43 Great Danger

Now that he thought about it, the maze wasn’t that hard although he didn’t get to finish the whole maze. From the dream of the maze, the surrounding changed.   The first thing that Peter saw was something blue and divided by something white above. Then there was a loud honk. He looked to what he was holding and it was round and painted in white. A railing, and he was looking at the sea and cloudy sky.   He turned and saw other people there, looking on the railings as well. He was on the deck of the ship but he couldn’t find the woman nearby.   “Where the hell is she?” he asked himself, a little frustrated. He started walking away from the railings and walked around the deck, passing through other people having their conversations. No matter how near he was with those people, he couldn’t seem to understand what they were saying.   It made sense. Dreams, most of the time, had no context. Unless the one who dreamed was someone like Peter. It was not important to Peter, anyway, so he proceeded with searching her.   The ship blew another honk, and coincidentally, Peter reached the back deck. The woman was there by the railing, Half of her body was dangling as she was looking at the sea.   “Woah, Woah!” Peter exclaimed and held her by her shirt, pulling her back. “What are you doing?” he asked and saw that the woman was wearing a Hawaiian shirt and white pants. He didn’t know why he even paid attention to it. “Why are you here?” he asked.   “The sea is calling me,” she said, so serious that it made Peter freeze for a short while.   He shook his head and held her by the wrist. “No, you could accidentally—“ Peter wasn’t able to finish what he was about to say when he realized the dream was just starting to change again.   Peter’s grip relaxed when the woman started disappearing again.   When he blinked his eyes, he was facing another person, wearing overalls and goggles, with a seat belt fastened around the person and had a backpack strap slung on the person’s shoulder,   He looked down and saw him wearing the same. He craned his neck and saw that there was a backpack behind him. He wondered what kind of dream he was in now.   Looking to his left, he found her sitting beside him. Her face was shown, and she was also wearing goggles.   “Now, everyone,” someone says from his right. He turned to see someone wearing the same thing as them but didn’t have anything on his face. “We’ll jump off anytime soon, but before that, I have some things to say,” he started.   Peter didn’t even know what was going on, but seeing the woman thrilled and excited, he could tell that it was something she wanted.   The guide clapped his hand. “Okay, you probably knew sky diving is just something about jumping and landing safely. But it’s more than that,” he said, raising his voice a little to be heard over the loud engine of the plane   Peter looked at the woman and saw her intently listening. “So it is sky diving,” he said to her but she ignored him. He already knew why she dreamed about sky diving. Aside from her desire to do sky diving, seeing an article or video or post on the internet about sky diving could be a reason, too.   He just sighed. Well, he didn’t have any choice. The growl of the squid monster outside her dream, on the dream space, could be distant, but Peter still found it unsafe.   “Since you all are experienced, you could skydive alone. But I’ll remind you of the things you have to do while paragliding,” the guide said. “One, make sure to retain your goggles while sky diving. We don’t want anything to enter our eyes, do we? Also, if we leave our eyes uncovered while sky diving, or else your tears will fly all over to the skydivers above you.”   Everyone laughed, but Peter didn’t. He was watching the woman beside him. He couldn’t let her die on his watch. Especially when he could die, too.   “Just pull the parachute, and prepare for your safe landing. Make sure to not make it too late, or else you could be injured,” the guide said and looked at Peter. “You, and you, you may go first.”   Peter looked at the woman beside him and sighed in relief. Going together wasn’t bad, since he would be close to watch her. He stood up and waited for her. “You go first,” he said to her. He had the plan to make her jump a few seconds before him because watching her from below was easier than looking back up at her.   She just nodded and without hesitation, she jumped. He counted two seconds and jumped after, hearing her scream, not a few meters below. He didn’t even know if sky diving would allow you to jump that close to another person.   She was screaming, but it was because of thrill. She was either blurting random expressions or just staying quiet.   Peter didn’t find it bad, nonetheless. The view bellow was near to what he would probably see on real sky diving. He passed through clouds, and he could see the green wide grassy field below, and he figured that was where they could land.   Peter waited for her to pull the parachute, but he didn’t see the parachute come out of her backpack. Just then he heard a panic screaming. “Help! Help me! My parachute’s not working!” she cried out.   Just as he expected. He sighed and moved his body to descend quickly close to her, and when he was beside her, she looked at him. “Help me!”   He extended his hand toward her and she quickly grasped for his hand. He then pulled her close to him and she immediately hugged him in fear. He let her do it and sighed. “Hang on tight,” he reminded her and pulled the strap to trigger the parachute to come out of his backpack.   Fortunately, unlike her backpack, his parachute seemed to work just fine. “Hang on tight,” he reminded her again and held on the controls of the parachute.   She was silently holding onto him while he slowly and carefully brought them close to the grassy ground. She was slowly slipping off from him so he said. “Hang on, we’re getting near. With few pulls on the controller, they were few feet from the ground.   Few seconds passed and they were now standing on the ground.   The woman sighed. “Thank you so much,” she said after she let go of him, removing everything that was hanging on her shoulder.   He removed the parachute backpack from his shoulders and dusted himself, although it didn’t matter. He then noticed a change in the surroundings again. “Again?” he asked, a little frustrated.   He swore it would be the last time he would stay in her dream.   When he blinked, he was now on an empty street. He had never been into such a place but the signages were written with a foreign language, He roamed around the street and there wasn’t anyone around. “Where is she?” he asked.   He saw a blue pickup truck nearby and tried to open it. It wasn’t locked so he used it to roam around the city. Suddenly, people appeared on every street and Peter even nearly hit a kid. Although it wouldn’t hurt the kid, he’d be haunted by hitting those innocent young ones.   He was thankful that the street wasn’t that filled with vehicles, or else it would take him much time to get to her. Also, no police around nor traffic enforcers. He’d be in jail for speed driving and beating the red lights.   Peter abruptly stepped on the gas when he heard an explosion from a distance. He wasn’t sure where it came from, but he was glad it was far from him. “What is she up to?” he asked, a little mad.   Then, there was another explosion nearby. People started panicking, as well as Peter. He opened his window to look up and saw a plane passed by above him. His eyes widened when he saw something falling from above.   He quickly stepped on the gas pedal and drove away from where he was. Luckily, he was on time. He looked through the side mirror and saw the explosion.   “That woman, really,” he said in annoyance. “Does she want to kill me? Kill both of us?”   He looked for her in some places, but with the random explosion and a lot of places to find her from, he was running out of time.   If he was to die, he would rather just face the squid monster outside her dream.   While thinking about leaving her dream, he saw a tall building from afar. On top of the building was what looked like a red beam, pointing out to the sky.   He was surprised when he heard a plane over him, so he drove fast to reach the tall building. He took a turn to the left, proceeded forward, and dashed to another left.   “Oh, s**t!” he cursed when the first thing he saw was an explosion just in front of him. He closed his eyes and hoped for a miracle to happen.
