Project Get a Clue Pt. 1

Lexi hugged all of Chase’s family as they came to her. I smiled at Susie when she said she knew I’d be fine because I was super fast. That was so cute and childlike. She wasn’t wrong though. I was fast. Ted hugged me, “You’ve got to stop doing this to me. I don’t know why I waste my breath telling you this though. You’re just going to run off and do it to me all over again.” Sally smiled as she hugged me. She whispered, “They’ll get over it.” I smiled, “Thanks Sally.” Sally and Nadine ran off to the kitchen and started bringing out the food. I would have helped them except Chase had a vice grip on my waist. I sighed. He needed me close right now, and I couldn’t blame him. So, I would stay close to him. We all sat down and started talking. We laughed and talked for hours. It was the kind of large gathering Heath and I always wanted to have as kids with family. I wished I would’ve invited him. He would’ve loved it. Chase kept one hand on my thigh throughout the entire time we sat at the table. It was like he was afraid if he wasn’t touching me then I wouldn’t really be here. Nadine stood and tilted her head towards the kitchen. All the girls stood and followed her into the kitchen. She had a bunch of ingredients sitting on the island. Nadine smiled, “Alright ladies. This is my special we clean up and enjoy ourselves cocktail. I looked at all the ingredients laid out. She had Apple Cider, Pumpkin Pie Spice, Red Apples, Oranges, ginger Ale, Cranberries, and Champagne. I smiled over at Sally who looked a little pale when Nadine handed her to her. I took out my phone.               Me: You ok?             Sally: I need you to drink mine   I glanced up at her startled. Then my face broke into a broad grin. There was only one reason for that.             Me: Is that so?             Sally: ;) Yes             Me: Because…. Sally: I’m pregnant. Haley told me when she popped into ask about her pie recipe, she googled   I snorted out loud, and everyone looked over. I said, “My brother thinks he’s funny.” Sally bit her lip. Nadine handed me my drink. I walked over and stood next to Sally. When no one was looking I quickly drank half my drink and passed it to her. She smiled at me and I started sipping on her drink.             Nadine said, “So, Lexi. Are you moving in here anytime soon?” I shrugged, “We will see.” Nadine simply nodded and said, “Sally?” Sally smiled, “Derrick wants us to stay in my place until Noah is caught. He doesn’t want him to be able to get to me, and I told him I didn’t want to endanger anyone in the pack house.” Nadine took her hands, “Hey, we are a pack. We protect our own. If you and Derrick wanted to live on the grounds here, then we WILL protect you.” I smiled. Sally turned red. Reagan said, “Heck yes they would. My parents went to our little sister for Thanksgiving this year, but when they get here, they would tell you the same thing.” Sally smiled, “Yes, they said they would be here in time for dessert.” I took out my phone and texted Sally again.               Me: Does Derrick know about the baby?             Sally: Not yet. I’m going to put a binky into his piece of pie             Me: That’s so you             Sally: Thank you. I’m so happy.             Me: I’m so happy for you. This is how it should’ve been for you all along.   Sally smiled at me, but she didn’t reply. Susie came over to me. “Can we have another play date?” I smiled, “Of course. Name the time and place.” Susie smiled, “Well, I play with the other kids now, but you could come play with us again. Everyone wants to see you.” I laughed, “Do they?” Susie nodded, “Everyone knows you’re our Luna.” I sighed, “Everyone?” Susie nodded, “Yup! The whole pack has it figured out.” I sighed. Reagan coughed, “Worst kept secret ever.” I stuck my tongue out of her as everyone laughed. Nadine gave Sally another drink. I sighed. Everyone turned back around. I slammed the rest of Sally’s first drink. I drank half of mine and took her new one. Sally mouthed, “Thank you.” I nodded. I turned and caught Reagan biting back her laugh. Sally mouthed, “She knows.” I raised an eyebrow. She could’ve been helping me then. I wasn’t even close to tipsy, but Nadine made her drinks strong.              