Alpha Maddox POV As my consciousness slowly returned, I became acutely aware of the discomfort in my neck, which was positioned at an unnatural angle. It was a familiar sensation, one that told me I had been tranquilized and dumped into a chair, likely the work of my ever-loyal Beta, Julian. "I have said it countless times that we need to teach Julian his place," my wolf, Jake, growled within the depths of my mind, his irritation palpable. I couldn't help but respond to Jake's irritation with my own fiery retort. "Well, if you stop being a stubborn son of a b***h, always vying for control of my body, maybe I would have considered that!" I snapped back, my frustration mounting. Jake's response was a wordless growl, a sign of his simmering anger. Our connection had always been a tumultuous one, a constant power struggle between wolf and Alpha. With a groan, I stretched my neck, the audible crack echoing through the room. It was a stark reminder of the rough treatment I had received. "That little son of a b***h must have thrown me on the chair angrily," I muttered aloud, irritation evident in my voice. But my momentary frustration was quickly overshadowed by the vivid memories of what had transpired a few hours ago. The pain, the screams, the shared torment with Carmiltha—all of it flooded my mind with a potent mix of emotions. "f**k, my mate was in deep pain!" The realization hit me like a physical blow, and I could feel my heart constrict with worry and guilt. Without hesitation, I raced out of my office, a surge of urgency propelling me forward. In my haste, I pushed my desk with such force that it collided with the walls, the impact likely leaving a lasting dent. It was a stark reminder of the power that surged within me, unchecked and often destructive. I reached the room where Carmiltha was being treated, my breath coming in ragged gasps. There, in the dimly lit chamber, I found her sleeping peacefully, her features softened in repose. Despite the pain and suffering she had endured, she looked like a serene angel, her vulnerability tugging at my heart. Her lashes rested gently on her rosy lips, her frail body wrapped in the pink cotton gown that had replaced her tattered outfit. Despite the pain and suffering she had endured, there was an undeniable ethereal beauty about her, an allure that tugged at my heartstrings. I couldn't tear my gaze away from her delicate features—the soft curve of her cheeks, the way her chest rose and fell with each shallow breath, the vulnerability that lay in the slumber that had claimed her. It was a sight that both stirred my protective instincts and fueled the anger that simmered beneath the surface. A few minutes passed, and the tranquility of her slumber was shattered. Carmiltha began to thrash on the bed, her movements frantic and restless. It was as though she was ensnared in the grip of a haunting nightmare, her face contorted in distress. Desperation surged within me as I watched her struggle. I couldn't bear to see her in such agony, even if it was in the realm of dreams. With a resolve born of love and an overwhelming need to comfort her, I moved to her side. Gently, I reached out and began to stroke her hair, my touch meant to offer solace and reassurance. But it seemed that the shadows of her nightmares were too potent, her distress refusing to abate. In that moment, I made a decision. I knew that the bond that tied us together, the connection between mates, was a powerful force. And one thing I had learned was that skin-to-skin contact could bring a sense of calm and security to a mate in distress. Without hesitation, I pulled off my shirt, baring my chest, and climbed onto the bed beside her. I didn't dare to remove her clothes, uncertain of how she would react upon waking. But I knew that the warmth of our bodies pressed close together, the beating of our hearts in unison, could offer her the solace she needed. Carefully, I wrapped my arms around her, drawing her into an intimate embrace. Her form fit against mine as if we were two pieces of a puzzle meant to be together. I could feel the rapid thumping of her heart against my chest, the rhythm of her breaths gradually slowing as she nestled against me. All of a sudden my wolf shattered everything with his annoying words. "Claim her! Claim her!" The relentless chant of my wolf reverberated within the confines of my mind, each repetition a maddening reminder of his unwavering desire to claim my mate. "I really hate the Moon Goddess for pairing me with an i***t like you!" I couldn't help but snap within my own thoughts, my frustration boiling over. The internal battle between my human rationality and Jake, my wolf, had reached a fevered pitch. "Our mate is weak, and the only thing you want to do is to claim her? Are you alright, sicko?" I questioned him once more, my words dripping with irritation. The absurdity of the situation was almost suffocating. But my mate, my wolf, remained steadfast, his single-minded focus on Carmiltha unyielding. "Claim mate and mark mate!" he insisted, his chants pushing me to the edge of exasperation. "Jake, she is currently having a nightmare," I tried to reason with him, to appeal to his sense of logic. "What do you think I would be if I claimed her unnecessarily? It's not the right time." Yet, it seemed that my wolf had gone deaf to my pleas. He continued to demand, to challenge, to query for control over our shared body. The internal struggle was relentless, and I knew I had to find a way to regain dominance over my own mind. I knew the only way to stop this was to shed blood or f**k hard. f*****g was definitely out of it, so shedding blood is my only option to keep my mind straight. A dark laugh escaped my lips as I contemplated the retribution that awaited those who had harmed Carmiltha. "Well, maybe Alpha Dean would have to pick out one of his children I would be slaying," I mused aloud, my voice tinged with a chilling resolve. The thought of vengeance fueled my determination.
