A SACRIFICE FOR LOVE

CHAPTER EIGHT : THE FIRST GAME

Morning came and everyone was woken up by a big bell which rang loudly enough for everybody to hear. Meagan's eyes were so heavy since she had slept late thinking so many things. After few minutes of getting prepared, all of them gathered at a big hall for breakfast. Murmurs of the students echoed inside as Meagan sips her tea silently sitting besides Maya.

After the breakfast, the school director came in with the school principal and other two male standing on his left making them to stand immediately.

' Good morning?' he greeted sighing them to take their sit.

After the greetings everywhere went silent once more while he continued talking like he always does.

' Well, Mr. Paul here will tell you what the first game will be since he's a military soldier from Heroes army,' he said pointing to the man who was wearing an army uniform. He was standing straight like a real trained soldier even a smile wasn't planted on his huge face.

'Um, he commenced with his deep voice which scared some of the ladies as he move closer.

' First game will start now after have finished speaking with you, you'll all gonna make two qeues for both boys and girls. We will all leave from here direct to the forest where you'll find everything has been arranged according to it's position. No more movements unless you're told to or selected for a special duty to do. If you lose, l repeat once more so open your both ears, if you lose thrice, their is always a real punishment for you to work on,' he finished walking away with the other comrade that he came in with.

Everyone got stunned with his last remark which made some of them to start complaining. The school director didn't give them his hears so he just walked out with the principal leaving them stranded.

Few minutes passed and all of them were standing in the middle of the huge forest. The view of their first game made them to lose hope. Some wished to be given the punishment rather than going inside that disgusting mud. The area was so muddy and it gave them a very hard time to walk so they were told to remove their shoes and walk on bare foot.

Some girls like Kate obviously were the first people to decline but the hard stare they were given by that soldier whom she didn't capture his name made her to obey.

' It's either you get abide with these simple rules or you go and cut those big logs that are placed inside that small cabin over there,' he shouted as the students look at the direction which his fore finger was pointing at.

' Argh! they murmured letting his words to abide them. No one spoke till the game started.

' So our first contestants are Willy Paul and Danger Ben, Joe Johnson and Sylvia Mia, Dean John Sylvester and Michael young' he said as they step forward.

' You are both given four minutes for you to pass under this fence not touching either of the wire beneath you ,because if you do so, there is a dangerous electricity shock at the wire. You must make sure that when you come out of that heavy mud your body should have no scratches. Even a little one.' he said as other sudent shook in fear. No one dared to speak while he was still talking.

' So, you may all now start,' he finished tapping his watch as he wave the red flag across them as a sign.

They entered inside the mud as they crawled with their hearts on their sweating hands. Time continued ticking as Soldier Paul keeps on reminding them what minutes or seconds they've remained with.

' Thirty seconds remaining, he shouted as they struggle to move inside the heavy mud.

' Nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two and one,' he counted as they both reach at the White flag which was few meters away from them.

' Yes! They hugged each other as other students applaud at them. ' Ghosh! that was a really hard task for them to begin, artilist they've finished it,' Sara said.

' So now you have both successfully finished your first game without any scratches, you may go and wash your bodies,' Paul said as he turns to call the next players.

' Next is Maya Brendah and Andy Kenya, Japheth Berry and Fernande wensly, he said as they walk Infront too.

' Now start, he passed a red flag across them as they both deep their bodies inside the cold mud. Maya screamed as terror develops her but Andy took her hand and slide it into his as they move silently with the time.

' Come on, breath slowly. If you breath heavily this mud might chock you and you gonna be suspended for this or even die, you know,' he assured making her heart beat to rise the moment she heard the word 'die' coming out of his mouth. She couldn't help seeing herself loosing at the first game so she closed her eyes and went with his flow as he stares at her silently.

' Thirty seconds remaining,' he shouted as they struggle to reach the flag. Roy looked at them from far still holding the same expression which Meagan couldn't further told like anybody else. She peeked at him through her left eye but before she could move it away Roy caught it at the exact spot. She couldn't hide it anymore because she was already caught rather she raised up her face and their eyes locked for some minutes.