Reagan said, “So, Alpha Conners Beta called. Apparently, Haley was in a great deal of pain. He was preparing allies to go after her and her friend.” Sally said, “They didn’t say what friend she was with.” I actually wished Beta Caleb had told them it was the Black Arrow. Then Chase would know my moniker, and I wouldn't have told him. He would’ve figured it out all on his own, and Heath couldn’t get upset about that. I said, “There were some complications and an explosion… that we set, but ya know still throws you against the wall.” Everyone gaped at me. Isabella wandered into the living room with the guys after she’d finished her drink. Reagan cleared her throat, “So Sally’s marked, Ted’s marked…. I say it’s high time Lexi gets marked.” I turned red. I whispered, “Bolt and I talked about it.” Reagan raised an eyebrow along with everyone else. Nadine said, “And?” I shrugged, “We are going to work on Chase.” Nadine laughed, “Oh just get him in the throes of passion and tell him to mark you. His Alpha blood will demand he claim you.” Sally said, “You’d seal the deal if someone flirted with you before you were in the throes of passion.” Nadine spit out her drink. Reagan laughed, “They hang out with fairies Nadine.” Nadine managed, “That would… absolutely work.” I smirked, “I’ll keep that in mind.” Nadine said, “As long as you’re prepared for it to work in ways you cannot even manage. Alphas are possessive, and someone flirting with you…. Chase… he would absolutely mark you if you asked. He might do it if you don’t ask if someone else was flirting. After he killed them.” Susie laughed, “We need a name for this! Let’s call it Project Mischief.” I laughed, “Why not?” Sally squealed, “YES! Another project. What’s our goal?”          I glanced back towards the living room. No one was paying attention to us. “Chase is taking me on a getaway. I was aiming for then.” All the girls nodded. Nadine smiled, “We can plant the seeds too. Frank will be THRILLED. He’ll help us and keep it quiet.” Reagan said, “Yes we can manage that. Lexi you and I will go out for a girl’s night again. I’ll tell Cameron about all the guys that flirted with you. He WILL tell Chase. Oh it’s already too good.” I said, “They’d have to actually flirt with me though. Kincade and Kevin would be around.” Reagan smiled, “We will go to Alpha Conners territory. Chase’s guys can’t do anything about it there other than report back.” Nadine said, “The whole lot of you girls have been hanging out with fairies. I need to get myself a fairy friend. I would’ve never even thought to try any of this. Susie, you’ve aptly named this project mischief. Reagan, you know this going to drive Chase crazy.” Reagan shrugged, “Love him like a brother, but he needs a push. I am more than happy to be that push with the help of our cohorts in project mischief.” Sally laughed, “Alpha Chase won’t know what hit him.” We all toasted clinking glasses. After that we set down our drinks, and we all filed into the living room. Derrick’s parents had just walked in, and Sally beamed at them. I was so happy for her. Her relationship with Noah’s parents was strained at best. His mom had always thought I was his string, and she was NOT good with change. She should’ve blamed Noah, but she was just ambivalent towards Sally. Edgar was just Edgar. I shared a look with Ted. I knew he felt the same way. I sighed again wishing Sally had never been Noah’s string. Any other family would’ve welcomed Sally with open arms. She was everything anyone in the Hood wanted for a daughter in law. She got such a bad hand with Noah. Thankfully, that had been corrected. Now she was so loved here.          Sally pulled back from their hug. She said she had to get the pie. I was so excited for her I couldn’t contain my grin. I said I’d help her because I knew she was a little nervous about telling Derrick and his family. They would all be thrilled though. We both got up, and I turned to Ted in surprise. He was just sitting there. We both said his name at the same time. He rolled his eyes and sighed at us but followed us into the kitchen. Ted whispered, “Why do I have to help pass out pie? OHHH… are we going to use our speed to quickly get everyone their pie?” I said, “Well, we can do that too.” Sally went over to her purse she’d left on the counter and pulled out a binky. She waved it in front of Ted. Ted’s eyes went wide, and he squealed. Both Sally and I slapped Ted on his arm. I peeked out and Matt was already standing. Ted sighed. He