69 Peter’s Resort To Magic

1511 Words
The shadow monster’s true form was scarier than how it looked earlier. The hood that was over them didn’t look like they were made in fabric, it looked more like the hood was one with the shadow monsters. It seemed like it was made out of shadow, and although it was dark with just their torchlight in use, Peter couldn’t see through the shadow monsters. As if the hoods made them look like a solid creature.   “I don’t know what those things can do but they looked more powerful than those from earlier,” Zack said flashing his torchlight everywhere in front of him. They seemed to still react to the light, but they wouldn’t budge that much.   Peter nodded. “So everyone, be careful,” he reminded and gulped. The backpack was still secured behind him, and it was strapped was tied to his waist so if anything happened, the book inside the backpack would still be fastened on his waist. “You can fight the people who are possessed by the shadow monsters but make sure you don’t kill them. For the shadow monsters, don’t get near them,” Peter instructed.   He wasn’t sure if his instruction would make sense since he wasn’t sure what was best for them to do. Since they didn’t have any plan and no one else was pitching in ideas, he decided to give the simplest survival rule; to defend themselves.   The shadow monsters stayed behind, while those possessed people were the ones to attack the front. Peter was thankful that not everyone will attack. If the shadow monsters suddenly attacked, they didn’t have anything else but torchlight, they could either die or just be possessed by shadow monsters forever.   Peter thought of another plan. “Zack and Ray, remember when we’re at Josh’s villa?”   “What? Why the sudden mention of the villa?” Ray asked.   “Okay, let me change that. Who among you are capable of combat?” he asked but Zack and Ray only answered. He scoffed. “I should’ve just asked the two of you,” he said in dismay. “Come to the front,” he told the two and walked cautiously with Peter. “Everybody, stay close. Don’t put any gap between you and watch our backs,” he requested and they complied.   “I understand why you killed David,“ Zack whispered. “If I were you, I should’ve done the same.”   “We’re not killing them, are we?” Ray worriedly asked.   Peter shook his head. “Nope. But it would be better if you knock them out of their consciousness,” he said. “It’s better when they’re knock out, the shadow monsters in their body will find it hard to control the body since they might need more energy to do so.”   “Okay, let’s do this,” Zack excitedly said.   Everyone else watched as the three walked their way close to the possessed people of the town, meeting them halfway. Peter had clenched his fists in the level of his chest while his left hand held the torchlight pointed in front of him. When the light from his torchlight touched the skin of one of the possessed, it hissed in pain but continued to approach the three.   They approached slowly until Zack decided to run at them and started punching every possessed one that was near him. Ray and Peter who was hyped by Zack’s determination, they also decided to attack.   Peter dodged the attack of a possessed buff man as it attempted to punch him. He punched the buff man in the stomach that sent the possessed man to the floor. While the buff man was slowly getting up, he didn’t waste time and attacked another one who was on his right. It was a lady.   He hesitated to hit it because he felt bad, but when it started approaching him in a wild manner, he panicked and to his surprise, he punched her in the face and knocked the lady down to the floor of the lobby. “Sorry,” he apologized sincerely and was surprised when someone touched him.   He looked at his shoulder and it was the buff man. The next thing he knew, he was lifted and thrown to the floor.   “Peter!” Ray screamed and punched a man and knocked him down. “Zack, cover!” he screamed and ran to Peter who was in great pain.   “Okay!” Zack said and intensified his fighting with the possessed. Ray didn’t go and help Peter, instead, he fought the buff man. He was tough. Ray found it hard to fight the buff man but he managed to lead it far away from Peter, who was still on the floor and wincing at the great pain on his back.   He slowly sat up and groaned. He regulated his breathing for a few seconds before he stood up. Ray glanced back at him, still fighting the buff man. “Are you okay?” he asked.   Peter nodded and stood up, slowly stretching his back. He didn’t have time to slack off. So when he quickly recovered, he continued.   Ray found it hard to fight the buff man, but peter let him handle it. He quickly fought those who were slowly getting towards the other attendees behind him. At a second, he glanced at Josh’s body and he was relieved that the casket was still safe where it was.   The lobby was filled with groans, grunts, screams, and sounds of the hit made by the three. The fighting lasted for few more minutes, fifteen at best, until finally, all of the possessed were lying on the floor, unconscious.   The three panted and pointed their torchlight at the shadow monsters behind. They were just there, staying still as if waiting for something. Peter squinted his eyes at them with suspicion. It just didn’t feel right to him and it scared him. “Everyone, are you okay? Is someone hurt or something?” Peter asked in between his heavy breathing without looking behind.   Everybody stated that they were okay, which was a relief to Peter as well. “Damn, look at those eyes,” Peter said. The flaring red eyes of the shadow monsters were creepy that he shivered a little. “I don’t know what they’re planning,” he said. That moment, he thought he should think of another plan.   “What do we do now?” Ray asked as he thought of plan as well although he knew it wouldn’t be as better as Peter’s plan. Zack and Ray trusted Peter’s plan more than theirs. Although sometimes, he might sound absurd to them, after all the things they faced, they realized how logical and rational some of Peter’s plans were. “I can’t think of anything,” he said and decided to just watch the shadow monsters if they decided to attack.   Suddenly, a thought ran past his mind. He had been studying magic for a while, even in his dreams. He wasn’t sure if his plan would work since he never actually tried them in real life, but he still had his fingers crossed.   “I’m going to try something, so I want you guys to watch the shadow monsters,” Peter said.   “What is it? Let us do it, too,” Zack said, confused that Peter sounded like he wanted to do it alone.   He turned to Zack. “I don’t think you guys can do it,” Peter said. He wanted to say to them that they don’t know anything about it but he thought that would sound like he was bragging or something. “I’ll show it to you guys and tell me if you can do it, too,” he smiled a little. The two nodded.   Peter couldn’t look at the shadow monsters because it scared the heck out of him and it made me feel extreme fear. He didn’t have a choice but to resort to magic. He learned it once before, it was called the nightmare spell. It wouldn’t produce a nightmare. In contrast, it would repel nightmares. Since the shadow monsters were almost the same as those on nightmares, he hoped it would work for them as well.   He looked at his two friends who were carefully watching him while frequently glancing at the shadow monsters. He sighed and closed his eyes and opened both of his palms, letting only two fingers to hold onto the torchlight in his other hand.   Circle of magic, I cast upon you In my hands, Lend me the power. This is the nightmare spell, Let me use it against creatures of darkness.   He chanted in Orrinatta language, which the two understood.   A force of air enveloped him only, which made his hair move through it. The air disappeared and a bluish ring appeared over each of his palms. They emitted a bright light, but he figured it wasn’t strong since the shadow monsters didn’t budge.   Right then, The shadow monsters’ flaring red eyes disappeared. Everybody was alert, especially Peter. He wasn’t sure what could happen, so he waited before he would make a move. It was also his strategy so he could predict the shadow monsters’ pattern of attacks.   The two were surprised to see Peter but they didn’t say anything. They both thought it wasn’t the time to ask him questions since the shadow monsters were acting all suspicious.   Suddenly, their flaring red eyes appeared again. But it surprised everyone because they were many and they were surrounding everyone.   Peter gulped to see how many shadow monsters had gathered.
