I said, “You could help me with them, you know?” Chase smiled, “You didn’t leave me in the dust. That’s for you all to sort out.” I said, “I was protecting them.” I heard snorts of derision. Chase said, “Their job is to protect you. They take their job seriously. They are my best warriors.” I said, “I needed Haley though remember? They don’t have magic healing hands.” Chase kissed me again, “I’d go that route with them. Good luck!” I stuck my tongue out at him as he shifted and ran away. I sighed. Kincade opened the passenger door. I said, “I don’t even get to drive?” Neither of them said a word. I rolled my eyes and got in the car. Kevin started the car and Kincade jumped in the back. I said, “Ok… let’s just go ahead and talk about this.” Kevin said, “At least warn us you are about to take off. I had to leave Kincade behind to follow you.” I said, “My intention was to take the demons away from you guys. Not for you to follow me. They didn’t want you guys; they wanted me.” Kincade said, “You are our Luna. Our Alpha has us protecting you, not the other way around.” I said, “I needed Haley. I’d been shot.” Kincade said, “I’m sorry we were too far away to tackle you so the shooter would miss the shot.” I said, “That’s not your fault.” Kevin said, “Either way. Warn us before you run away.” I said, “I can do that if you two wipe the sour puss looks off your faces. It doesn't suit either of you.” Both rolled their eyes, “We will try.” I got out of the car and walked into work. All the things we’d ordered for the kids in Chase’s pack Halloween decorations and candy had arrived. I sorted that quickly. We had a few other Halloween set ups we were doing, but all would run themselves. Ted came in and started to help. The day passed by quickly.
I told Ted I had a date Friday. To which he said we HAD to go shopping for. I told him I had plenty of outfits. Ted sighed. “Fine no shopping. Be sure to check your closet for the perfect fairy outfit again.” I laughed, “That does sound like something Haley would do.” We went our separate ways. Kincade handed me the keys. I smiled and jumped in the driver's side. Kevin said, “Kincade, it was such a good day today. No one got hurt, nothing blew up, and the future Luna is fine.” I smiled, “The night is young. It could turn around.” Both glared at me as I laughed. Once we got to my place Chase was outside with new furniture. He already had his shirt off. I made sure I wasn’t drooling and hopped out of the car. Chase wrapped his arms around me and kissed me the second I’d shut the car door. He pulled back, “I missed you.” I smiled, “I missed you too.” Chase kissed my forehead, “Good.” He turned to Kevin and Kincade, “Go home for the night. I’ve got this.” Both nodded and took off. I pushed him away, “We have furniture to move. You can’t be all hot boss man with your shirt off. A girl can only handle so much.” Chase wiggled his eyebrows, “Oh really?” I said, “Yes, really. Grab the dresser.” He laughed and one by one we carried things in. Chase insisted he only needed help with the dresser and bed. Then I got to watch him and instruct him where I wanted things. I smiled, “You have good taste. Or someone does. This is nice furniture.” Chase smiled, “I thought it would suit you.” I smiled, “You picked it out?” Chase nodded, “Like I would let someone else pick out my sweethearts room furniture.” I laughed, “You are too much.”
Chase said, “I’m going to take a shower.” I jumped on his back and bit his neck hard. “Ohh I don’t think so Mr. furniture moving man. We only have so much time before my man comes home. I have needs.” Chase growled and threw me off his back onto the new bed. He said, “Is that so Ms. Scott?” I nodded, “Please Mr. Furniture moving man. You’ve got me all hot and bothered. I’m aching for you. I could barely control myself watching you move all this furniture around.” He pounced on me, “How much time do I have?” I smirked, “About an hour.” He kissed me hard. He ripped my clothes off, “Then I’d best get to work so we don’t get caught.” I was moaning his name in seconds. When we finally fell apart, I said, “I think you went over your time limit Mr. Furniture moving man.” Chase laughed, “Yet we didn’t get caught.” I snorted and got out of bed. Chase followed me into the shower. I turned and couldn’t stop my smile. I wanted him forever. I wanted to marry him. The thought shocked me. I’d always thought marriage wasn’t for me. Even when I was with Noah, I didn't want to get married, but with Chase…. Maybe we could make it work. He looked at me, “What?” I said, “Just thinking about the future.” Chase smiled, “You are my future.” I smiled “And you’re mine.” Chase kissed me, “I’m glad you see it my way. Stop getting shot then. Next time duck for cover.” I rolled my eyes, “Duly noted.” We managed to get a few hours of sleep, but not much more.
