Truth Comes Out Pt. 3

        Lexi said, “Are you ok?” I sighed, “Did you hear what he said?” Lexi said, “No, I didn’t. You all have super hearing not me. Susie seemed very upset that I would leave you guys though. You can’t think because someone else’s Beta doesn’t like me that I’d leave. Susie seemed to think he said something about me. Is he the only one not in on the secret that I’m your mate?” I hissed, “He is. He thinks you’re my girlfriend.” Lexi said, “Why doesn’t he like you?” I said, “Thinks are tense between his Alpha and myself right now. He seems to want to take that out on me.” Lexi nodded, “From what Susie told me. You and Kincade put a whooping on him.” I was startled, “How did she know that?” Lexi shrugged, “Something called the pack link.” I laughed, “Of course. You’ll be able to do that too once you’re marked. I’ll accept you into the pack, and you’ll be able to link all of them. At first it will just be me though.” She smiled. She dragged me to bed. “Come on. I think we need some sleep.” I said, “That’s all you're going to ask about that ordeal?” Lexi laughed, “I grew up with the Hood himself Chase. I know there are things you can’t tell me. I just ask that you don’t lie to me. If you can’t answer my question, simply say you can’t answer. If you want to talk about what your deal with Alfred is…. I’m all ears.” I said, “He's using you to get under my skin.” Lexi said, “Do you let him because I’m not marked?” I sighed, “Partially. Partially because I can’t deal with his disrespect towards you. You are my mate. He should give you the respect that comes with that.”

        Lexi said, “He doesn’t know that though.” I said, “Don’t be on his side.” Lexi smiled, “I’m on your side. Always. I’m just saying. He doesn’t actually know he’s disrespecting your mate.” I said, “He’s been warned before. He should know better than to push me. I’m stronger than him, and I do not deal with disrespect for my people or those I care about.” Lexi said, “Ok. Come on. Let’s just put today behind us. A lot was thrown at you today. Susanna told me the Vampire King and her string came by too. Just get over here and hold me.” I laughed. “Yes ma’am.” Lexi pushed me, “Did you just call me ma’am?” I said, “I take that back. Yes sweetheart.” Lexi nodded, “Acceptable.” I held her to me. I pulled her a little tighter than normal. I couldn’t lose her to Noah or to the fact that I’m a married man. I knew Sophia was doing what was right for her. I think maybe it was time I took steps to do what was right for me. Maybe I should have Matt draw up divorce papers. I’d tell Sophia at Haley’s meeting that she had to sign one of them. A court would force her to respond with a divorce though once I filed. It wasn’t what I wanted, but just as Sophia was; I had to do what was best for me. I couldn’t let this drag on, and maybe Sophia just didn’t realize how serious I was about wanting out. She wasn’t listening to my words, so maybe my actions would let her know I was serious. I’d been nice about this far too long. Haley Conners was right. Being nice wasn’t getting her or myself anywhere, and I’d been being nice much longer than she had. It was time to let Sophia know how serious I was. The gloves were coming off.

        The next day when I told Matt about everything I had planned. To say he and Derrick were stunned would be understatement. “You want me to get your divorce papers. You didn’t want a divorce.” I said, “I don’t. I want an annulment, but I have to do this for me. Sophia walked back on her word, and I’ve let it go for far too long. At least if I’m filing for divorce…. I’m trying to do what’s right for me and Lexi. I’m giving her until Haley’s meeting. If she’s resistant, then I’ll tell her I’m filing.” He agreed to get everything ready for the meeting at the Conners. He said that would be easy for him to pull together. When we wrapped up for the day Matt said, “Ted said Lexi went home early. He’s worried.” I nodded. I shifted and ran to her house. Lexi was dancing around in her underwear with a drink in her hand. She smiled when she saw me, “Uh oh sir! You just missed the fairy princess. That was a close one. Could’ve spilled all the beans.” I said, “I think someone needs some water.” Lexi said, “So many mysteries surround my life Chase. You are one but that’s my choice not to know. Now I’ve got the former fairy queen throwing mysteries and more questions with very few answers into my life.” I said, “Huh?” Lexi said, “She wrote me a letter. I don’t want to talk about it. Haley and I have talked about it. I’m talked out.” her eyes were closing. I said, “Are you going to pass out? How much do you have to drink for that?” Lexi collapsed. I ran to her and caught her before she hit the floor. I cursed. I linked Ted, “How much does a Hood member have to drink to pass out? Do I need to get her to the hospital?” Ted said, “I’m almost to her place.” I said, “Doesn't answer my question.” Ted ran in. He looked at Lexi, “She’ll be fine. Just get her in bed.” I said, “This is not fine.” Ted said, “Full blooded fairies suck?” I snorted, “True.” I got Lexi in bed. I answered emails from my phone and made sure she was ok. I got into bed with her and closed my eyes.