whispered, “I’ll take care of it.” We both nodded. Matt sat down, but he didn’t look happy about it.” Sally started putting pie on plates. Ted and I zipped around the room passing out pie. Sally carefully stuck the binky into Derrick’s slice and carried out hers and Derrick’s plates. Ted and I snagged our own plates and sat down beside our significant others. Everyone started tearing into their pie. Ted and I were anxiously watching Derrick. Derrick took the smallest bite known to man. He missed the binky but exposed it to anyone who looked at his plate. I glanced at Chase and saw his shock when he noticed. I couldn’t help but think of telling him about our child one day. Derrick complimented Sally on the pie, and she just smiled at him. Derrick stuck his fork back into his pie. I briefly considered how funny it would be if he tried to put a bite into his mouth and ended up sucking on a binky. He noticed the resistance on his fork though and pulled the binky out.          He dropped his plate. He looked almost scared to hope as if it was some prank, but he quickly lit up when Sally told him she was pregnant. I immediately left my seat. Ted was right behind me. We hugged Sally. Ted asked, “Have you told your parents Sally? They will be thrilled!” Sally smiled, “I’ll tell them. We haven’t…. I haven’t spoken to them since I rejected Noah. I didn’t want them to be disappointed in me. They don’t know about Derrick yet.” I immediately said, “Sally no. They will be so proud of you. Now they will just be thrilled.” Sally bit her lip, “I don’t want Noah’s parents to find out. He’d be…. vicious about this.” I said, “Your parents can keep a secret, but you do what you need to. You feeling safe with your little one is what’s important. Your parents will understand when you do decide to tell them.” Sally shrugged, “We will see. I know my mom would be jumping for joy. I just… I need to protect my baby.” I nodded, “Of course you do.” We joined everyone else’s conversation. Sally said she and Derrick would be the trial couple for a baby with a werewolf. A twinge of sadness hit me. I thought that it would be Chase and I. Susie stunned the room asking Chase and I when we were having a baby. Chase immediately knelt down and told Susie we hadn’t talked about it yet. We had. I’d said a few years, but...I looked over at Sally and Derrick who were wrapped around each other. I looked at Ted who smirked at me with a knowing grin. I wanted our kids to be close in age. I wanted a kid. Holy s**t. I wanted a kid now. Where the HELL did that come from? I looked around the room quickly masking my expression when I saw both Matt and Nadine staring at me.          Chase glanced back at me a moment later. He quickly turned and I shot Matt a glare. I wished I could link him so I could tell him not to be a tattletale. Ted grabbed Matt’s hand and squeezed it while I shot daggers at Matt with my eyes. Susie quickly moved on to get another sibling. I saw the light in both Frank and Nadine’s eyes. Something told me they might just try. Heaven help us all if it’s another little girl. She’s already got super protective brothers. Sally and Derrick were the first to leave. Not even bothering to hide what they were leaving to go do. They’d been all over each other from the moment she’d announced her pregnancy. Cameron and Reagan left next. I excused myself to go to the restroom. I splashed some water on my face and stepped out. Ted was leaning against the wall. “I saw that look, Lexi Scott.” I hissed, “Not here. Their hearing is too good.” Ted said, “Your place tomorrow morning. Bright and early.” I rolled my eyes, “Fine.” When I got back out to the living most everyone else had left. Chase asked where I wanted to stay for the night. Ted winked at me as he and Matt left last. I told Chase we could just stay here. Ted wanted to meet at my place, and I wasn’t about to have that conversation where Chase could hear it. Ted was going to squeal and say I told you so at the top of his lungs. Once we got upstairs, I went to lay on the bed, but Chase quickly pulled me back to his side.         