When we walked outside Chase said, “What’s your favorite candy? I have noticed my sweetheart has a sweet tooth.” I furrowed my face in confusion. Chase hadn’t seen me eat candy. Why would he think I have a sweet tooth? I said, “Well I like dark chocolate and m&m’s. OHH Crunch bars are a favorite of mine too.” Chase smiled, “Noted.” He left walking outside. Men were weird. I giggled as soon as I stepped on my porch, “My car is back!” Chase smiled, “I see that.” I opened the door to a note from the vampire king himself.
Ms. Scott,
I had this delivered to your office. The young lad named Ted happened to be around. He said he would bring this car to you. I figured that would be fine since he is your business partner. I am very sorry this happened on my property. Rest assured your belongings, and you are safe in my home. This will not happen again. Our next event security will be tighter lass.
My deepest apologies
King Arthur
I smiled, “I wonder why Ted was at the office late enough to run into King Arthur.” Chase said, “He and Matt went back to Alpha Conners club last night for date night.” I smiled, “I’m sure they had fun then.” Chase looked guilty, “I wish I could take you.” I said, “Hey… that’s not your fault. This is my choice. Maybe one night you, me, Reagan, Cameron, Matt, Ted, Derrick, and hopefully Sally can go to your club on a weeknight. That would be fun.” Chase smiled and kissed me, “Consider it done.” I laughed, “Oh you!”
The rest of the week passed by in a flash. Heath had texted me to remind me about my missions. He stressed I had to run fast to make it back to Chase’s border with Alpha Sophia. Even going so far as to say she was Eric and Haley’s ally. What was his deal with this border? I mean it’s in our territory where the shroud is. It’s not like he couldn’t just step out and help if things got out of hand. I shrugged it off. He’d sent me a picture of the witch I was going to kill in Alpha Raven’s territory. Honestly after the last few witches I’d encountered. I had no problem with it. I was due to get to kill one. Haley had texted me that the three witches that came after me were trying to find their friend. They were just paid for the job. They had no affiliation with Noah just like I’d thought they wouldn’t. She’d given the original witch back to Chase for some reason. She was salty about it, but she did it. She assured me Matt was going to kill the witch. I rolled my eyes at that. Chase probably killed her. Haley let her kids practice their fairy skills before she and Eric killed the ones that remained in their dungeons. I kind of wished I’d gotten to see her kids in action. Apparently, she didn’t put the fire on their heads out until after they died. She said they could feel it burning their head, but it would never spread. She was scary if she wanted to be. I was here for it though. Friday rolled around before I knew it. I opened my work closet not expecting anything to be there. I only checked in the off chance Haley had added clothes that were perfect. I snorted. Haley had snapped three outfits in my closet. I pulled the note off the group.
Lex,
I know. You don’t need them, but I found this website called Pinterest. Emmaline talked about it, so I googled it. Do you know of this Pinterest deal? OUTFITS everywhere Lexi. I scrolled for hours! Eric said I had to stop. f*****g Spoil Sport. I found these outfits and I couldn’t not conjure them for you. They scream LEXI! LEXI! LEXI!
Love you,
Haley
I called Ted into my office so he could read the note. He laughed, “Oh goddess above. She’s discovered Pinterest! I will hug her cousin when I meet her. This is amazing. Open them!” I opened the zipper of the first one and gasped. I didn’t need to unzip the other two yet. I was wearing this one tonight.
