Change of Heart Pt. 2

      “Uhh… What the hell Derrick?” Matt asked. Derrick said, “I don’t know. Rocket took over. I don’t know what’s going on.” I said, “Ookkkk… Let’s just run with it. Willow and Opal are good choices too.” Matt was staring at Derrick perplexed. Matt added, “And Sally seems like a sweet little thing. Male shadows might make her uncomfortable. She is hood though.” Derrick growled. I said, “DERRICK! Go for a run towards the border with Sophia. Figure out how to get Gamma Wyatt to me.” I used my Alpha command. He dragged his feet as if they were encased in cement. “What on god’s green earth is wrong with him?” Matt asked me. I frowned, “I have no idea.” Matt said, “Moving on from whatever the f**k just happened. I have linked all the warriors we spoke of and they are on their way. What is this about Former Gamma Wyatt?” I said, “Someone is going to pay. Sophia is scared because of him. Lexi is secret because of him. I tortured myself being away from her because of him. He’s f*****g dead Matt. Derrick is figuring out how to get him away from Sophia’s territory.” Matt said, “You could ask her.” I said, “She could say no.” Matt said, “So we are going with better to ask for forgiveness than ask permission?” I said, “We are going with she won’t sign the annulment papers, so my wife’s prisoners are mine as well.” Matt said, “OHHHH BURN! I like it. That will also work. That’s actually flawless. I’m beginning to feel superfluous to you.” I laughed, “I need you Matt, and we both know it.” Matt smiled, “You do. Lord knows how many wars I’ve stopped from breaking out. You know Gamma McCann is going to come after us.” I nodded, “I do. When he does, he’ll die, and his sister's son can take over as the Gamma.” Matt said, “Now I want to know who that kids’ dad is.” I shrugged, “Who knows? Could’ve been a rogue, could’ve gone rogue. Could’ve been a host of other people. I could give a s**t less.”  

        Matt handed me a piece of paper, “Later you will tell me why I wasn’t informed YOU GOT SHOT WITH A TRANQUILIZER! These are things you tell your Beta. Also I noticed you glossed over Ted mentioning you BANGING Lexi. I already knew you see because I read Kevin and Kincade’s report.” I took it. The demon who’d shot the tranquilizer was killed. No one made it out alive. I looked up, “Lexi brought me around quickly. I was only down for a few minutes.” Matt said, “Don’t worry I have sense BERATED Kevin and Kincade in our fairy charmed office.  They will be letting me know these things from now on. It won’t happen in the future.” I said, “Speaking of you were in the shroud yesterday. Where is it?” Matt smirked, “I was blindfolded.” I laughed outright, “But you know where it is because you know this area.” Matt said, “I do know this area like the back of my hand. It’s in Alpha Sophia’s territory. We are BOTH very lucky. I am lucky because when Ted and Lexi set up their event planning business; it was the first time Ted came out of the shroud. My wolf would’ve been LOSING it for three years if we could feel them in the shroud. YOU are DAMN lucky Lexi travels a lot ever since she turned eighteen. She tends to be gone or fairy popped in and out of the area. Or in her fairy charmed home that protects her presence. Or Bolt would’ve been KILLING you.” I shivered, “You’re right. Too bad we weren’t in Europe at the same time.” Matt said, “It is a very good thing you weren’t in Europe at the same time. Because you were pissed off every day about Sophia not signing the papers.” I had to agree, “That is true.” 

            Willow and Opal arrived first, “Alpha? You asked us to your office.” I said, “There’s a caterer who works with our Beta Male. He and his business partner are worried about her safety. You two are going to discreetly guard her while she’s here. Our allies will allow you in their territories as well if she ventures that way. Be on the lookout for her… mate.” Both gasped, “We are worried about her mate?” I nodded, “He’s obsessed with someone else. Our Beta Male and his partner are worried enough there are self-defense classes happening.” Both girl’s nodded. Mark and Joanie knocked on the door. I motioned for them to come in. “Your assignments will overlap so you might as well hear this. Mark and Joanie, you will be our Beta Male’s shadows. An office across from his will be provided for you both. Opal and Willow are guarding the caterer that works with them. You will also see Kevin and Kincade guarding our Beta Male’s partner. Her name is Lexi Scott. Nothing will happen to any of these people. Are we clear?” 