He told me I was going to take years off his life. As if. He was an Alpha. If Ted hadn’t been here, Chase would’ve just known I was late. He’d have worried, but he wouldn’t have panicked. Years was an exaggeration. I changed the subject to Derrick and Sally. I wanted to gauge his reaction. He’d clearly caught on that I’d known Sally was pregnant, so I explained she told me in the kitchen. Chase was laughing about Ted squealing saying he wasn’t used to werewolf hearing. I wanted to laugh. It wouldn’t matter when Matt and Ted were old and gray. Ted would still be Ted squealing about gossip. I took a deep breath. I wanted to ask Chase if he’d be open to having a baby sooner. I kept losing my nerve. Chase asked what was bothering me. I shrugged. I told him I was just thinking. What I didn’t say was, I’m thinking about a little boy who looks just like you. Or a little girl with my hair and his eyes. I sucked it up and asked Chase if a few years was too long. On the other hand, we were young, and we had plenty of time…. Chase cut off my thoughts by kissing me. I could feel his smile against my lips. He said whenever I wanted to try was fine. I sighed. Does he mean that? What about his… situation? God…. I might have to actually ask someone what it is. I shook myself. No, I still didn’t want to know. He said his situation would be dealt with soon, and that Haley was determined to make it even sooner. Of course she was. She probably googled double dates.          Chase said Haley cursed her ass off when saying this situation would be resolved sooner.  I asked why the later date didn’t work for Haley. I was curious if he asked her. I obviously couldn’t…. Or could I? I could ask her about my string. I wanted to roll my eyes at Chase when he said I was why that didn’t work for Haley. He didn’t ask her. Or he did, and she didn’t answer him. He said Haley wanted me to be happy. I was happier than I’d ever been. I straddled him, and we made love well into the morning. I couldn’t bring myself to regret that I’d be getting up to meet Ted soon. My eyes snapped open a few hours later. I quickly dressed in Chase’s hoodie and his sweatpants. I wrote him a note so he wouldn't worry. Who knows how long Ted was going to want to talk. I quietly closed the door. I saw Chase’s arm reach out and grab my pillow. I smiled. He was so cute. I ran down the stairs and out of the house. I ran over to my place. Ted wasn’t there yet. Since I had time I walked over to my safe. I grabbed my calling card arrow necklaces. I quickly coded them and turned on their GPS tracking. One for Susie, one for Reagan, and one for Nadine. None of the guys seemed like necklace wearers. I’d have to come up with something for them.          Ted snorted from behind me. He said, “I was wondering when you were going to pass those out.” I smiled and hit the secret button on my panels. I grabbed my Black Arrow gear, and quickly put it on. I said, “I thought I’d pass them out today.” Ted raised an eyebrow, “With Chase wondering where you are? Could you possibly want him to figure out your moniker Lexi?” I said, “I would. I don’t like hiding it from him. I can’t tell him because we aren’t official. Heath and Chase have some weird thing going on right now. I know Heath would laugh at me and say no if I asked for permission to tell Chase.” Ted sighed, “What is their deal?” I shrugged, “I don’t know. Hey… I keep meaning to ask. What do you know about Alpha Sophia?” Ted stiffened, “Don’t talk to me about that b***h!” My eyes widened, “You don’t like her?” Ted hissed, “She is on my s**t list.” I nodded, “Alrighty then.” Ted shook himself. He said, “Let’s move onto that look you had last night.” I sighed, “What about it?” Ted said, “Girl...don’t play with TeleTed.” I said, “I want to have a baby with Chase.” Ted said, “When?” I stuck my tongue out, “Soon. I guess.” Ted squealed like a teenage girl at a One Direction concert. “YES GIRL! Our kids have to be best friends! We will have to have them all the same time. They can be a few months apart like us, but that’s it. OHHH This is perfect!” I said, “Part of me wonders if we should wait until all this Noah stuff is behind us. Or until Heath and Chase get over their issues.” Ted said, “Girl, you do not put off the things that are important to you because life gets in the way. You’d never do anything because someone would always be coming up. Anyway, from my research it likely won’t happen until you're marked. Then you have to go off birth control.” I said, “Research?” Ted nodded, “I asked Haley to look into it for Sally.” I said, “And?” Ted said, “The wolves mated with humans, who mirror us reproductively, don’t get pregnant until after they are marked. Birth Control or not.” I said, “We don’t mirror humans. They are pregnant for nine months.” Ted rolled his eyes, “But we don’t have heat, or a concupiscence like fairy’s. We are like humans who ovulate. So we need to get on Chase marking you. Then it’s baby time.”          