Ted put his hand on the dress, “This is...beautiful it will look amazing on you.” It was nude with white lace. It was a mermaid style dress with a plunging neckline with spaghetti straps. Ted helped me into the dress. Then he fixed my hair and makeup. He stepped back and smiled, “Alpha wolf won’t know what hit him. Are you meeting there?” I nodded, “Kincade and Kevin are driving me and then taking my car home so Chase will drive us back.” Ted said, “Girl…. consider his sock blown off.” I heard a choked sound from the door. Matt had come to pick up Ted. Matt whistled, “Damn Luna! Chase is not prepared!” I said, “Don’t you link him and warn him. Do me a favor and link that to Kevin and Kincade too.” Matt nodded, “They’ve been told. Enjoy your date. Chase is excited.” I smiled, “So am I.” I went out to the car and slid into the passenger seat. Kevin and Kincade laughed. “So this is why our Beta told us we couldn’t tell our Alpha about your outfit?” I nodded, “Let’s get going.” Kincade started the car, “Yes Luna.” I smiled, “Not yet.” Kevin said, “You will always be the Luna to us Lexi.” I smiled, “Well let’s get you two in on the ground floor of calling me just Lexi.” Kincade laughed, “You could tell us your moniker like TeleTed did.” I laughed, “Good try. I actually go on missions though. I did want to apologize… Chase is sending you two with me on Christmas Eve. I’m so sorry if that messes with your family plans.” Kevin laughed, “Oh no. You’ve saved us with your mission. Our grandparents will be in town. When they are here, we hear about how we need to go off in search of our mates.” I said, “I always wanted to see how the universe brought my string to me.” Kincade said, “We want the same thing with our mates. Obviously if we get older and haven’t found our mates… We will go searching.” I smiled, “You guys will be the best mates.” They both smiled, “We plan to be.” We pulled up to the restaurant. Kincade came around and opened my car door. Kevin opened the door to the restaurant.
I smiled at them both, “Thank you.” I stepped into the restaurant. Thank god it was classy since I had dressed in formal attire. The hostess smiled, “You must be Ms. Scott. Mr. Daniels is already waiting at your table. You look beautiful.” I smiled, “Thank you very much.” She led me around the corner, and I stopped. Chase had had the restaurant filled with red roses. And flower petals were on the ground leading to the main table. There were candles everywhere. Chase stood, “Lexi…. you look…. stunning.” I smiled at him. “You did all this?” Chase smiled, “My staff did as I asked. Ted said red roses were your favorite.” I smiled, “He’s right. Chase… this…” tears filled my eyes. No one had ever done anything like this for me. Chase pulled me into him. He lightly kissed my lips. “I don’t know how we are going to make it home. It’s a damn good thing we didn’t agree to meet at your place. This dress gives me ideas.” I smiled, “Haley has discovered Pinterest.” Chase laughed, “Sometimes you just see the hand of the moon goddess in your life.” Chase pulled out my chair and we sat down. Chase handed me the menu. We both ordered the fish dinner meal. He leaned across and took my hand, “I really can’t reiterate how beautiful you look.” I smiled, “Thank you. You look quite handsome yourself.” Chase laughed. It was the best date of my life. Chase slid his chair around and fed me my desert. I threw in a few moans. I was holding back laughter as he shifted in his seat. He grabbed my hand the second I ate the last bite. He led me out of the door to his car.
Chase drove like a mad man to my place. He threw my door open moving at a speed that impressed even me. He had me pinned against the car. “I can’t stop myself anymore.” His lips crashed into mine for a brief second. He disappeared under my dress. He growled when he discovered I wasn’t wearing underwear. Did he think I was? This is a TIGHT dress. His mouth was on me. I moaned, “Chase…” He made me come four times before he came out from under my dress. He picked me up bridal style. I laughed as he ran to my room. Het set me on my feet, and he slowly turned me around. He unzipped my dress painfully slow. He pushed the spaghetti straps off my shoulders. The dress fell to the ground and Chase kissed my back, “No bra either sweetheart?” I said, “You did see the dress, right?” Chase said, “Oh...yes. I most definitely saw the dress.” He turned me around. He pushed me back onto the bed, and gently placed himself on top of me. “You are so damn beautiful. I don’t deserve you, but you’re mine.” I said, “Yours.” He worshipped me all night long. We fell asleep around three in the morning. I couldn’t believe my mate’s idea of a date was shutting down a restaurant and filling it with flowers and candles. He was everything I’d ever wanted. I couldn’t ever let him go. He kept saying I was his, but he’s mine too.