        All nodded Matt said, “Joanie, would you stay back a moment?” Mark, Opal, and Willow filed out, “I’ll wait for you Joanie. Once you’re done, we can head out to guard Beta Male Ted.” Joanie nodded and turned to Matt. Mark closed the door shut. Matt said, “If you’re interested in having a pup with me through insemination; I’d like you to get to know Ted better. Obviously, he and I will decide together, but you’re my top choice. If you’re interested.” Joanie smiled, “I am interested. You know my mate died before he could mark me in a rogue attack. After this much time, I don’t think my second chance is out there. When I heard you were gay; to be honest I thought maybe this was the goddess’s path for me.” Matt nodded, “I haven’t worked out the logistics, but I was thinking of building a larger version of a duplex like home so we can share in parenting duties.” Joanie nodded, “That would be acceptable to me.  I will use this time to get to know Ted better.” She stood and shook Matt’s hand. “Thank you, Beta Matt.,” He smiled, “I should thank you for considering it.” Joanie laughed, “No you shouldn’t. Having a child who’s the future Beta is an honor many would like. It’s not a burden, and I want a pup. I know I’d be a good mom, but I don’t have my heat because I’m not marked. I don’t want to try the witch route. This is honestly the best case scenario I could’ve hoped for.” She nodded to me and left. I said, “If your mom finds out you talked to her…” Matt laughed, “Ted wants to get settled here but he’s thinking June for our first child. He wants me to go first because he doesn’t want us to get spoiled by his baby who can conjure it’s bottles.” I laughed, “That’s really smart.” Matt nodded, “Yup…” He trailed off and stiffened. He took out his phone. I saw he was dialing Ted.

        Before I could ask Kincade and Kevin linked me, “An alert went out for the hood members. It’s Sally’s SOS. Beta Male Ted informed us Lexi sent it out from her phone. She went to see Sally.” I growled. Matt was trying to calm down Ted, “Ted, you did what you could. You got Kevin and Kincade. NO YOU STAY RIGHT THERE! You’re not a fighter! We don’t know the situation. Matt looked at me, and I nodded. Answering his unspoken question. Matt told Ted, “We are coming.” Both of us ran to the car. Bolt snarled, “We will get there faster if we run.” I replied, “If Lexi is hurt, I’m not waiting around looking for some damn shorts Bolt!” Bolt said, “Fine.” Kincade linked me, “The Luna is down. She’s been stabbed. She killed all but one. Looks like she dove in front of her friend Sally.” I tore the steering wheel off the dashboard. Matt said, “WHAT THE HELL CHASE?!” I took the door off the driver side and growled at him, “Get in another car and f*****g DRIVE!” Matt scrambled out of the car I’d destroyed. He got into the driver’s seat. He hissed, “Ok, I know what happened now. I have been brought up to speed. I’m sorry Chase.” Kincade linked me again, “We killed the one who hurt her. We are taking her back to her office. She is alert and taking.” I said, “Where was she stabbed? Is Sally hurt?” Kincade said, “Sally had some bruises but is otherwise unharmed. The Luna was stabbed in the stomach. Her brother just showed up.” I growled and hit the dashboard. Matt said, “Please don’t break this car while I’m driving.” I said, “Lexi’s brother is there. He could take her away. I can’t go to her while he’s there.” Matt said, “He will call the fairy princess to heal Lex. You wouldn’t have been able to be there for her anyway.” I growled, “I don’t need your rationale right now! My mate is hurt! I’m the piece of s**t mate who can’t be by her damn side!”

