Project Get a Clue Pt. 3

 Heath said, “Looking for you. I was angry. Thankfully I got to kill a few rogue wolves along the way. My string was murdered, Lexi. I got the confirmation today. SHE WAS TAKEN FROM ME!” He threw his phone into the wall. I said, “I know.” Heath turned, “You suspected.” I said, “I just saw the war goddess. I hear you’ve met her too. She told me you weren’t in a good mood. She also told me you had a second and possible third string out there should you and your second not work out. Why wouldn't you work out you ask? I have no idea.” Heath sighed and sat down, “She came to me three years ago.” I said, “I heard. You weren’t supposed to kill someone.” Heath actually looked ashamed for a few seconds, “Yes. I didn’t kill my target, but I still want to... most days.” I said, “Heath, she told me to tell you to be happy. The weight of the world isn’t on you. Go find your second string and be happy Heath.” Heath stood, “I can’t right now. I need to avenge my first string.” I said, “Why are you stalling? You’ve known your second string is out there as our leader, you'd have to have one. You said that yourself, and you’ve just been working yourself to death.” Heath said, “I can’t explain it to you right now Lexi.” I said, “But there is an explanation.” Heath nodded, “I will tell you all about it one day.”

        I went and gave him a hug. “Do you need me to stay? I’ll step out to see Chase and come back.” Heath said, “No, I have a mission. I put it off to come find you, and obviously I’ve been with you this whole time. I need to get moving.” I said, “Think about it Heath. You deserve to be happy.” Heath had tears in his eyes, “It does not feel that way most days Lexi.” I frowned, “Why?” Heath said, “I can’t tell you.” I said, “Fine, don’t tell me. I’ll just tell you there is no one I know more worthy of happiness than you and Haley. She’s blissed out happy with her mate. You deserve this Heath. No matter who she is, she’s better off with you in her life. I know I am. You’re withholding the amazingness that is Heath Scott from your string.” Heath snorted, “I’ll keep that in mind.” I laughed, “See that you do.” I hugged him again. He said, “Don’t get bitten by rogues.” I said, “I’ll do my best.” With that both of us left. I met Ted and Sally outside. I said, “There’s no way either of your wolves let you leave the territory without guards.” Sally said, “They are at Ted’s house. Heath was…. not into seeing wolves until you woke up.” I said, “Fair enough. I met the war goddess, and she said I’d see her again.” Ted screamed, “TELL ME EVERYHTING!” I walked them both through it. Ted said, “That settles it. If I see you without a mark when you get home, I’m calling Haley. I don’t give a crap what anyone says! I’ll explain it all to her in excruciating detail. Then I’ll have her fairy lock you and Alpha boy up until you are marked. Don’t think I won’t do it!” I laughed, “I believe you.” Mark, Joanie, Opal, and Willow were visibly relieved to see me when we walked into Ted’s parents’ home. Anne ran up to me and threw her arms around me. She pulled back, “You are just giving me scares all over the place. You and Ted need to stop this now.” I laughed, “I’ll do my best Anne.”

        Joanie stood, “We need to get back. Matt is worried about Ted, and Derrick is worried about Sally.” Just as we were about to leave Sally’s parents burst through the door. Her mother sobbed and hugged Sally to her. “Oh my baby! My sweet beautiful little girl!” Sally’s dad kissed the top of her head. Her three older brothers barreled into the house next. Anne said, “I might have made a call…. or three.” I laughed, “Of course you did.” Every fiber of my body wanted to go to Chase, but I knew he wouldn’t be happy if I left without Mark, Joanie, Opal, and Willow.” Sally’s oldest brother said, “What’s on your neck Sally?” Sally said, “I found my second string. He’s the gamma in Ted’s pack.” Everyone was stunned. Sally said, “I really want to get back to him, but I promise we will talk.” Sally’s mom said, “And meet him! I want to meet my son in law.” Her dad said, “Does he treat you right, peanut? I won’t sit back and watch you be treated as you were by that wretched excuse of a string.” Sally smiled, “He’s perfect. He’s everything I’ve ever wanted. He’s everything I dreamed about having in a string growing up seeing how you and mom were.” Her dad nodded, “Good.” Her brother said, “We will not be easy to impress this time.” Sally rolled her eyes. Her oldest brother said, “The only reason Noah isn’t dead is because he was the Lieutenant.” Sally smiled, “You guys!” They all hugged. We stepped outside giving them all a minute.

