31 Back In The Hands Of Peter

1516 Words
As the obsidian spear stabbed through the sphinx’s legs, Josh opened the door to the back seat.   “Come on!” he yelled.   Peter stood up and hurried to enter the car, then closed the door. The sphinx was still screaming in pain.   Ray didn’t wait for the sphinx to get his chance for revenge, so he drove the car backward, while Zack opened the front seat and threw still half-remaining gas can. The gas can land near the sphinx before it slid close to the sphinx’s feet.   He quickly took his shotgun which was beside him.   Peter watched busy Ray stepping on the gas as the car continued to roll backward and Zack was still aiming for the gas can. Finally, Zack fired the shotgun which made an explosion that reached the roof of the indoor pavilion.   The sphinx screamed more in pain as he was now covered with patches of lit gas from the gas can. “Mortals! I won’t let you all go!” the sphinx continued to scream, panicking as to where he should go.   Lastly, when they were out of the indoor pavilion, Zack took the chance to fire the gun at some part of the grassy field surrounding the pavilion where they poured gas around.   When Ray swerved to have the back of the car facing the pavilion, Peter’s eyes followed behind and watched the fire surround the pavilion—which was made out of woods aka fire-prone material—starting from where Zack took the shot.   The scream of the sphinx could still be heard, and the pavilion was starting to crumble.   Zack screamed in excitement and closed the window.   Peter looked at Josh who was beside him and to the two. “Holy crap! How did you guys think of that? I didn’t even see any of you pour gas around the pavilion,” Peter said, completely hyped up. “You guys took the perfect time to save me!”   “It’s called Ray’s way,” Ray said, looking through the rearview mirror with a smirk.   Zack laughed, placing the shotgun on his right side before turning to Peter. “More like, Zack’s plan,” he said. Peter laughed and looked behind, seeing the pavilion and mansion on fire.   “Okay, I put the credits on you. I admit your shots were great, especially the one with the gas can,” Ray said, following the trail path down to the foot of the mountain.   “But, wouldn’t the fire on the villa cause forest fire?” Peter asked.   Zack chuckled. “I don’t think so. The forest is far from the villa. Besides, there’s a forecast said it will rain later at sunrise,” he said.   Peter looked outside the window and saw that the sun was just starting to rise. The cloud was starting to form up into clusters of gray, indicating that the forecast was correct.   He looked at Josh who was silent. When Josh looked at him, he smiled and offered him their handshake. “What’s up?” Peter asked.   Josh chuckled. “Been fine. I didn’t know what happened,” he said. “And that freaking thing is massive,” he exclaimed.   Peter nodded. “I know. You probably saw how he tried to devour me. I mean, his mouth opened so big it revealed a lot of teeth.”   “Holy, that’s creepy as f**k,” Zack said.   “I’m sorry it would’ve been hard for you three,” Josh said. “You would’ve just left me there if saving me almost killed you all,”   Ray chuckled. “We almost. But we couldn’t,” he said and glanced at Zack.   “I suggested to leave you there,” Zack confessed. “But you understand, right? I was scared.”   Josh only nodded. “Yeah. Thanks, guys.”   “Nah, never mind. We just killed Medusa, killed the filthy worms kinda creature from Kramer, dealt with the demigod who wanted to take each of our forty years from our remaining life, and recently, Peter was just nearly devoured by the sphinx,” Zack said and laughed. “I’m not guilty-tripping you or something, I just think that you should know.”   “What the heck. I won’t summon a mermaid anymore,” Josh said, feeling guilty. “Thanks for not leaving me behind, guys. I owe my life on you three.”   “Peter did a great job at summoning. He had been the mind of this whole summoning frenzy. You wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Peter,” Ray said and Zack only nodded in agreement.   Finally, they reached the foot of the mountain where the motel was. After their tiring adventures, they decided to check in to the motel to get some rest.   After they parked the car, they entered the motel and paid for a big room they agreed to share.   When they entered the room they rented, they were welcomed with two long couches and a king-sized bed.   At that moment, the rain started to pour down, killing the fire on the villa. The sphinx, however, was nowhere to be found. Whether he went back to his world or roaming on earth, he only knew.   “This is not bad,” Ray said and looked at Peter and the others. “Do you guys wanna rent another one?”   Zack chuckled. “Aha, our rich friend. Is this room not enough for you? Or are you just flexing your unlimited card?” he teased.   Ray only laughed. “I’m not flexing anything. I’m asking because the four of us wouldn’t fit the bed.”   Sighing, Peter lied down on the couch. “We’re not doing foursome, Ray. Two of us can take the couch.”   Josh grimaced at the idea of what Peter said. “Dude, we’re not here to do that thing. We’re here to relax.”   Zack lied on the bed seductively. “Or...you guys wanna try it?” he joked, which earned gagging from the three.   “Anyway, what do we do with your car?” Peter asked Ray.   He only laughed. “I’ll tell dad I lost control for some reason,” he said and sat on the other couch. “I don’t think he would be mad. He will only say, ‘Learn from your mistake and be responsible” like he always does.”   Zack shook his head. “That old man is a good father.”   “You think so?” Ray asked. “All I can say is he just doesn’t care.”   “No, I think he’s good to let you make decisions. I mean, if he’ll cover up the things you’re responsible for, it just means he’s tolerating you.”   Ray gave it some thought and nodded in agreement. “Well, now that you said that, I had a different view about him,”   Peter stifled a laugh. “What, did you just feel sulky he doesn’t help you with your responsibility?”   Ray only laughed. “No, of course not.” He cleared his throat. “It wouldn’t be bad to summon again, would it? We just have to think wise which to summon,” Ray said. “There are a lot of creatures that could just be a benefit than danger.”   “What, are you planning to summon, after what happened?” Peter asked.   Shifting his weight to the couch, Ray nodded. “Why not?”   Peter was the first to decline. “No way. I don’t want to summon again. After what happened to us?” he asked, “If you guys run into danger again because of summoning, I won’t help nor save you again.”   “Why not?” Zack said. “After that experience, we can just be careful of summoning, and success rate can be high.”   “I won’t. You will never make me summon again,” Peter said.   Ray looked at Josh. “Well, technically speaking, Josh now owns the book. He has the right to let us use the book or not.”   Everyone looked at Josh, who was holding the book. He sighed. “I’ll think about it. But for now, we should just take some rest first.”   “I mean, no pressure, Josh. But if you guys choose to summon again, I won’t come with you. I won’t gamble my life again for summoning. Knowing it could lead us to danger.”   After playing rock, paper, scissors, Ray and Peter were on the two couch while Josh and Zack luckily took the bed. They took their time to rest and go back to the dorm to attend school. They didn’t want to skip another day off school, not now that they were about to graduate real soon.   Early in the morning, they were awoken by Josh. It was time for them to drive back to their dorms and he also said he had something to discuss and decide about.   Of course, the three had felt it was about the book. They were fine at whatever his decision was since it was now his possession after his late uncle.   While preparing to leave, Josh started to talk about the book. He thought it had to be decided who’d handle the book now that the villa was burned to ashes.   “I’ve thought about this overnight and based on what you guys told me about what happened. Even from the start, I think we all know who should handle the book,” Josh said and looked at Peter. The two looked at Peter and couldn’t agree more.   He added, “Although we all did the best to resolve every problem that arose, we all know that Peter could hold it well. He’s worthy and reliable, don’t you think?”   The two didn’t speak.   “It’s ours to decide whether or not you should summon, but it would be better if Peter would be the one to keep the book,” Josh said.   Without any disagreement, the Book of Dimensions was back in the hands of Peter, because they knew out of all people, he’s the only reliable one.