            Matt winced, “You’re not going to like this.” I growled, “DO YOU KNOW OTHER WORDS ANYMORE?!” Matt said, “Lexi is coughing up blood.” I said, “DRIVE FASTER MATT!” We parked. Matt pointed at a girl and said, “That’s Sally.” I raised an eyebrow, “The woman who just slapped the s**t out of…. Oh my god.” Matt locked the doors of the car, “Not now Chase. You can’t kill him in the middle of the street.” I growled, “That’s him!” He went to grab Sally to pull her back to him, but Willow bumped into him. I could hear her, “Oh gosh, I’m so sorry. Are you alright?” Noah yelled at her “WATCH where you’re going!” He turned and Willow smiled as Sally had already made it inside. I growled and unlocked the car as Noah followed her inside. Matt pinned me to the side of the building, “You can’t kill him.” I growled, “LEXI is in there! He’s going in there. This HAS to be his fault.” Opal came up beside us, “Kevin linked me. He let me know their office is unlocked. He and Kincade tested it out. The fairy princess charmed it too. You can be as loud as you want up there Alpha. Is…” She linked me, “Is Lexi Scott our future Luna?” I linked Opal, Willow, Mark and Joanie, “Yes, your future Luna is Lexi Scott. We are keeping that quiet until Alpha Sophia and I get our annulment. NOT for Alpha Sophia’s sake but for Lexi. That piece of s**t you just saw Sally Quaid slap is obsessed with your future Luna. He broke her heart, they dated as teenagers. For the safety of your future Luna’s heart, at her request, we are keeping this quiet.” They all nodded, and Matt and I went inside.

        We took the stairs and barely made it into the office before Sally got off the elevator. Noah had taken the stairs opposite of us. Sally was fast though. She made it Lexi’s office. I could smell her blood even with the office door shut. I paced. Matt winced, “The fairy princess passed out from healing Lexi.” We heard Alpha Conners voice. Matt winced again. Heath asked what happened and I found the verbal reported I’d received was correct. Lexi took a knife for Sally. I turned to Matt, “You find out who’s behind this attack in my territory! RIGHT f*****g NOW!” Matt said, “You’re not going to believe this.” I said, “You already know who did this.” Matt said, “It’s not my first day on the job. It’s a bookie. A supernatural one though.” I said, “Good. Get EVERYTHING on them. I had plans with Lexi tonight, but I think they just blew those to pieces.” Matt sighed, “Yeah, my plans too. Ted will insist on being with Sally.” We both paused when we heard Noah on the phone, “You went after Sally! I TOLD you I’d get you the money tomorrow! You’ve ruined everything! I told Sally I was gambling! Of course she bought it. I’m convincing! I don’t know how I’m going to smooth this over with Heath. You’ve jeopardized this entire thing!” He was silent for a moment then said, “I’ll get everything I want. YOU just made that path TEN TIMES harder! I’ll lose my position over this. Possibly my string. Though… I could get a second chance string. Could be that Lexi would be mine this time.” I growled and Matt used all his strength to keep me there. “We need to listen. Obviously, there is more to the supernatural bookie! Come on! Keep it together! We need to know what’s going on!” I said, “We could kill him and then NOTHING would be going on.” Matt sighed and I used all my willpower to not open the door and kill that piece of mother f*****g s**t. Noah said, “I want them both! I told you that. Now you’ve probably cost me one! I can only be convincing if she will SPEAK to me. She slapped me twice and walked away. I would’ve taken her away, but someone bumped me and blocked my way. Their f*****g timing was shit.” I smirked. The timing was brilliant. “I need to see how this plays out. If I have to get out of the shroud for a while and lay low. I will.”

