4 Prepare for summoning

1493 Words
The Book Of Dimensions.   As soon as Peter read the name of the book, he immediately knew some information about it as if he was born with this. The book that sure held a lot of secrets that even its existence was secrecy itself.   Book Of Dimensions was written in Orrinatta, a cryptic language from a remote and old civilization. A language beyond all the languages ever discovered and beyond any recorded language in history.   Just as how the book was named, it kept records of knowledge of summoning creatures from different worlds and dimensions across the universe and even all universes that could possibly exist.   Possessing the book could be in three ways; one could inherit the book from a relative who previously owned it; one could officially possess it through training and test solely as a summoner, and one could get it through accidental discovery.   Like the latter, the Book Of Dimensions was safe from any normal individual.   Because only selected beings would be able to read the contents of the book. People either born or developed with these skills and power are called summoners.   Summoners were people who could conjure any creatures from the Book Of Dimensions to the world called earth.   Peter studied the Book of Dimension. He didn’t see any author’s name or any name that could tell who was the owner of it.   He had never seen anything like it before.   He started to think that every single weird thing that he saw in the mansion was all weird. And the more they wonder and discover something, it could become weirder.   Edgar Lee and his mansion—which was now Josh’s—was the weirdest thing he had ever encounter.   Ray, who heard Peter and saw him holding an ancient-looking book, suddenly rushed to Peter’s side with interest sparking in his eyes.   He looked over Peter’s shoulder to see what it was and whispered the name of the book. Ray glanced at Peter, “What’s that book for?   Zack and Josh who was left alone to unlock the third door were surprised that Ray suddenly left. They went to see what the two were hovering about.   “That looked as old as hell. Where did you get that?” Zack asked.   Peter glanced at Zack. “Under the table,” he said, not telling them he heard a voice that lured him to the book. He wouldn’t mind telling them, actually. He was just sure that it would fuel their curiosity, which he didn’t want.   After all, all he wanted for them to do was to wander around the villa then leave and come back next time, not to stay and seek ancient things that could be dangerous.   “It says Book of Dimensions,” Josh said as he peered over Peter’s shoulder.   “Flip to the next page,” Zack said. More like, ordered. Peter gave him a look but Zack was dead malice.   Peter cleared his throat and flipped the title page to the first page, which had few words written there.   It said, To summon otherworldly creatures.   They immediately read the contents of the book and understood how it would work:   Creatures from other worlds could be summoned in a summoning circle, which was an intangible force where the summoning could only be possible. It could only be formed in one way; channeling one’s spiritual power and focus it to form one of any types of summoning circles.   Although it would be easy, using one’s own spiritual power could drain the energy. At times, it would need two or more people to form a single summoning circle.   After forming the needed summoning circle, that was when the book would fit to the scene. The Book of Dimensions held records of mantras to summon a creature from another world. Fairies, monsters. As long as it was written in the book.   If there was no mantra for summoning a creature, the summoner may stick to create its own mantra.   However, a summoner could only create and recite his own mantra if he knew how to read and speak the language of the book called Orrinatta, which was also a universal language for most of the creatures.   Normal people wouldn’t even be able to speak, nonetheless, so that condition was only applicable to those who could read the language but not speak it.   Peter realized something. He looked at Ray, Zack, and Josh’s individual faces and they seemed to naturally read the book.   While he was wondering how they understood such complex and an unknown language, Ray closed the book with a thump.   Ray suggested something Peter knew was a bad idea. “Let’s summon something.”   Eyes are all on Ray. Josh and Zack had an anticipating smile on their lips, it was only Peter who didn’t like the idea.   “How are you even sure this book is legit?” Peter snatched the book from Ray.   “Because it wouldn’t exist if it’s not legit?” Ray asked back   “This book exists doesn’t mean it could be true. It must’ve been used for prop purposes. And why am I the only one freaking out that we could read what’s written on this book?” he flicked the book with his finger to make a point.   “You’re freaking out because you always freak out on random things,” Zack said “Anyway, that doesn’t matter. We’re humans. We could be powerful enough to understand any language. If you’re going to be like this, why did you even walk down here with us?”   Peter was in disbelief. He understood they were just affected by the rush and excitement, but if the book was actually legit, there’s a high chance they’d summon something dangerous.   “I followed here because I know you’ll get into trouble without me! Did you just forget the weight of danger in the note Edgar Lee left? He warned about not opening the cellar at all costs!” Peter yelled.   Peter didn’t want to take risks because he knew taking risks mostly brought people to danger.   Ray sighed. “You need to chill first. Let’s just check it how this would work hands-on. Besides, we’ll make sure we won’t summon the dangerous ones. We’ve read all about them earlier.” He smiled. “Besides, we never know, maybe, just maybe, we’d summon something that will benefit us later.”   “You guys are making a terrible mistake. You wouldn’t know what you’ll call from this book,” Peter continued to argue.   Zack decided to snatch the book from him. “You can’t keep this to your own. Although you found it, everything in this villa is Josh’s. Also, don’t worry, there’s no way it will get out of hand.” He looked at Josh and without thinking, Josh just nodded in agreement.   “I actually have an idea,” Zack started. “No one could protect us if we summon together. Why don’t each of us summon one and the others will wait and ready if there’s a possible danger?”   Ray nodded. “I agree. Let’s do that.” He then looked at Peter to think for a second. “Why don’t you just summon too? Stop being so paranoid and join us along. You’re down here with us, anyway,” he said and shrugged.   Peter was silent.   After a few more minutes of persuasion, pressure, and argument, Peter agreed to the plan although it grazed his ego.   He eyed the room of weapons. There are a few things there that they could use to defend themselves. At least, that was a little assurance.   “I’ll do it first,” Ray insisted and took the book from Zack. After thinking for a while, he finally found something he wanted to summon. “I’ll go with the skeleton warrior.”   Skeleton warrior, just like how it was named, was basically a skillful skeleton bone with a weapon. Every skeleton warrior had its own life story, and most of them had their memories intact with their spirit.   One could obtain a skeleton warrior’s power after killing it and abstracting its spirit fire. Spirit fire was were its power and life came from, also something that fuels the spirit of that skeleton warrior.   Before Ray decided to summon, they took each of the weapons that they could use in case the problem would arise. Without a choice, they chose a long sword because they thought it was the easiest and the most agile to use.   “Do you even know how to use the sword?” Peter asked either all of them. He was unsure himself, but he trusted his gut and adrenaline could help him later.   “I knew from video games,” Ray was boastful.   “I guess we’ll figure it out somehow,” Zack said, not even scared of it.   “I guess we’ll just die.” Peter corrected, feeling anxious. He was holding onto his sword. He already had a plan, if he failed using the sword, he’d just run away.   Before entering the circle, Ray prepared another weapon for the skeleton warrior. Compared to the ones they took, the sword was double-edged.   It was some kind of offering because skeleton warrior wouldn’t be a warrior without any weapon it could wield.   And everything was ready. Ray needed a summoning circle, which he then decided he’d get a basic gram circle. Basic gram circle, one of the summoning circle, was mostly used by summoners as it was a for-starter summoning circle.   “I can’t believe we’re actually doing this damn summoning thing,” Peter said.