Before she could blink away, Roy threw her a kiss in the air and she couldn't help it but look away as he smirk. She looked if someone had watched his act but no one saw it because everyone was busy clapping their hands for the second winning team. She looked at Roy's side and he saw him tapping Andy's shoulder for the great job.

' Now our last but not least team are, Kate Cruz and Carlos Sang, Jared Prado and Mitchell Tech, Meagan Lopez and Roy Lee, please let's get started so that the last team can commence too,' he said wiping his sweat with his blue handkerchief he was holding since the game started.

' Start, he shouted as he flung away his red flag as a signal.

They crawled inside the heavy Mud but there legs weren't moving. Meagan tried her best not to get scratched by those wires but suddenly Kate pushed her back making her to stumble back. She cursed as she slide back from where they started and Roy stopped moving going back for her.

' Move, don't mind her, she'll be alright. Let's win this,' Kate cried holding Roy's hand making him to continue but his eyes were fixed on Meagan who was still struggling to stand and get the balance.

Time ticked and some were already finishing their last line but Meagan was still abit far from them. She was struggling as she takes in her heavily breathe as some of the muds got inside her mouth which made her to start coughing. She couldn't help but halt for some seconds as she take in more air.

' Come on, you can do it, he heard someone speaking and she opened her eyes to look at Roy who's eyes were fixed on her.

' l.... I... Can't he... lp... it,' she stammered taking more breath. Roy couldn't help but swipe her from the heavy mud and take her out before they could reach at the white flag.'

' What are you....

' She can't breathe Mr,' he cut soldier Paul immediately he came closer.

' Take her to the room and wait for me, you have some questions to answer,' he commanded while Roy ignores him walking away Meagan in his arms.

' And what are you all looking at?' Next, he shouted calling the last team as they both move at the same corner in fear.

Roy placed Meagan on the cold floor who has just passed out few minutes in his arms as he wipes away the muddy strands of her hair on her sleeping face. He stared at her for a moment before walking away leaving her lying there with no one to look after.

' What's wrong? the principal asked as he meets Roy who was just leaving.

' She passed out when the mud chocked her. She couldn't breath so l took her off the game and brought her hear,' he replied as the Principal nods in satisfaction as he enters inside where she was lying. Roy glanced at her for some seconds and he left when he saw two ladies walking in with the first aid box.

' Am here sir,' Roy said after the game has ended and everyone was busy relaxing.

' Did you knew that walking out of the game before it ends it's also one of the rules which are not supposed to be broken?' Paul asked taking off his jacket placing it on the chair.

' Yes sir,' he replied his question as firmly as no one could think of. Paul wondered why this man wasn't scared of him as he glare at him for some minutes. He didn't have a choice than to tell him to go and collect his group to go and cut the big logs inside the small cabin. Roy walked out and informed his group as he was instructed.

' I thought we worn, how come we got punished for something which we didn't do?' Kate complained looking at Meagan who has just woken up few minutes ago and joined them for the task.

' Stop acting like an innocent victim silly Kate, if you didn't pushed her back, we wouldn't be here cutting this hard logs. It's all your fault, hmm,' Mitchell retorted picking up her axe walking towards her log. Before she could move far, Kate caught her long hair from behind and pushed her on the ground. She whipped in pain as the fight starts between them.

Kate was on top of her while her hands grip tightened on her hair and scratching her innocent face making sure that she had scratched her hardly. Meagan saw her bleeding and she came between them dragging Kate by her hair.

' You i***t, you made me loose and here you are fighting everyone who tries to correct you, do you know how painful it is , huh? She asked while her hands get attached to her red shorten hair which she had just dyed few days before the trip.

' Hey, leave my hair you....you.... mad woman,' she shouted trying to free her hands from her strong grip. Roy and the rest couldn't help but to stare and watch the free movie they've just downloaded few minutes ago with free bundles. No one moved from their position as they watch how Meagan's grip got tightened on Kate's short hair.

