Deputy Sheriff Lisa Kramer sat in the front seat of her patrol car. She’d parked in the lot of the local high school, under the shade of a large tree. It was over a hundred degrees outside, and even with the air conditioning blowing full force, it was still hot under the noontime sun. There were no other vehicles in the lot today because it was a Saturday. Lisa held a tuna wrap in one hand and her pocket comp in the other. She watched an advertisement for a resort in Bermuda. Tomorrow at this time, she’d be flying to that resort with her husband for their honeymoon.