When I woke up, we both dressed quickly. I smiled, “I get to go with you today when you go home.” Chase was surprised, “You’re coming to the pack?” I nodded, “I need to help Ted set up. He took our other client set ups last night. I can’t leave him with this.” Chase smiled, “I need to link a few people.” I said, “I’ll make breakfast.” I went downstairs and threw on some toast. I decided to make us pancakes. I pulled everything out and got to work. When I was done Chase was sitting at the bar watching me with a smile. “You dance around the kitchen a little bit. Did you know that?” I smiled, “Heath has said that I do that too. I don’t see it.” Chase got up and kissed my forehead. “Thank you for making breakfast.” I said, “Try it.” He moaned. “This is delicious.” I smiled, “Gotta love traveling and picking up food tips.” Chase said, “The French chef again?” I nodded, “Yup-p.” We ate quickly and then ran over to his pack house.” Ted was waiting. He smiled, “I’m so glad you came to help.” I smiled, “Thanks for taking all the other one’s last night so I could go on my date.” Ted nodded, “Of course! My girl knows I have her back.” Matt and Chase left us so we could get to work. Nadine came and joined us. I smiled, “Good morning Nadine.” She smiled, “Good morning. I thought you might be able to use an extra set of hands.” I nodded, “Of course.” It took all over until lunch time to get everything done. Nadine smiled brightly, “The kids will just love this.” I smiled, “I hope they do.” The teachers filtered in and oohed and awed over everything. Arms encircled me. I smiled, “Good afternoon Chase.” Chase kissed my temple, “Do you have time to eat Lunch?” I nodded and noticed several people breathe a sigh of relief.
We walked up to the house. Whoever made lunch thankfully had made sandwiches. I didn’t want to eat a heavy lunch in preparation for tonight. A man walked in and Chase tensed. He kissed me, “I have to go deal with something.” I nodded, “Alright. I have to go anyway.” Ted said, “I’m coming with you.” I nodded. We ran to my house. I went ahead and hit my panels revealing my Black Arrow gear. I put it on. Ted laughed, “It’s a good thing Haley charmed your outfit to conceal your scent. The wolves around here would catch on that you were the Black Arrow.” I smiled, “You stay safe tonight Ted. Alright?” Ted laughed, “Ohhh I’ll be perfectly safe.” I smiled, “What are you going to dress up as for the kids party?” Ted smiled, “Oh, I’m going as Lady and Matt is the tramp.” I laughed, “Of course it’s a Disney themed costume.” Ted flipped his head. “Of course! Matt put me in charge of costumes.” I said, “As he should.” My phone dinged.
Heath: Get moving.
Me: Out the door.
Ted frowned, “You have to go?” I nodded, “I’ll be fine.” Ted said, “I’ll obsess about it until I see you in your Lexi outfits again.” He hugged me tight, “Be careful. You promise me?” I nodded, “I’ll be careful Ted.” I went out my back door and headed towards Alpha Raven’s territory. I was pushing myself to see how fast I could get there. I skidded to a stop and climbed a tree deep in Alpha Raven’s territory in view of the pack house. I looked at my watch. It took me forty-five minutes. I was going to have to shave off time on my way back. I watched the patrols and took down notes. Meredith, the soon to be dead witch, was sitting outside in a group. They were laughing. She took a phone call. They started to chant. I notched an arrow in my bow. I raised my arms. The second my watch hit six I sent three arrows into her chest. Screams were echoing as I dropped from the tree and took off. Three wolves tried to catch me, but I blew past them. The one waiting at the border of Alpha Raven and Alpha Kyle’s territory… was a problem. I raised my bow and shot him in the paw. I didn’t want to kill him. He howled, alerting others in Alpha Raven’s pack, but I was already past his border. I saw a patrol as I passed Alpha Kyle’s territory and ran into Emmaline’s. They only looked at me curiously. I could hear the growls and battle happening, but I kept on going. My heart ached. I wanted to fight beside my friends. My heart lurched… beside Chase. He would be fine. I had to trust that.