        Ted said, “Mom, you make me so proud. We will have to call you TeleAnne.” I laughed, “It’s not as catchy.” Anne said, “They’ve missed her. I had to call them and let them know she was here.” I said, “She’s missed them too.” Tony said, “Does her new mate really treat her well?” Ted said, “Treats her like the Queen she is.” Anne laughed, “Now we just need to find someone in the pack for you Lexi! Then the three amigos will be together.” Ted and I both laughed. At least it was still a secret in the shroud that I’d found my string. Anne said, “I’m serious. Ted you be on the lookout.” Ted saluted as Sally came outside. We all walked back through the shroud. We all ran back to Chase’s pack. I stopped when we got there and asked the question I’d be dying to ask, “Chase is ok, right?” Joanie answered, “Yes Luna. The Alpha is fine.” I said, “Oh no you don’t Future baby momma for Ted’s children. You MUST call me Lexi.” Joanie laughed, “I love how involved Ted already is with the kid and his friends. I had a slight fear that he wouldn’t be as involved, but that is just not the case.” Ted said, “Ohhh my future little one that will be cooking in there may not have my nature but nurture people… That’s where you will see TeleTed’s influence shine through in the pup as you all say.” We all laughed. Ken and Kyler were on me as soon as we crossed the border. I said, “Where’s Kincade and Kevin?” Ken said, “Oh… Kincade is questioning rogues. He’s...uhhh…” Just then I heard Kincade yelling. Ken said, “He’s excited because Alpha Conners head warrior thought he was amazing. It’s made him very efficient in getting answers.” Ted and I erupted into laughter. Sally shot us a questioning look. I said, “I’m sure it did.” Ken said, “Should you feel the need to explain why that makes him walk on air…. I’m all ears” I said, “Sorry. My lips are sealed.” 

        Ken frowned then said, “TeleTed?” Ted put his hands on his heart, “These are my people. They just know where to turn to for answers when they meet a wall. Your brother has a little crush on our intern. Liam is her brother.” Ken and Kyler said, “CRUSH?! Kincade… you’re sure? Our big brother…. has a crush?” Ted said, “Oh… I am so very sure.” Kyler said, “On Carry Henderson?” Ted nodded, “That would be our only intern.” Ken whistled, “Our big brother is going to step in it with that one.” We all laughed. I walked into the hospital, and people pointed us to the room we wanted without asking who we were looking for. I felt relaxed the second I saw the back of Chase’s head. Everyone was all gathered in this one room. I let them all know I was glad they were ok. It was helpful they were in the same place too. Chase had me in his arms in a second. I couldn’t help but wonder if this would feel better if I was marked. I’d have to ask Ted or Sally. I explained that Heath wasn’t in a good mood today. I couldn’t blame him. I didn’t even want to think about my level of anger if someone had killed Chase. Pain…. Physical pain hit me at the thought of that. I quickly shook myself as Susie told me she met my friend today. I laughed. She was studying me closely. She looked at Chase saying he’d told her BA was my friend. She knew. I glanced at Ted and Sally who were trying not to laugh. Why couldn’t Chase just figure it out? I guess I still hadn’t seen him as the Black Arrow. I asked Susie who she was talking about. She said the Black Arrow, but I’d known that. Susie asked me to take her for ice cream. The glint in her eye told me exactly what she wanted to talk about. We absolutely could not discuss that in front of people.