         I raised an eyebrow. Matt said, “At least he knows he will lose his position over this.”  I told Matt, “Find a way to leak to Heath what Noah has done to his sister.” Matt said, “Shouldn’t Lexi tell him?” I said, “We are past that. This has endangered both her and Sally. Noah will not touch Lexi, and I’ll be damned if he hurts Sally again. Lexi was STABBED because of HIM! FIND ME A WAY!” Matt said, “Finding a way.” Heath barreled out of Lexi’s office. We might have to replace her office door. Matt said, “I know it got tense, but you missed hearing Alpha Conner’s son say Momma up…. Then magically a few minutes later Haley was talking. I think her son can heal like she can.” I gaped, “Holy shit.” Matt said, “Exactly.” I linked Opal, “If the man and Noah stop where you can hear them. Listen to their conversation and report to me.” Matt said, “Apparently, Lexi is in a group of people not allowed to leave the princess. She’d save her from death itself.” I nodded, “That’s good.” I started to pace, “Are they gone?” We both stiffened and it saved our asses. We had almost walked in the door but hearing Noah’s claim my mate was his world stopped me. Matt pushed me back into the other office as I growled and threw the desk against the wall, “SHE’S MINE! I COULD’VE KILLED HIM AND YOU DIDN'T LET ME!” Matt said, “Not the right time. I don’t think he will be protected by Heath after this. His actions led to one of his people almost being murdered IN BROAD DAYLIGHT! I mean the nerve of some people. That would’ve brought attention to the hood, and they DO NOT like attention. Then let’s just add that his sister got stabbed. He didn’t sound happy about that fact. Also, it’s a good thing we didn’t go into Lexi’s office. The fairy princess has popped back in.” 

        I pushed Matt off me and paced, “I have never been so scared Matt. I just got her; I can’t even f*****g mark her. I almost lost her because of this BULLSHIT with an ex!” Matt wisely said nothing as I paced. Matt finally said, “Maybe the princess will kill him for you.” I growled, “I don’t f*****g care at this point. Someone NEEDS to kill him. I WANT him dead.” I heard the princess say she’d confirm it. I walked out of the office and held the doorknob to Lexi’s office. As soon as I heard a pop, I slammed it back open. Everything settled within me the second I had her in my arm. I didn’t care that I was an Alpha. I couldn’t stop my tears. I’d almost lost her. I couldn’t let her go, but she pulled back from our hug. I kept a hand on her waist. Sally put together I was Lexi’s string. Our quiet small little group kept growing. I linked Matt, “If the fairy princess finds out about me and Lexi already knowing each other…. We could all be in a world of pain.” Matt snorted, “Then you better hope the all knowing Alpha Eric Conners doesn’t know.” I raised an eyebrow, “Matt… if you think he doesn't have an idea or knows but hasn’t confirmed. You’re crazy. He knows but he doesn’t because he doesn’t want to tell Haley. He’s going with plausible deniability because he doesn’t want to know.” Matt said, “That does sound like him.” I couldn’t stop my growl at hearing Noah say Lexi was his again. Lexi immediately calmed me down. Matt linked, “I’m going to tap Sophia’s shoulder until she agrees to your annulment. Lexi is better than Prozac for you. I NEED her around the main house.” My heart went out to Sally talking about knowing her string wasn’t her forever. Matt sighed, “I thought I was going to have to trick Ted into helping me find a way to slip the hood information. I think he’ll deliver it himself after that little speech of Sally’s.” I said, ‘Wouldn't you?” Matt said, “Yeah, I’d have killed the fucker though. That’s not my Ted’s style.” I said, “Again. I would’ve killed him already if you hadn’t stopped me.” 

