Worried Pt. 4

      e I shifted and took off. Matt linked, “Ted said the Black Arrow found your dad. He’s fine Chase. She brought him to the pack hospital. Nadine is with him.” I linked my dad, “DAD!” He replied, “Chase? Are you ok? The Black Arrow said Lexi is fine.” I felt more settled. “Are you ok?” He said, “I’m fine son. Are you ok?” I said, “I’m fine. I’m coming.” My heart was beating regularly again.  My dad said, “The Black Arrow is running our border.” I said, “I’ll thank her if I see her, but I’m not waiting around. I’m coming to you.” I pushed Bolt. I linked Cameron, “The Black Arrow found dad. He’s linking me. Seems fine.” Cameron said, “We will be there as soon as we can be.” I said, “I know.” I shifted. Ted was standing there with another Romeo costume. I couldn’t stop my laugh. I threw it on. He led me to where my dad was. I stood outside the room for a second. I spoke to no one in particular, “He looks good.” Ted said, “Took on a witches spell. According to my super sleuthing he and one of our guys took on a group of rogues and witches. Twelve of them. BA stumbled upon them at the end. Just as your dad went down unable to take on any more pain. My guy said he took on three different spells. He’s in a great deal of pain. Refusing pain meds until he sees you and Lexi.” I rolled my eyes, “Stubborn old man.” Matt handed me my phone. I texted Lexi. I needed to see her.

        I walked into the room. Trying to fight back my tears, “Dad?” My dad whipped his head to me and winced. “You look good son.” I said, “What were you doing?” My dad said, “Running the border just checking.” Nadine growled, “You said you were going for a run!” I said, “We don’t run border patrols alone.” My dad said, “I know Chase.” I walked in and hugged him. “Don’t scare me like that again dad.” My dad choked out, “I didn’t mean to scare you son.” I said, “I can’t lose you dad.” I pulled back. Nadine said, “What Chase said.” Bolt said, “Mate is here.” Nadine said, “Will you take the pain meds now Frank?” My dad said, “Not until we see Lexi.” I said, “She’s here. I’ll be back.” I ran. I heard her before I saw her. Everything in me settled. Everything was ok. She was here. She didn’t even have a scratch, and I knew she hadn’t seen Haley. I pulled her into an empty room. I breathe her in. She did the same. I didn't realize I was crying until she was consoling me. Everything hit me all at once. My dad could’ve died. Lexi was off doing goddess know what. I told her I needed her to thank her people for me. Whoever fought with my dad had my gratitude along with the Black Arrow. I couldn’t believe my dad had done something so dumb. It wasn’t like him. Lexi teased me about my costume. I told her Ted was in charge of the costumes. She asked how everything went for me. I told her she was right about Haley. I told her the only ones left were witches that had gotten away. She wasn’t worried. I wondered if the Hood had plans for the coven. She pulled me back into a hug.

        I rubbed her back and was stunned when she started crying. She managed to tell me she’d gotten word a black wolf was down in my territory. I wanted to wince. I couldn’t imagine, and I didn't want to. My poor sweetheart. She told me her heart stopped. I’m sure it did. Mine would’ve before I went into a murderous rage. I didn’t handle her getting shot well at all, and I knew it was her. If I knew she COULD be hurt, I’d be a wreck. She told me I couldn’t leave her. I‘d never leave her if I could help it. I put my nose on hers. I looked her in the eyes and told her she was stuck with me. Matt linked me, “Your old man and mine may come to blows if you don’t get back up here.” I told Lexi my dad was refusing to take pain meds until he saw her. I could see the confusion in her eyes. She didn’t understand. I sighed. He’d put two and two together. He wanted to repair the damage he’d done with her. We walked into my dad’s room. He was visibly relaxed when he saw us both. He linked me, “I’d never want you to go through what I did Chase. I’m glad she’s ok.” My dad spoke saying I was worried. I was not alone in my eye roll. I was worried but he could admit he was too. Nadine gave my dad crap. I smiled. I was so glad he’d found her. Isaac was even upset. I looked at him. He linked me, “We could’ve lost him. You know, that right?” I linked back, “I do. Stubborn old man.” Isaac said, “End this with him Chase. I know you have a right to be upset but stop shutting him out.” I said, “I plan to.” Isaac nodded, “Good.” Ted and my dad spoke back and forth about the hood. My dad looked at Lexi and told her to take care of me. She promised and asked him to take pain medicine. He finally agreed. We all breathed a sigh of relief. Lexi and Ted stepped out.

        Matt said, “They came at Sophia’s pack HARD Chase. The Black Arrow was around because she was fighting WITH the hood.” I said, “Why would Hammond care THAT much about Sophia.” Matt said, “I don’t think he would. I think he focused on Cameron’s pack.” I said, “Then who is coming for Sophia?” Matt said, “I don’t know.” I sighed, “Great.” My dad fell asleep, and I walked out to take Lexi home. Ted told Lexi he knew that Hood knew these attacks were coming. I had to agree with him. I rook Lexi’s hand and Ted told her they would be talking. I stepped outside and Kevin and Kincade had changed out of their costumes. They were visibly relieved to see Lexi in person. Kincade linked, “We’d heard she was ok, but we wanted to see her ourselves.” I nodded understanding. I told them I had her tomorrow. We walked towards her place. Tonight was one of those nights I wished I could just take her up to our room here. I told her what happened with my dad. She might be one of the only people I could tell her how scared I was to get word about my dad. I asked her if she was one of the people that had protected Cameron’s pack. She claimed she wasn’t. I sighed. Then where the hell was, she tonight? Was she guarding Alpha Kyle’s border? Is that why she was in the area briefly? She confirmed that no one thought we’d be attacked. She said their man here was a precaution. 

        I smelled an unfamiliar smell in the area. I had Lexi behind me in a flash. I linked Matt, Kevin, and Kincade, “GET HERE NOW!” They all replied they were on the way. They got here faster than I thought they would, Matt linked, “We were almost back to our place.” Kevin said, “We were doing a perimeter sweep.” I said, “See if you can track down the new scent.” I explained to Lexi as they scoured the area. Nothing. They were gone. Lexi pointed out they didn’t trip Haley’s booby traps. So someone was here that didn’t mean her harm. Matt handed me a letter. He linked me, “This was on the outside of her barrier.” I handed it to Lexi. My eyes widened as I read it. “It’s a warning supposedly from a member from her family. Get Ted here.” He nodded. Lexi fainted. “f**k!” I swore and caught her before she hit the ground. Ted ran up, “What’s going on? LEXI! Is she hurt?” I shook my head and gave him the note. He gaped, “We need to call Heath.” He stepped away. Lexi still hadn’t come around. Heath showed up and held his hand out for the note. He frowned. “I’ll keep looking. If they can find us why the HELL aren’t they saying anything.” He kissed Lexi’s forehead. “You’ve got her right?” I said, “I do.” He nodded, “Good.” He took off. I told everyone, “Go home. I’ve got her. Ted, Matt be on standby. I’ll link Matt when she comes to.” Ted reluctantly left. I took Lexi upstairs to wait for her to open her beautiful eyes.
