Chapter three - Powers and dreams

Cassie's POV:

For the past week, I have been going out. Sadly, I had no luck. I want to believe the person is my age, but I can't. There must be a way how I can find him. Maybe he is in the other part of the town. I have been searching in my area. Well, I went to a couple of malls. It's not like I had luck. There are so many people that I haven't seen. Sometimes, I feel like the person is close to me. At least there is one good thing about my power. I can use my aura to find him when I search for someone I know. If my granny is somewhere and I need to check where she is, I can do that using my aura. People are unique, and the same is for their aura. That's why when I meet someone new, I can make a difference between him and everyone I know. Up to now, the most powerful one I know is my grandmother's. She keeps saying that mine is better than hers. I don't see myself as that different, but I know one thing. There is a person with the same aura as mine, and I have to find him. Luckily, I don't have time during which I have to do that. The problem is that this person probably doesn't know about this. Maybe that is better. Otherwise, he will try to figure out how it works. I believe that ordinary people have their problems. For now, I plan to stop searching. I'm getting tired and wasting my summer. Maybe I won't find him this year. I can try at university. I don't plan to move out of town. That way, I will have plenty of time to do it. I still have no idea what to do when I meet him. That is not something easy to explain. Also, not believable. You can read this in a book. In real life, no one will believe you. It won't be easy, but I won't give up. I hope that the person will appear by himself. It will save me a lot of time.

Currently, I am in my room, reading the book from Beth. I probably have checked every page a thousand times. There is nothing here that can help me. I have searched on the internet, but everything is theories. No one knows anything about it. I hoped to find a web page from someone with the same power. The luck wasn't on my side. Why does it have to be that hard? It's like I am searching for a green needle in a backyard. Nothing is impossible, but I don't know how long I should do this. Let's hope that he will appear by himself.

I left my book and went to the kitchen. All these pages made me hungry. To my surprise, granny was there, eating. Why didn't she come to my room? As I see it, there is no one else in the house. She needs to find friends. Seeing her alone makes me upset. It's not like I am better. I made myself a bowl of cereal and sat next to her. It looks like she is thinking about something.

- Um, granny. Hello.

- Oh, hello, my dear. How are you?

- I'm fine, thanks. What are you doing here alone?

- I came to visit your mom, but she left for work.

- You could've come to see me.

- No. For now, I will stop this and enjoy my summer. Later, I will start searching again.

- I'm sorry that you couldn't enjoy it.

- No, it's ok. I am excited to find the person, but it takes time. Also, I got tired.

- Why don't you go out and do something for yourself? Do you like SPA?

- Not really. I don't see myself on a bed while someone else touches me.

- Then, what do you like to do?

- I don't know. I spend a lot of time searching. That's why I don't know what I like. Well, walks are not bad.

- Ok, go for a walk.

- Do you have other books about aura and powers? The one Beth gave me is useless.

- I have a copy of it.

- It's not helping.

- What about auntie Kim?

- She doesn't keep things like that at home. You can go to a bookshop.

- Maybe I will.

I talked with my granny for a while. Later, I went to a bookstore. I walked straight to the myths and legend section. Usually, every store sells the same books. I have been in two already and have had no luck. Well, I found a book. It was the one which I have. Maybe I will have a chance in a library. The biggest one in town is in the center. It's on four floors and has every book which you can imagine. Also, it gets updated every week. New books come.

- Hello, Abby.

- Hey, Cassie. How can I help you?

- I am here for the same reason as the last time.

- Ok, come with me. I have to tell you something.

- What? Is there a problem?

- No, but it might be interesting for you.

Abby Chester is one of the people in town with a strong aura. She knows about my power. That's why I don't hide anything from her. She works here Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On the other days, there is another woman. I can talk about this only with Abby. She took me to a bookshelf and gave me a book.

- This is a copy of a book. It's another mythology. It might be interesting for you.

- Is this what you want to tell me?

- No. There is a rumor about a book. It's only one. It has everything you need to know about aura and its power. If you have problems, you can find a solution there.

- Ok, great. Can you give me the book?

- I don't know where it is.

- What? How don't you know where it is?

- I told you it was a rumor. I'm not sure if it exists. Why don't you ask Beth or your grandmother? They must know more than me.

- Do you at least know who might have an interest in it?

- No, I'm sorry. I have never seen it, so I can't confirm anything.

- This day can't get better.

- I'm sorry, Cassie. You can take this book right here. It's not much, but it can help.