        Matt glared at me, “In public. ON THE STREET. These are not places we kill people.” I rolled my eyes at him. Matt said, “Nor is where you drag people off the streets to bring home and kill. Which you would remember if you didn’t want to kill him so badly.” I felt a pang in my heart hearing that Sally was going to reject Noah. It was a reflex now that I had Lexi. Noah deserved it though. Their goddess should absolutely bless Sally with a second chance mate. Her first mate was the worst mate she could’ve gotten. Lexi told Sally she could get away for a week. As long as I knew when Sally was returning so her guards could be on her that was fine. f*****g Hours. I was hours behind some f*****g bookie who was going to die. If I’d assigned Sally guards a few hours before this would’ve NEVER happened. Ted spoke and confirmed what Matt and I knew. We’d be without our mates tonight. Lexi looked at me with an apology on her face. I tried to confirm that was necessary with mine. I was surprised she offered to change our plans for lunch instead of dinner. Bolt snorted, “You shouldn't be, we just found each other. Of course she wants to spend time with us. We’ve only had a night.” They confirmed their plans and I linked Matt, “The SECOND I step out of Lexi’s I want to know where that bookie is. He’s going to spend time in our dungeons until I know EXACTLY what he and Noah were discussing.” I apologized to Sally letting her know that she’d have guards whenever she returned from her vacation wherever that would be. She thanked me and I pulled Lexi back into me. I linked Kincade and Kevin, “I’ve got her until we leave her house. I’ll link you when you need to guard her.” Both nodded and left. Lexi asked if I minded changed out plans. Mind? I was happy we were doing something. My need for her overtook me. I stripped her shirt off once we’d got to her office. I kicked the door shut with my foot. I kissed the patch of skin where she’d been stabbed. This precious piece of skin would never be harmed again.

            I had to taste her. I dropped down on my knees knowing no one woman or man would ever get me on my knees but her. I took her with my mouth then stood to enter her. I needed to claim her. I was fighting Bolt every second of the way. I couldn’t stop myself when she said she was mine. I needed to claim her. She almost died, and I didn’t know because we weren’t linked. I went for her neck and managed to pull my hand up to bite it instead. Our marking should be more special than this. It should also not be until I can have her by my side. She looked into my eyes and cradled my face with her hands, “Chase Daniels. You are one of a kind.” I pulled my teeth out of my arm. Lexi slid off me and went to grab a first aid kit. I laughed, “It’s already healed sweetheart.” She blushed and took my hand studying my arm. “That’s handy.” She took out an antiseptic wipe and cleaned off my arm. “There, all better.” She put her forehead against mine, “I’m falling so hard and fast for you Chase Daniels. It’s a little scary.” I said, “I already love you Lexi Scott. You are my world.” She gasped, “You love me?” I said, “I do. You’ve invaded my everything thought, you are the core of my soul. I love you Lexi.” She put her forehead on mine and kissed me. “I’m not ready to say that yet.” I smiled, “You don’t need to be. I just needed you to know.” Lexi stared into my eyes, “I’m scared.” I said, “I’ll never hurt you, and I’ll never let anyone else hurt you Lexi. The only reason the dead motherfucker is alive is because Matt held me back.” Lexi nodded, “Let’s go. We can get everything ready to cook.” 

            I followed her out. We went to her car, and she took off. She made some evasive maneuvers. “Do you think you’re being followed?” I asked her. She said, “I know we were.” I said, “Is it your brother?” Her phone lit up saying Heath. Lexi said, “It’s not him following us, no. He’d be dealing with Noah.” Lexi answered her phone, “Heath.” Heath said, “STOP trying to lose our people.” Lexi laughed, “Trying? You’re behind big brother. I did lose them.” Heath said, “If you get hurt, I’ll lock you in your room for the REST OF THE YEAR!” Lexi laughed, “I’m fine Heath. I’ll talk to you later.” She hung up. I growled, “I can’t let him take you.” Lexi patted my leg, “He won’t. He’s just upset and dealing with Noah. He won’t like having to do that.” I nodded. We got out of her car and walked into her house. We worked side by side in the kitchen. She decided on making chicken parmesan with green beans and fries. Her little giggles as she instructed me through how to properly steam the green beans was adorable. I intentionally messed up a few times to make her laugh. It’s not like green beans were remotely hard to steam. Once she put the chicken in to cook, I turned her around and sat her on the opposite counter. I kissed her lightly. “I don’t like you getting hurt.” Lexi said, “I don’t imagine that you do.” I smirked, “Don’t do it again.” Lexi shrugged, “Can’t promise that.” I slid my hand up her thigh. “Is that so?” Lexi bit her lip, “Yes.” I’d already ripped her underwear off, and I could feel her juices flowing down her thighs. I kissed her hard and nipped her lip sliding a finger into her. She wrapped her arms around my neck and moaned into my mouth.