        I told her we could get ice cream. Chase was growling. He wanted me to take my protection. I told him I’d take Ken and Kyler with us because Kincade and Kevin were busy. I also had NO clue how to find them. Was I supposed to follow the sound of Kincade’s growls? Susie grabbed my hand and started to drag me out of the room. Chase quickly hugged me and told me he was glad I was ok. I was glad he was ok and didn’t require Haley to heal him. I’d much prefer it be me than him that needed to be healed. Susie grew impatient and yanked me out the door. Once we got outside, I said, “I have some ice cream at my house. What do you say we chat about things there?” Susie thought about it. She sighed, “You’re right. Next time though, we go out. Daddy didn’t even argue. He must have got hit on the head REAL hard. He was mad they made him use a wheelchair to come see us all.” I laughed, “He’s a stubborn guy.” I’d been really glad to see Frank and Nadine awake and talking.

         Ken and Kyler watched us disappear once we got to my house. Kyler said, “That’s just f*****g weird. I mean… just weird. Don’t say f*****g… ever little Susie!” Susie laughed, “Why not?” Kyler said, “Because your dad would kill me.” Susie said, “Ok. I won’t say it.” We got inside and I closed the door. Susie said, “I know it’s you.” I said, “You know what’s me?” Susie said, “You’re the Black Arrow.” I said, “I can’t actually answer that, but if you were to hit certain panels over there…. I couldn’t stop you.” Susie began to poke around, and I went to get us ice cream. It took Susie fifteen minutes to get the combination right. Haley must have snapped my things back. Because Susie stepped back when she saw my black arrow gear. “I KNEW IT! I KNEW she wasn’t your friend. Because she’s you!” I said, “How did you know?” Susie said, “You said that we should have project Tacos to distract me and Sally.” I thought about it, “That’s pretty good Susie.” She giggled, “Why doesn’t Chase know?” I said, “I can’t tell him because I’m not marked. He could figure it out on his own though.” Susie said, “Oh I know! Let’s have Project Get A Clue!” I Laughed, “I'm in.” Susie said, “We will get him to figure it out. I know we will.” We ate for a few minutes in silence. 

        Susie stood when she was done. “I should get back. I have lots of projects I need to get plans going for.” I laughed, “You do have a lot of projects going.” I took her home. Sally was running towards us. She stopped on a dime in front of us. Susie said, “Wow. You guys… are so cool.” Sally laughed, “I need to borrow Lexi.” Susie said, “Ok. I need to plan out some things. I’ll see you later Lexi.” I said, “We will watch you from here.” We watched Susie walk away. Sally said, “I think you should call Chase as BA.” I laughed. “Are you serious?” Sally said, “He’s twitchy about BA for some reason. I think we should see if we can figure out why.” By the time Susie made it to the front door of the main house Sally and I were both laughing so hard. Susie waved at us, and we waved back. Once she was inside, we took off for my house. I grabbed my BA mask, and Sally handed me her burner phone. Sally and I were trying not to laugh the second Chase picked up the phone. He seemed so tense. I frowned when he said he didn’t want to call me BA. Everyone wanted to call me BA. He awkwardly thanked me for saving his family. His voice sounded crackled and dry. Sally was trying so hard to keep in her laughter. I had no idea what was wrong with Chase. I mentioned he owed me for saving his ally too. Halloween had been a while ago, but Heath and I still saved her. Chase spat out that she owed me for that. I thought they were childhood friends. What the hell happened with them a few months ago? I wanted to hang up. I was confused. Chase asked me to wait. Then Sally and I both were trying not to laugh when Chase asked if I do missions with myself. It would be quite hard to not go with myself. I made him work for it. There could be another hood member named Lexi Scott. I muted the phone and Susie laughed, “Oh my god. He’s going to lose it. You are so bad!” I said, “There could be another Lexi in the hood. Ok… gather yourself. I’m taking the phone back off mute.”  