I laughed. I couldn’t help it. Ted said, “What?” I said, “You’re a day late and a dollar short to that party. Susie already has a project name for it. I guess I just start trying when you, Matt, and Joanie do your first IUI.” Ted said, “GIRL! Read me into Susie’s project! YES! I love everything about this plan. Our kids will be SO CLOSE together.” I laughed, “It’s called Project Mischief.  We are going to get Chase’s possessive juices flowing. Reagan and I are going into Alpha Conners territory for a girl’s night. I’m going to let guys flirt with me so that Reagan, Kincade, and Kevin report that back to Chase. Then on our getaway he has planned, I’m going to somehow find a way to let someone flirt with me in front of him. I’ll get him to take me home and when he’s claiming me; I’ll ask him to mark me.” Ted laughed, “I think you could just ask him. He’s already denying himself.” I said, “I probably will. I doubt I’d be able to even look at a guy while I’m out with Chase.” Ted shrugged, “The rest is easy...People flirt with you all the time Lexi.” I said, “All the time is a bit of an overstatement, but I do alright.” Ted snorted, “You do more than alright, but ok.” I laughed, “It’s weird.” Ted said, “But it’s all perfect. You, me, and Sally all together. She’s so loved here. I hated seeing her with the troll’s family. Everyone did. They didn’t deserve her. She was several classes above them.” I said, “His mom isn’t that bad.” Ted said, “She’s the ONLY one. Well… Nathan’s ok. Denise wasn’t happy about Sally though. She wanted you. Everyone thought it was you and Noah forever.” I raised an eyebrow, “You didn’t.” Ted said, “Hell no I didn’t. You are a star, and he’s merely a dandelion. A star and dandelion don’t belong together.”          I stood and made us a quick breakfast. We both ate quickly. I said, “Go get back Ted. I’m going to run the territory.” Ted said, “Damn… you really are just trying to get around the whole asking for permission to tell Chase you’re the Black Arrow.” I sighed, “If only you could just tell Matt.” Ted laughed, “You haven’t met him as BA. Nor have you met Chase.” I said, “I would think Chase could tell in person that I’m the Black Arrow. Through the phone and video chat though…. not so much.” Ted said, “Go run around trying to let out your big secret.” I said, “Hey, Heath couldn’t get mad this way.” Ted said, “Oh please. Yes, he could and would. He would know that was your intent.” I said, “That’s true. BUT if I don’t tell Chase…. I’m not breaking the rules.” Ted rolled his eyes, “Go on with your loopholes.” I laughed. He dashed back to his house with Matt, and I took off running the border. I wasn’t very far from the main house when I saw two men laying on the ground. I closed my eyes hoping they were alright. I was shocked when I got close enough to them to see who it was. It was Frank and Isaac. Both were bleeding. I heard wolves snarling in the distance. It was an attack. I hauled both Frank and Isaac up. I put one on each shoulder. I raised my face to the sky, “Thank you war goddess for making us super strong or this would be a trip and a half. I ran as fast as I could with both of them. The same doctor I’d seen last time I’d brought Frank in was running through the halls. He was yelling at everyone to be ready for patients. He turned when someone pointed at me. His eyes widened as he said, “Is the Black Arrow this pack’s guardian angel? Or… are you Alpha Frank’s guardian angel?”          I snorted and put Isaac and Frank down on the gurney’s they had. “I found them unconscious. I don’t know what happened.” The doctor frowned, “We are under attack.” I froze. “Who’s attacking?” The doctor said, “Rogues.” He stiffed, “Nadine is hurt! EVERYONE GET READY!” I took off. I figured Nadine would be at the house. I saw a wolf about to go for her throat. Her legs were broken, and she’d shifted back from her wolf in pain. I aimed my arrow and sunk it through the wolf’s heart that was about to rip open her throat. He quickly shifted back to human form dead.
