CHAPTER TWO

1465 Words
Why the f**k was I meeting with Ebastian Ryder Sinclair? I was supposed to be meeting with… “My personal Assistant had something to attend to and I really needed this. My father just died which I'm guessing you know already”. He was really looking at my face, waiting for a reply. “I'll pay you well. How much do you want?” I was still trying to get over the breakup and also get over the fact that Ryder Sinclair was in front of me right now, asking how much I would charge for my services. “Get yourself together, Isa. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get laid by your dead boss's hot son”, I told myself. “S-sure”, I straightened up in my chair and was now in business mode. “What would you like to drink? We'll discuss the fee later”. *** “I have something big to ask of you”, Ryder was saying. It was the next morning and we were in a hotel room. I was up and ready to leave as he had already paid me. “What could a billionaire want from a poor receptionist like me?” “Listen, I'm willing to pay you any amount if you can do this for me. Just name your price”. “What are you talking about?” I was so confused at this point. “Be my wife”. My eyebrows shot up immediately as my mouth hung open. “Huh?” “I want you to marry me. I'm serious about this…um…I– Imelda”. “It's Isabel”. “Right, Isabel. Just name your price”. “T–that's impossible. I work in your father's hotel”. This was starting to look like a prank and I used my eyes to immediately scan the room for any hidden cameras but I couldn't find any. Yes, I wanted this man. I wanted to have s*x with him and be wrapped in his arms, I had a strong desire for him from the moment I saw his picture on the TV and my desire burned deeper when I met him and had s*x with him. But not this. I didn't want to get married to him. This seemed far-fetched. “This must be a joke”, I said as I snatched my purse from the dresser and walked out of the room, bumping into a blonde woman on my way out of the building. “Watch where you're going”, She fired at me. “I'm so sorry”, I said, increasing my pace as my face became hot with embarrassment. Just then, my phone beeped and I rolled my eyes before answering the call from my mom's doctor. “Miss Smith?” “Yes, doctor. Is there a problem?” “I'm afraid your mother's lung has collapsed and she'll need surgery as soon as possible. We need you to deposit some money for the surgery before we proceed”. “H-how much do you need?” “$31,900”. “Jesus”, I gasped. “I'll get back to you doctor”. There was only one way to raise over 30 grand under 24 hours. I turned around and went back to the room, where Ryder was seated on the bed, his head bent. “Seventy grand”. He lifted his head as he looked at me. “Forty”. “Sixty-five”. “Forty-five”. “Fifty”. “Deal”, he stood up from the bed and reached into his briefcase, bringing out a fat brown envelope. “Let's get married”. "...for a period of five years, with an option to renew or terminate at the end of the term. Both parties agree to share equal responsibilities and assets…” Ryder's lawyer was saying. We were in his lawyer's office which was a small office with white walls. I was really doing this, I barely even had time to think about this and my uncertainty was visible because my hands were shaking. I skimmed through the documents before I signed them even though my foggy brain barely understood anything. As we finished signing the documents, Ryder reached into his pocket and brought out a small ring, grabbing my hand roughly and pushing it into my ring finger. “For appearance's sake”, he said, his voice low and husky. My heart raced at the strange feeling of the ring on my hand which made me feel an unwanted sense of commitment and belonging. “You're legally married to me now and you're now my possession. You belong to me now. And don't misplace that ring, it was my grandmother's”, Ryder said as we stepped out of the office. “Remind me why you wanted to get married to me?” This was too good to be true. I was married to my boss? I was now Isabel Smith Sinclair? “Do you have to know? You're married to me already and I've paid you for it. Your only job now is to be my wife and perform your marital duties”, he said, handing the envelope to me. “If you need more, tell me”. “By the way, you should move into the house before evening. I'll text you the address. Here's my card, text me so I'll have your number”, he said coldly before walking to his car and driving off, leaving me on the sidewalk. What the hell was going on? What had I gotten myself into? And why did he suddenly become so mean? Because he already got what he wanted? I quickly texted him so he'll send me the address. “You've got to be freaking kidding me”, Melissa shouted when I told her that I was married to Ryder Sinclair. “H-how is that even possible. I can't believe this”. “I don't really know. He gave me this money just because I accepted to marry him” “Still does not explain why he chose to marry you of all the ladies in this city, no offence but…I smell a rat”. I rolled my eyes at her, I knew this did not make much sense. “Can't you at least be happy for me? I'm married to a billionaire and I have enough money to pay for my mom's surgery”. “Fine, I'm happy for you. I'm sad you're leaving though, I'll be so lonely”. She said, stretching her hands and wrapping me into a hug. “I'll miss you too”, I said. I packed my things and took a cab to the address Ryder sent to me. It was a very big mansion and I never dreamed of living in such a big house and the thought of living here got me really excited. I entered the house as the door was unlocked. I heard voices coming from somewhere in the house so I placed my luggage in the living area and followed the voices. The voices were coming from the kitchen as they got louder as I got closer. “What do you mean you got married to someone?” “Do you have a problem with that?” It was Ryder's voice and the voice of a woman. “Do you love her?” Her voice was breaking, like she was about to cry. “Of course I don't. I just need her for the s*x and she would make a good submissive wife, unlike you”. “I still love you, Ryder. I've missed you”. I stood at the entrance of the kitchen, watching as the woman wrapped her arms around Ryder, pulling him in for a kiss. He bent his head and placed his lips on hers, sucking her lips passionately. I had no right to feel bad that the man I just got married to for money was kissing another woman, a few hours after we tied the knot but I felt broken; the things he said. I turned around, trying to walk away silently when I mistakenly bumped into a sculpture by the door. I caught it immediately, before it could fall and break but it was too late. Ryder and the strange woman were now looking at me, their faces red and their eyes widened. I now saw the face of the woman, it was the blonde woman I bumped into outside the hotel, right before I agreed to marry Ryder.