- Thanks. I will read it.

- How is your search going?

- Well, for now, I have stopped. I got tired.

- I gladly will help you, but I can't.

- It's ok. I have to do this by myself.

- Maybe the new school will help you.

- That's what I am hoping. Ok, I will go now. I will return the book when I read it.

- Don't worry. No one else except you takes books like this.

I walked out of the library. Soon is my aunt's lunch break, and I would love to visit her. I'm sure she knows something about this mysterious book. Since people talk about that, it's probably true. Ok, I need to find it. Granny has a lot of books, but I don't think she has this one. After all, I don't know how it looks. Neither does Abby. I went to a building and asked for a meeting with my aunt. Soon I was in her office.

- Hello, Cassie. What do you want us to talk about today?

- So, I found this book in the library. It's not something that will help me.

- Let me see. Ok, I have seen this book. It got based on myths.

- I know, but that's not why I am here.

- Go on and tell me everything.

- Abby told me a rumor about one book.

- What book?

- She said if I have problems, this book has a solution for everything I need. It might help me find the person I have been looking for so long. Do you know anything about it?

- I have heard the rumor, but that's it. I don't know where the book is.

- Abby told me to ask granny, but I don't think she knows.

- Mom has a lot of books, and she might know something.

- You haven't seen the book have you?

- No. I'm sorry.

- I guess I have to search for another thing. When will this end?

- Is this book important to you?

- It can help me find the person.

- You don't need a book for that. Follow your aura.

- That's what everyone says.

- Because it's true. Books help but can't resolve our problems.

With that, I walked to my granny's house. I'm not sure if she knows something about this book, but I have to ask her. I knocked on the door, but no one answered. My aura tells me she is inside. I opened the door and walked in. She was cooking in the kitchen. That's why she didn't hear me. I carefully walked behind her and tapped her shoulder.

- Smells good.

- Oh, hello. What brings you here?

- I have a question.

- Ok, go on.

- I found a book in the library. Auntie Kim said she had heard of it. Probably you too. - I said and pulled it out

- Yes, I did. It's an old book. What is your question?

- Abby told me a rumor about a book that exists. I can find everything about my power and aura there. Do you know anything about it?

- I have heard the rumors. Many people want the book.

- Is it that powerful?

- No, but I have heard it can help you control your power.

- Do you have any idea where I can find it?

- No. I'm sorry. Why are you searching for it?

- This book might help me find the person.

- Your power is strong. A book won't help you.

- Why are you so sure?

- Look, kid. Enjoy your summer, and don't search for non-existent things.

- You sound like my mom now.

I helped my granny with dinner. Sometimes I feel bad for her. She is alone all day. Before, she and grandpa always did something together. They loved doing activities, even if it was something simple. I'm glad that she is happy and has moved on. Living in the past wasn't going to make it easy for her. After all, she loved him a lot. He was her perfect match. When the food was ready, we put it on the table.

- It's delicious. - I said

- I'm glad that you like it.

- Can you be honest and tell me everything you know about this mysterious book?

- Great. Where is the man?

- Granny, I know when you lie. Why don't you want to tell me about this book? Is it dangerous or something?

- It doesn't exist, ok? I created the rumor.

- Because people wondered. I mean, where I knew so much about aura and its power. That's why I told them there is a book that I have read. It was my only way to live in peace.

- Why didn't you start with that from the beginning?

- I knew you wouldn't like it.

- Well, spreading rumors is not my favorite thing. I'm sorry all of this has happened to you.

- It's in the past. I don't want to talk about it.

- What about the book which I took today? Do you think it can help me?

- It's good for you to read it. I'm sure you can find something useful.

- I hope so. Summer will end soon, and I had no success.

- Hey, don't stress much. You don't have time during which to find this person. Take your time.

- I know, but if I stop searching for him, he might discover his power. I can't risk it.

- I'm pretty sure your person is a teenage boy your age.

I stayed with granny until midnight. Later, I walked home. I would love to talk with her about my aura more. She needs to take a rest. Honestly, I'm glad she is here. I miss my grandpa. If he was alive, he couldn't help me with my search. I want to bring him back to life, but I can't. My power can't do that. I only can cure people who are alive. Maybe that's what I have to do. Help people. It's a good thing, especially when not everyone is good nowadays. For now, I will focus on my search and the book I got. It's full of myths and theories, but I will read it. There might be something useful there. I hope I will find this person soon because I'm getting tired.
