10 Win the game against Dream Goblin

As darkness embraced Peter’s vision, a faint white light faded into her sight. Along with distant voices that seemed to call out to him.   Just that, Peter heard voices calling out to his name.   “Peter!”   “Peter!”   “Peter!”   He opened his eyes and three blurred faces registered to his vision until it became crisp and shapes of their faces finally came to his sight. Ray, Zack, and Josh were hovering over him.   Peter groaned. “What happened?” he mumbled, which was gibberish to the three.   “What?” Josh asked and slightly patted his face.   Peter cleared his throat. “What happened?” he asked and looked around.   Suddenly, memories of moments with the dream goblin flashed into his mind. It was a dream. He couldn’t believe it was actually a dream. He was shocked, at the same time, relieved that it was just a dream.   He looked at his hands and could clearly see it. He confirmed he was awake. And it was a good thing because he remembered that if he woke up, it meant that he won.   Peter was proud of himself. He didn’t even think he’d make it.   He held onto his slightly aching head. “Ouch. My head hurts,” he complained and stood up.   Ray who helped him stood up asked, “What happened? You just read the same mantra Zack used to call the goblin. The portal appeared and you passed out.”   Peter looked around to find if the portal was still there or the dream goblin chose to show up.   Zack interrupted. “The portal was gone when you started to wake up.”   Peter was certain that he was the only one the dream goblin chose as a target. Fair enough, as he would say. He was the one who summoned it.   “What happened to you, really?” Josh asked out of concern and curiosity.   Peter understood something like that was bound to happen. They didn’t exactly understand how the book worked and how much benefit and danger would it really give them. It’s just that Peter didn’t expect such could happen to him.   “I accidentally summoned a dream goblin,” Peter began.   Zack’s eyebrows creased. “Dream goblin?”   Peter nodded.   “What? I thought you summoned a green goblin?” Ray asked.   “I know. But the mantra on the book didn’t specify what kind of goblin we will summon. What was written there was the only goblin. Although green goblins are common kind of goblins, there were actually more than that,” Peter explained.   Ray nodded. “I see. So the labels per mantra weren’t actually just for one kind of creature. It’s like, a generalization of the creature. Like the goblin mantra. When the summoner used that mantra, it could summon any kind of goblin?” Ray asked.   “Right. The mantra isn’t exact. There’s a high chance that you could summon something out of your expectation. Besides, the mantra doesn’t mention the character of the creature. Whether it could be aggressive or not,” Peter explained.   “So, it was the reason why you passed out? The dream goblin?” Josh asked, a little spooked. “Doesn’t that sound scary? You just passed out without us even knowing it was a dream goblin.”   Peter couldn’t agree more. “Yes, that’s why I dreamed of...” he paused to recall it for a second, “weird things.”   “What did you dream, though?” Zack asked. “Making out with ladies or?”   Ray hit Zack’s shoulder. “You’re such a pervert.”   Zack gave him a look. “Don’t act like a hypocrite. Men sometimes dream of those dreams. Don’t act so clean.”   Ray rolled his eyes, losing to the argument.   Peter laughed. “But seriously, the dream felt so vividly real. I didn’t know I passed out, and I think that’s when I started to dream,” he paused to recall. “There was a sudden chasm and then a big python appeared. It fatally hurt Ray then ate Josh and Zack,” he told them, sounding like a child telling his parents about his nightmare.   “Boohoo. It must’ve been a nightmare,” Zack teased.   Peter grinned. “I didn’t think you being swallowed by a huge python was a nightmare, though?” He joked and added, “Besides, I ran away.”   Everybody laughed at Peter.   “What the heck? You’re such a good friend,” Ray gave him a disappointed look.   Peter gasped, stifling his laugh. “If you’re on my shoes, you’ll also run away seeing that gigantic python.”   “If I were you, I would s***h its head while it’s distracted,” Zack said.   “Yeah, I’ll s***h it while half of your boy is inside its mouth. You’ll end up losing your head, too.” Peter rolled his eyes. “Anyway, so after that, I ran away from the villa and fell over the mountain.”   “Why would you fall over the mountain?” Josh asked.   “It’s dark on my dream. At this time, it must be dark now,” Peter told a matter-of-factly. “So, when I fell over the mountain, I woke up in the dorm. The day repeated itself. From my the job fair to us talking before the lawyer came.”   Ray gasped. “Dude, that’s weird as heck. Imagine you’re going onto the same day and you’ll find that everything feels familiar.”   Peter high-fived Ray. “If you’re there, you’ll think you’re crazy.”   “What did you do then?” Zack asked. Did you meet the monster or something?”   Peter nodded. “I walked out of the dorm to find the dream goblin when I realized I was dreaming. Then I found this dorm that led to the villa. Somehow, I ended up provoking the dream goblin to show itself. Then the goblin asked me to play a game.”   Peter ended the story. “I agreed to play the game and thinking that I could easily wake myself up by killing myself, cut my wrist, and jumped off from the roof of the villa.”   “That’s straight-up the plot for a fantasy movie,” Ray.   “What if you failed the game?” Josh asked.   “The dream goblin said I could die and be a slave on the dream,” Peter shrugged. Now that he thought of it, he was scared of the thought of dying on his dream.   He didn’t know if it was sheer luck or he just made the right analysis. If he actually took the obstacle challenge, would he successfully escape it? Or would he had been dead by now if he took it.   Thinking of his death and being a slave to the dream made him shiver a little.   “That sounds so scary. If it were me, I would’ve died,” Josh said, frightened about the thought of being a slave in the dream.   “I think you could overcome it somehow. When you’re at a situation like that, your survival instinct would kick like heck,” Ray said.     “I think I’m going to pass on summoning today. Can I summon tomorrow?” Josh’s comment made the three laugh in unison.   “It’s actually a good idea. It’s almost eight,” Ray said.   As they decided, they closed the portal, cleaned a little in the basement, and left the villa to go back to their dormitory. They still had school the next morning, so they needed to go back to the dorm.   Peter and Josh silently took their rest after the most eventful day of their lives. Yet.   Before Peter slept, Peter thought a lot of things.   He wondered who wrote the book. If it took just one person to write it or it was a group or persons. Whoever they were and no matter how many of them were, Peter thought they must be some powerful persons.   Although failure to conjure a creature was high and the summoner won’t really know the temperament of the creature, it still was crazy for Peter to think that the mantra on the book actually worked.   He was a little scared to sleep. He thought the dream goblin would take revenge on his sleep because the dream goblin didn’t get what it wanted.   He hoped he would still wake up the next day.   Long after his train of thought, he finally drifted to sleep.   Right when he fell asleep, he was walking in deep darkness.   He tried to call out, “Hello? Anybody here?” and continued to walk in the darkness.   He got nothing but his own echo as a reply.   Suddenly, there was a path of large rocks. He decided to follow where it would lead him, and a wide grassland was before him.   He heard a shuffling footstep behind him so he turned around, only to see it was Wiboe, the dream goblin.   “Greetings,” the dream goblin said. Next thing he knew he was dragged somewhere. He was dragged super fast that was he saw was different colors of light.   It was like he was looking outside the train but a little faster like the jet plane.   Peter couldn’t make out of his limited sight.   Next thing he knew when he blinked his eyes, he was in front of the same grassland from the last time he went to before.   He looked around and found absolutely nothing.   He’d actually panic if he saw the obstacles again. He was just thankful that there wasn’t anything but plentiful of grass.   Peter gasped in horror when he turned and the goblin was looking at him. “It’s you again. Why did you bring me here?” He asked, his voice a little raising.   “I’m here to deliver you your award,” the dream goblin said.