        Ted ran in and raised an eyebrow at us. I told Chase I did missions with myself. Ted clapped a hand over his mouth. It warmed my heart when Chase asked someone, he didn’t realize was me to watch out for myself. I’m all about covering my own ass. I told him I would. Then I decided to tease him and dropped my voice and called him Alpha like I do in the bedroom. It actually sounded pretty good through my distorter. I hung up quickly. All three of us laughed. Ted said, “That poor man! You are messing with him!” I said, “Huh? How?” Ted sighed, “I’m not supposed to know but apparently Chase is all confused because he finds the Black Arrow intriguing.” Sally and I looked at each other for a beat then busted up laughing. Sally said, “Oh my god! That’s why he was just so dang weird when I brought up BA!”  I laughed, “You? I was starting to get a complex that he somehow didn’t like me.” Ted rolled his eyes, “Matt has been probing me about BA for a few weeks now.” I laughed, “I wonder why Chase hasn’t just asked me.” Sally said, “Really? You wonder why your mate won’t ask you about a girl he finds intriguing.” I said, “Point taken. He finds me intriguing though because I’m me. Seriously? Does he need a flashing neon sign?!” Ted said, “Uhh Frank did to realize who you were to Chase. Maybe it’s the Alpha in them.” I said, “Does Matt suspect anything?” Ted said, “Matt hasn’t met you. They suspect something, but I don’t know that it’s that you are in fact the Black Arrow. They seem to think you are friends.” I laughed, “I kind of hope Chase asks me about me. I’d die laughing.” Sally yawned, “Sorry guys. I get so tired lately.” I said, “I hear that’s normal.” Sally said, “Can you guys come with me? My family is meeting me near here to talk. I’m nervous to tell them about the baby.” I said, “Of course.” Ted said, “I’m in. Matt’s going to be filling out paperwork pretty damn late according to him.”

        We all walked outside and followed Sally to her family's meeting place. They were already there waiting for her. Her three older brothers had grown up with us. Their names were Jeff, Tim, and Jake. Her family smiled when they saw us run up together. Jeff scooped me up in a hug, “Lexi Scott. You just don’t come around often enough.” I laughed, “I’m around quite enough.” He shook his head, “Nope, no you aren’t.” We all sat down. Sally took out her phone to show her family a picture of her and Derrick. “This is Derrick. He’s working right now because Noah worked with rogues to try and take me today.” Jeff and Jake jumped to their feet to pace while Tim seethed remaining seated. Jeff said, “I’ll kill his punk ass!” Sally’s mom said, “Now, boys…” Tim said, “We listened to all your ‘now boys’ while Noah and Sally were together. Well, they aren’t together anymore, and I’m done listening to your ‘now boys.’ I’ll bet Sally’s wolf will help us formulate a plan to bring Noah to justice. Then we can size him up.” I said, “Oh he absolutely would help you. I’m sure he already has a plan. He’s crazy about Sally.” Ted said, “Head over heels can barely leave her alone and has six guards on her at all times crazy.” Everyone gaped at him. Ted said, “What? You see those two girls? They are Sally’s guards. The other four are hidden.” Sally’s dad said, “Well…. That’s a good start.” Sally fiddled with her hands. Her mom grabbed them, “You always do that when you’re nervous to say something. What’s going on Sally?” Sally said, “I’m pregnant. Derrick and I are going to have a baby.” Sally’s mom’s jaw dropped. Her dad said, “So…. all that trouble you had was on Noah’s end? Not yours?”

        Sally winced, “Umm no. He...Noah didn’t ask if I wanted to have a baby. He just told the healer to stop filling my birth control.” Sally’s dad’s face turned red. All her brother’s hands clenched. Sally’s mom said, “That was not his place. Accidents happen but if you are planning that is a two way conversation.” Sally shrugged, “Nothing with Noah was a two way conversation…. I….” I nodded to her encouragingly. Everyone glanced at me briefly before Sally continued, “I went to an outside doctor for birth control. I used an alias just of Kylie’s just in case Noah was checking up on me. I was never trying to have a baby with Noah. I always knew he wanted Lexi, and I didn’t want to bring a child into that situation. Derrick is different though. I met the war goddess.” Everyone but Ted and I gasped. Sally’s mom said, “You did? Sweetie, what did she say?” Sally said, “She showed me what my life was supposed to be like. She wanted me to know it wasn’t supposed to be hard with Noah. Then she showed me my path if I accepted my second chance string…. If I didn’t accept him….” She looked at me. I held her hand. I spoke, “Then Noah would’ve killed Sally. He would’ve taken her at the event Susanna was stabbed at. Sally accepted Derrick so she wasn’t there.” Jim said, “OH I WILL kill him.” Ted snorted, “There’s a line.” Jim said, “I have no intentions of playing by any sort of rules to get Noah, TeleTed.” Ted said, “Tell the fairy princess that.” Jim said, “s**t!” Jeff said, “I was so worried about you sally this whole time because I knew how much you wanted a family. I just knew… you shouldn’t have one with that asshole. Am I really going to be an uncle?” Sally nodded, “Yes.” Sally’s mom said, “FINALLY! A grandbaby! You three and your string’s just keep saying oh next year, oh next year.” All three shrugged. Ted said, “Where are your better half’s?” They all replied, “Missions.” 