I made it through Chase’s border, and into Alpha Sophia’s territory. They were being overwhelmed. To my shock I saw Heath was fighting with them. Several rogues were about to target him. Anger hit me and I took out my arrows and released them. Heath whirled around with a smile on his face. The wolves howled in happiness as I joined them. I killed the witches first. They were putting spells on the wolves so they would be in pain. Thankfully none of them had been killed. They were injured though. There were at least a hundred rogues. I had to pull some arrows out of the ones I’d killed to keep going. Heath and I ran away from the wolves quickly then into the shroud. We’d only left once everyone opposing Alpha Sophia’s pack was dead. The second we stepped inside the shroud I punched Heath in the arm, “WHAT THE HELL?! If you were going to be there anyway why the heck did, I have to run like the damn wind to get there? I could’ve gone to my friend’s wedding reception.” Heath snorted, “You had to hear the fighting happening when you passed. Or the start of the illusion most likely. There was no reception.” I said, “Why didn’t you tell me you were going to be here?” Heath sighed, “I was just going to make sure they could handle it until you arrived. There were even more rogues than my intel had gathered. They would’ve lost some numbers if I didn’t step in. Is Meredith dead?” I said, “Of course she is. When have I ever failed you?” Heath smiled, “Never.” I said, “What’s the deal with Alpha Sophia’s territory. Why do you care?” Heath looked away, “I do care. Deeply.” I said, “Because?” Heath said, “In part, we need the area outside our shroud to be safe. Alpha Sophia was the only child her father had with her mother, his true mate. Her father was murdered.” I gasped, “I hadn’t heard that.” Heath said, “No one knows. Which is maddening. Werewolves don’t tend to get sick and die. Do they find his death suspect? No!” I said, “No, they don’t as far as I know.”
I thought about it, “Wait… only child with his mate… Does Sophia have siblings?” Heath said, “She does.” I said, “Were they out there fighting with us?” Heath shook his head, “No, they weren’t. She doesn’t know she has siblings. As far as that pack is concerned, Sophia is the only child her father ever had.” I frowned, “Why wouldn’t he tell her?” Heath shrugged, “We can’t ask him. He’s dead.” I said, “Do you think he knew?” Heath said, “I don’t. An Alpha would raise their child. At the very least they’d bring them into the pack to watch them be raised. Sophia would have always been the choice to take over though.” I said, “How many siblings does she have?” Heath said, “Three.” I shouted, “THREE?! I thought mates couldn't cheat on each other!” Heath said, “Marked mates can cheat it would just cause them intense pain physically. An unmarked mate can sleep with anyone only having it on their conscience.” I didn’t want to think about that, so I shoved it aside. Heath continued, “Sophia’s siblings are all older than she is.” I sighed, “Does she have a brother? Do they not know about her?” Heath said, “I haven’t determined that yet. I just discovered the connection recently.” I said, “Could… could they be behind these attacks? They could feel slighted. In their minds she got everything, and they got nothing.” Heath sighed, “I hope they are not, but they could be yes. I have a lot going on right now. I can’t dedicate a lot of time to investigating her family just yet.”
I frowned, “Can I help you with anything?” Heath smiled, “You already did. Why don’t you come eat at my house tonight? I know you don’t eat much before missions.” I nodded. Chase would be busy with cleanup anyway. We ran to heath’s house. He had spaghetti and bread on warm in his oven. I said, “Oh, so you just knew you’d get me to eat dinner with you.” Heath laughed, “Hoped. I knew you’d come with me into the shroud to ask why I was there after telling you to be quick.” I rolled my eyes, “Do you have any idea how fast I ran? I even shot an arrow at one of Alpha Raven’s wolves.” Heath shrugged, “They are following their Alpha down a bad road. They should’ve seen your actions as the favor it was. If they were found out by their allies… Alpha Eric Conners specifically, Haley’s Alpha…” I cut him off, “I am aware of who Haley’s wolf is Heath. I’ve met him as the Black Arrow and Lexi.” Heath waved, “Yes, yes, Alpha Eric Conners would take over their pack. If the pack wants Alpha Raven’s son to take over one day, they need the witches to leave. With their leader dead, and clearly being in an unsafe territory; they will go.” I said, “Do you want the son to take his father’s place?” Heath said, “The son is not the father. The father lost his mate. His mind is deteriorating without her. He’s pining for the only woman he wanted before his mate. His children do not appreciate that. Their youngest sister is worse off than Susie Daniels was. She had freedom before her mother died. He took it away. Only her family sees her, and she’s not allowed to leave even her room.”
