Chapter Two: An Even Weirder Dream
Jade's pov:
The man who pulled you through the portal comes toward me and gently places his hand on my shoulder. "Jade, this will be quite painful but it's normal since you haven't been here in years,"
I have never been here before, yet he sounds so sure of himself that it's almost laughable. However, despite my confusion at this point, I allowed the man to lead me toward the light. The pain grows worse as the light begins to illuminate the area, revealing the vast expanse of empty space surrounding us. In the middle is an enormous circular door that is covered in symbols that resemble writing but you can't read them.
"Jade, this was your home before leaving us to go on earth," the man says. He takes a deep breath and closes his eyes. After a couple of moments, his hands begin to glow orange.
Your heart beats loudly as the orange glow starts to intensify, the color spreading throughout the entire space. "Don't be alarmed, the orange glow is to unlock the door," he says, which does nothing to slow my heartbeat. He walked toward the door, lifting his hand to the writing.
. Then a loud boom rings out across the expanse of space and suddenly the symbols disappear.
"It's time to awaken," the man says, opening his eyes.
What?
He grabs my hand and pulls me toward the door, and as you approach, he reaches forward and unlocks it. You step through and are instantly mesmerized by the scene that unfolds right in front of you. You find yourself staring at a giant white chandelier hanging from the ceiling, illuminated by hundreds and thousands of flickering candles that dance merrily above, casting shadows across the room and reflecting in multiple crystal shards scattered across the floor. As you move further into the room you spot dozens of large golden plaques with images of people wearing crowns carved into their faces adorning the walls. These people are all beautiful and powerful and appear to be kings or queens of ancient Greece; many of them look eerily similar to you, but that can't be possible. At first, they seem to be pictures, but as soon as you focus on each plaque, you discover that it actually contains words engraved in gold and etched with symbols and images. You reach out and touch the plaque next to you but your finger barely makes contact with the polished metal surface when the writing starts to glow white, causing you to gasp.
You turn toward the man who brought you here. "Why am I. Who are you?" you ask. He smiles and gestures for you to follow as he moves closer to a large door, but as he opens it, you realize it leads to the throne room. You're overwhelmed by an immense sense of peace that fills you as you gaze at the throne.
As I lift my head up to the man who's sitting there looking like a god. His eyes shone gold. It's like nothing I've ever seen - it's almost as if he could burn the whole building to ashes and it wouldn't matter.
"Jade, do you know why you are here?" He asks, his voice echoing throughout the vast hall. You shake your head no slowly as you look back toward the throne.
The king is the most gorgeous and imposing man you have ever seen.
His long brown hair falls down his shoulders, tumbled around as if it were made out of silk and his eyes twinkle brightly in the candlelight.
"You are here because it's time for you to learn your history."
"History?" you repeat, looking back over at him questioningly.
He smiles again, nodding his head in agreement with you before gesturing for you to sit on the edge of the stone platform. "Come on Jade - sit, I have a proposition for you," you walk slowly toward him as his eyes remain trained on your face, seeming to stare straight into your soul. You're mesmerized by his eyes as you sit at the edge of the platform feeling completely vulnerable.
"What proposition?" You asked.
"Do you believe in destiny?"
"Destiny?" You ask hesitantly, not wanting to offend anyone.
by answering a question they weren't expecting
"Yes," he says, nodding his head in affirmation.
"Our worlds were supposed to collide years ago, but as fate had it, we wouldn't meet until another lifetime," he says, placing his hand over yours on the stone platform, as if he can sense the fear you must be experiencing. You look down into the palm of his hand as you feel a small spark. "But destiny doesn't end now Jade, no one can change their past, nor can they change where they come from. All we can do is make our future better", he continues. You don't really understand what he means by that, but you nod nonetheless.
"I have been waiting for you for centuries and I don't want to waste a second more," he said with a sly smile. "I have an offer for you - stay with me for thirty nights, and if you fall in love with me by that time, you must stay and become my queen. But be warned, I will do all that I can to make you mine."
Your mind immediately goes blank as your heart races and your palms grow clammy as he stares intently at you, waiting for your response. You feel a sense of overwhelming fear and uncertainty wash over you, unsure of how to respond to such a daunting proposition.
As the seconds tick away, you can feel the tension mounting between you both as he waits patiently for you to speak.
You take a deep breath and close your eyes but the words flow out of your mouth unbidden as the warmth of his hand engulfs yours as if it belongs to a warm, comforting fire. A fire that burns your insides with heat.
As you open your eyes, you can feel his stare burning holes into you as if he's trying to penetrate your soul, and just like he did when I first walked into the throne room he looks you right in the eyes and holds you captive in a trance-like state.
His eyes penetrate your soul, waiting for your answer. You muster up all the courage you have and reply, "I can't promise you that I will fall in love with you, but I am willing to stay for thirty nights and see where this goes." You can see the satisfaction in his eyes as he nods slowly, his grip on your hand tightening. "Very well," he says, "let the games begin." As he leads you away, you can't help but wonder what you've gotten yourself into, but you know that you're in too deep to turn back now.
