chapter 7:

The blinding white beams of the tactical spotlights flooded the dark interior of the warehouse, turning the gloomy harbor room as bright as midday. The sudden glare forced Marcus and his guards to raise their hands, shielding their eyes from the intense light. Outside, the air shook with the deafening roar of heavy diesel engines and the high-pitched wail of multiple police sirens closing in from every direction. What is happening, Marcus shouted over the noise, his face turning pale as he looked toward the open entrance. Who called the authorities. Elena spun around, her calm composure cracking instantly. Panic flickered across her face as she rushed toward Marcus side. She grabbed his arm, her voice rising in sharp disbelief. We secured the perimeter, she yelled, her eyes wide with shock. Nobody knew we were bringing him here. This area was supposed to be completely clean. Victor stood calmly against the tight steel cables held by the guards. Despite being bound, a cool, confident smile spread across his face. He watched the absolute chaos unfold before him, feeling the absolute satisfaction of watching their carefully laid trap fall apart in seconds. You forgot one simple rule in this game, Victor said, his voice cutting clearly through the rising noise. A predator never hunts alone when he knows he is walking into a den of wolves. Before Marcus could scream an order to his men, a heavy armored tactical vehicle smashed right through the rusted corrugated metal wall on the side of the warehouse, showering the concrete floor with a cloud of gray dust and twisted iron. The heavy vehicle came to a skidding halt, its tires throwing up sparks against the ground. The side doors flew open instantly. Half a dozen heavily armed federal agents wearing black tactical gear and protective helmets poured out into the room, their assault rifles raised and locked directly onto Marcus and his stunned guards. Drop your weapons right now, the lead agent roared, his voice echoing off the high metal roof like thunder. Do it now or face immediate neutralization. The two guards holding Victor cables panicked. They let go of the thick metal wires and reached for the pistols tucked inside their waistbands. It was the worst mistake they could make. Before their fingers could even touch the grips of their guns, a volley of non-lethal flash-bang grenades and taser rounds lit up the air. A blinding flash of white light filled the warehouse accompanied by a deafening bang that shook the concrete floor. The guards collapsed instantly, their bodies convulsing slightly before falling flat onto the floor. Marcus tried to reach for the hidden weapon inside his gray trench coat, but a federal agent lunged forward with lightning speed, kicking the gun out of his hand and slamming him face-first onto the hood of a nearby shipping crate. Metal handcuffs clicked tightly around Marcus wrists with a sharp, definitive snap. Elena stood frozen in the center of the chaos. Her expensive white silk coat was covered in gray dust from the broken wall. The proud, triumphant look she wore just moments ago was completely gone, replaced by a deep, terrifying realization that her empire of lies was crumbling into dust. She slowly turned her head, looking directly at Victor as he flexed his shoulders, breaking free from the loose cable ties the stunned guards had left behind. He stepped forward, his leather shoes clicking rhythmically against the concrete floor as he closed the distance between them. Elena opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. Her lips trembled as she stared into the cold, unforgiving eyes of the man she had betrayed. Victor stopped just inches away from her. He looked down at her face, seeing the exact same fear and helplessness he had felt five years ago when they stole everything from his family. You said business is never personal, Elena, Victor whispered softly, his voice cold enough to freeze boiling water. But for me, this has always been personal. Two female federal officers stepped up beside Elena, their hands resting firmly on the cuffs hanging from their belts. Elena Vance, the lead officer announced clearly, her voice echoing through the silent warehouse. You are under arrest for corporate conspiracy, money laundering, and obstruction of justice. You have the right to remain silent. Elena did not fight them. Her knees buckled slightly as the officers grabbed her arms, pulling her hands behind her back and locking the cold metal cuffs around her wrists. She cast one final, desperate look at Victor as they dragged her toward the broken wall where the flashing red and blue lights painted the rainy night sky. Victor watched her disappear into the back of the federal transport vehicle. The first major milestone of his revenge was complete. But as he turned his gaze toward the dark harbor horizon, he knew the real war had only just begun. Arthur Vance was still out there in the city, waiting, and he would soon find out that his empire was about to burn to the ground.