        I said, “Sally, do you want us to give you some time?” She nodded. She hugged both Ted and I. Sally said, “Wait, I’ll just take them to my place. Let’s run together.” They ran. The body cleanup was still going on. Ted said, “DAMN BA!” Sally laughed, “She was… pissed.” Ted said, “Pissed? She was a one woman wrecking crew! I am so proud.” All of Sally’s family snorted. She pulled them all across and we heard their gasps of surprise. Tim said, “This is some s**t. How do I become friends with the fairy princess? Does she have an application system? I’m willing to wait. I’ve got time.” Ted and I laughed. Exhaustion hit me. I waved goodbye to Ted and ran back to my place. I fell asleep before I hit the bed. When I woke up, I saw Chase beside me. I smiled and kissed his face. I said his name, and his eyes slowly opened. He said he loved me. I knew that. I kissed him and he slowly pulled back and got off the bed. I was confused and a little hurt. I asked him what was wrong. He told me he was dreaming about BA. What? That’s what’s wrong? I mean… it’s still me. He just doesn’t know that. Poor guy is probably going crazy. He looked so worried while he explained it all to me. He was stunned that I wasn’t mad. He even said he was making out with me as BA in his dreams. I couldn’t stop my laugh. Susie and I were going to have our work cut out for us with Project get a clue. I had to explain I would only hold him accountable for mean things he does in MY dreams. His dreams are his own problem. Although it was still hilarious, he was guilty over making out with me as BA. We spent the rest of the weekend together. 

        I was in a blissed out state when I walked into the office on Monday morning. I’d already told Chase I’d be late since I had a meeting with the Vampire King. I sat down at my desk and started working. My eyes slid to the corner of my desk and I froze. The fairy Queen’s letter. I could finally open it. I stood and stared at it for several seconds. It’s strange. I thought I’d tear it open, but now that the possibility was there. I was terrified to open it. I reached for it and it flew away. Ted came into my office. “Why are you chasing that enchanted fairy letter around your office?” I said, “I can open it now.” Ted said, “No you can’t. It’s not December.” I said, “I thought Haley said I could open it after Thanksgiving.” Ted said, “That’s for our meeting with the Vampires, Susanna, and Haley tonight. Don’t you worry Lex. I have a calendar reminder for Wednesday when you can in fact open the letter. I sighed, “Let’s just get through the day.” Everything flew by. Before I knew it, Haley had popped in. She hugged me as Robert and King Arthur walked in. She hugged King Arthur. Ted mouthed, “Brave Fairy.” Blade stepped forward and Ted jumped. “Is close. Stay.” Blade said looking at Robert.” Haley said, “Blade, Robert has the chance to kill me and taste my blood several times. He never did. I’ve never thanked you for helping me during my imprisonment, but I really appreciate it Robert.” Robert nodded. Blade said, “Stay.” Robert nodded to him, “I won’t get any closer. You needn't worry. I have my Susanna.” Blade said, “Is job. Worry. Princess is fairy. You Vampire. You step towards princess...You die.” Robert rolled his eyes, “Fine.” King Arthur said, “First things first. You need to get an apartment Lass.” He put out several listings in the area he’d printed out onto my desk. I stared up at him in shock, “Huh?” He got a glint in his eyes, and I knew that whatever plan they’d come up with…. Was sneaky and exactly what we needed.
