smiling faintly. "Excellent, Miss Belmont. Your testimony will be very helpful to imprison this bastard." "Open your mouth one more word, Valerie," Aksa cut in. His voice was not loud, but enough to make the room temperature feel like it dropped instantly. "And the original documents of your father's tax evasion in the Bahamas will reach the judge's desk at two o'clock this afternoon." Valerie's steps stopped forcefully. Her breath caught. "You choose, Valerie," Aksa continued coldly, staring into the Belmont heir's eyes. "Become an expert witness for this prosecutor, or escort your father to an isolation cell today. The decision is in your hands." Valerie swallowed hard. Cold sweat once again soaked her back. She looked down and took two steps back, not daring to look at Sloane anymore. Sloane slammed Aksa's desk hard. "You cannot intimidate a witness in front of me, Aksa!" "That is not intimidation, Prosecutor Adler. That is a business choice," Aksa replied casually. "Besides, you came here only armed with suspicion. Where is the evidence that I manipulated the market?" "You used a shell company called Horizon Investment to set Victor up," Sloane hissed, leaning forward. "Then you deliberately sabotaged your own port so your shares would plummet. Once Victor bought your shares with your loan funds, you confiscated his assets. That is premeditated economic crime!" Aksa chuckled softly. "A very imaginative accusation. Unfortunately, you do not have a single sheet of evidence connecting my name to the port sabotage." "I have witnesses from the port workers' union," Sloane challenged sharply. "They admitted to accepting bribes." "Paid witnesses can say anything," Aksa stared at Sloane with a condescending smirk. "Bring them to court. Let's see if their testimony can last more than five minutes against my legal team. You are only wasting your time, Sloane." Sloane straightened her body, her jaw tightening. "You think you can buy the law. I have imprisoned dozens of arrogant billionaires like you, Aksa. You are not the first." "They are billionaires. I am a predator," Aksa returned Sloane's gaze without flinching in the slightest. "You walked into the wrong cage. Take this summons of yours, and get out of my office." Sloane stared at Aksa full of hatred. She took back her brown folder. "I will give you twenty-four hours. Enjoy your grand chair while you can, Aksa. The day after tomorrow, you will wear a prison uniform." Without waiting for a reply, Sloane turned around and walked out of the room with quick steps. The door slammed shut. Silence once again enveloped the CEO's office. Valerie was still looking down in fear, while Viera looked at Aksa with admiration mixed with anxiety. Aksa stood up from his chair, grabbing his draped black suit. "Clear my schedule this afternoon, Viera," Aksa ordered while straightening his shirt. Viera frowned. "Clear it? But, Aksa, that prosecutor just threatened to freeze our assets. Shouldn't we gather the legal team right now?" "No need. I have personal business," Aksa cut in. "What personal business is more important than the company?" Viera pressed, unknowingly crossing the line of her obedience. Aksa turned his head, staring at Viera sharply. "Since when do you have the right to question my decisions, Viera?" Viera immediately looked down, biting her lower lip. "I'm sorry, Aksa." Aksa stepped out of the room without saying anything else. As soon as the door closed, Viera raised her face. Her mind was in turmoil. Aksa never ignored a business threat. There must be something or someone so important that made the predator leave his headquarters in the middle of a crisis. Jealousy and curiosity began to burn in Viera's chest. Viera grabbed her handbag. "Where are you going?" asked Valerie, who finally dared to speak. "Following my superior," Viera answered coldly. "Do you want to come, or do you want to stay here mourning your defeat?" Valerie narrowed her eyes. She hated Viera, but she also needed to know Aksa's weaknesses if she wanted to free herself. "I'm coming." The two elite women hurried down and hailed a taxi. They told the taxi driver to follow Aksa's black sedan from a safe distance. The journey took almost an hour, moving away from the city center and skyscrapers. Aksa's car finally stopped in a quiet and simple-looking suburb. Viera told her taxi to stop across the street. From inside the taxi, Viera and Valerie watched Aksa get out of the car. The man took off his suit, threw it in the back seat, then rolled up his shirt sleeves to the elbows. Aksa then walked into a small, seemingly quiet wooden cafe called 'Siena's Brew'. "A suburban cafe? What is he here for?" Valerie muttered in confusion. Viera did not answer. She got out of the taxi and crossed the street with quick steps. Valerie immediately followed behind her. They stopped right in front of the cafe's glass window. Viera peeked inside. The sight inside made Viera's blood boil. Aksa was sitting on a rickety wooden chair, smiling—a warm and sincere smile that Aksa never showed her. Across the table sat a simply dressed girl with a cloth apron. The girl handed over a glass of tea, and Aksa stroked the girl's head with extraordinary gentleness. Jealousy exploded in Viera's head. Her pride was torn apart seeing Aksa treat that ordinary woman like precious porcelain, while Viera was only treated like an obedient w***e. Without thinking long, Viera pushed the cafe door roughly. The door chime rang loudly. "Aksa!" Viera snapped, her voice echoing in the narrow room. "You ignored the prosecutor's threat just for a cheap woman—" Viera's words were forcefully stopped. Aksa turned his head. His warm smile vanished in a split second, replaced by a murderous aura so dense that it made Valerie, who had just stepped inside, freeze in fear as well. Before Viera could blink, Aksa had already moved. The man lunged forward, grabbed Viera's neck with one large hand, and slammed the woman's back against the wall next to the door. "A-Agh..." Viera whimpered, her feet off the floor. The aproned girl gasped and stood up from her chair. "Aksa, don't! Who are they?!" "Close your eyes, Siena," Aksa cut in with a gentle tone without turning his head. Then his eyes returned to glaring at Viera with the demonic glint of a grim reaper. Aksa brought his face close to Viera's ear as she struggled for air. "It seems you have forgotten, Viera. The punishment for a pet who dares to bark in her master's house is..."