' l told you actions will start working if you don't leave me alone but you kept pumpers in your dirty ears, you thought l was joking you some piece of jerk, Meagan retorted again as the soldier tries to reveal Meagan's grip at Kate's hair.

He tried his best but nothing worked. It seems that Meagan's grip was hard as a rock whereby he called for some help.

' You idiots stop starring at the free movie which you've just downloaded, come here and help me to free her. This girl's grip is really tight l can't pull it own my own.' he shouted at Roy and his group who were glued on their spot.

' You think dealing with women's fight it's that easy? You thought that you are too strong to handle them now you're calling for help? A real soldier like you, huh? Roy mocked as he put his back at the tree trunk as others look at him at his sudden reply.

' Am tired with all this madness you silly women, stop fighting or else am gonna suspend you on this trip,' Paul shouted lossing his grip on Meagan's hand as he put his hands at the akimbo. He wiped the sweat on his forehead shaking his head in disappointment.

' It's true that disengaging women from their fights it's really a hard task, he murmured picking the water from the group gulping it as soon as possible moving away to go and join the rest who were watching the free action movie.

' Huh! You quite at last, didn't he told you? Jared asked while Roy on his position moved taking a step towards the fighting scene. Now Kate was on top of Meagan who seem that her struggles were diminishing. Roy knelt at them and murmured something on Kate's ear who was surprised at once as she leaves Meagan's collar.

She licked her dripping blood from her lower lip spatting some out as she glare at Meagan.

' You think so?' she asked Roy after a short silence as he nods in agreement. She stood up picking her things walking away leaving Meagan still on the ground looking at Roy in disbelief.

' Now stand up since have saved your freaking lifeless body from an hungry bear,' he said giving her a hand but she snapped it away leaving them too still standing on their positions.

' Phew! at last l can breath, the movie has ended still not knowing the winner, but you see that red dyed hair girl, she's really a bad ass. And this other girl, she's more stronger than..... Soldier Paul was cut off by Roy who just waved his hand at him as if he didn't want to hear more words coming from his filthy mouth.

' Next time don't move around smelling your nose into other people's door or else your nose gonna break into small pieces,' Carlos who has been quiet since the fight threatened waking away as others follow leaving Paul behind.

' Yes, I'll never ever intrude into women's fight again rather if l only want my death to be easy like one, two and three,' he murmured silently walking away too forgetting that he had given them a task.

No one knew that there was a free movie outside the cabin except the group. Time kicked off and everyone went to their different places to asleep and wait for tomorrow's day, except for Meagan who was still roaming outside. She had tried to sleep but something was waking her up. She tried to figured it out but no question could pop inside her mind.

She passed through the hall and move near a small bridge which was going back to the road. She walked until she reached at a big tree where she stopped for some minutes. She listened for then heard some murmurs that were coming from the tree and she decided to move closer to listen.

' You think am lying?' I really do like you Roy, it's just that when l see you flattering around that jerk Meag..... Kate couldn't finished as Roy shush her by placing his Finger on her lips.

' Don't mention her name, l don't like her either, it's just that am trying to play around with her mind, he answered looking at her. Kate didn't know if she should believe him or not but the fact that he mentioned that he was playing around with her mind made her to believe him even more. She was so happy when she heard those words coming out of his mouth.

' Are you sure? Don't play with mine too or else I'll kick your ass out,' she replied just to be sure with his words.

Roy couldn't help but to chuckle alittle which she didn't notice as he nods in agreement. In few moments, he placed his warm and soft lips onto hers kissing her passionately. Kate couldn't wait for the response as she kiss him back hungrily making Meagan to step back in shock.

' So.... am... he's trying to.... to... She mumbled slowly tears flowing from her face as those hurtful words that he had said earlier stab inside her heart. She didn't know why she was hurting from inside as she watches them from that position. She couldn't help it but walk away as her legs trembles from one step after the other.

She hated the fact that, Roy has been comparing her like a dirty young duster and the thought made her sick the moment she slide her body inside her hot blanket. Tears fell as she wonder if she had ever hurt anyone.