        When we woke up, she didn’t want to talk about it until our getaway. I agreed. It was driving me crazy. I wanted to know, but Lexi needed some time. We’d spent the night at her apartment a few times. Neither of us were relaxed afterwards. It was not a good night's rest. Matt despised the days we’d stayed there. Matt told me we needed to send a gift for Luna Emmaline’s birthday. On the day of Lexi disappeared for a bit. I knew she must have shown up. They were friends. Ted told me she had a quick mission to complete. I sighed. Ted told me it came up after she left. About a week after Luna Emmaline’s birthday I took Lexi on a date. We were out at my restaurant and I'd closed it down. We were halfway through dinner when my phone rang. I sighed, “Matt, my link is blocked for a reason. I wanted to take Lexi out on a date before our getaway. We are leaving in a few days. I’m going to be busy until then. I specifically told you not to bother me.” Matt said, “Alpha Lyons mate and his sister, Beta Dylan’s mate, have been kidnapped.” I said, “f**k! Alright where are we going?” Matt said, “They are heading to California. I think. Beta Caleb wasn’t sure on the details yet. We need to send men to our allies to protect their borders.” I said, “Done. Cameron will help as well….” I trailed off when Lexi’s phone made a horrible sound. She paled and pulled it out. She closed her eyes. She said, “Chase, I have to go. I don’t know when I’ll be back.” I stood, “What’s happening? Is that about Luna Emmaline?” Lexi smiled, “How about I leave my phone here while I go to the restroom because I can’t answer that.” Lexi set her phone done and zipped away. I could just see there was a dot blinking in California.

        I said, “Lexi has been called to California.” Matt said, “You do realize we will know her moniker for sure then if that’s where Alpha Conners is going. Beta Dylan will have a detailed report out as soon as he gets back.” Lexi zipped back in the room. She kissed me. She said, “I’ll try to keep you updated. I don’t know when I’ll be back.” I said, “The plane won’t leave without you.” Lexi smiled, “I love you Chase.” She took off. I walked outside and got in my car feeling hollow. Everything hurt. I wouldn’t know if she was ok. I called Matt, “Tell Alpha Conners I’ll go with him.” Matt said, “They are in Nashville.” I groaned, “I forgot they had that meeting.” Matt said, “We sent warriors out to Red Run, they were attacked. Cameron is waiting here.” I sighed. Ted zoomed out to my car, “She got a call, didn’t she? DAMN IT!” He ran back into the house. I followed him in. He was eating a tub of ice cream. Ted looked, “Want to stress eat with me? I knew she got a call. My mom said that someone called the fairy liaison. I just KNEW it was Lexi.” I said, “Seems like she’s helping our allies out.” Ted said, “Allies…. she...oh god...she’s gone after Luna Emmaline? She’s going where that psycho warlock is?! I’ve heard about him, he's a maniac! I do not have enough ice cream!” He dashed off to the kitchen. I stalked into my office. “Psycho WARLOCK?!” Matt winced, “David Forrester.” I closed my eyes. “Derrick get Sally over here. I want her and Ted here in the same place in case Lexi contacts one of us first.” Derrick nodded. My dad said, “She’ll be alright son. She will come back.” I said, “Matt, let’s get to work.” I barely slept. I couldn’t eat. None of us had heard from Lexi. I said, “Ted, have you heard from Heath?” Ted said, “He said everything is fine.” Matt’s phone rang. He winced and walked away. He walked outside then came back. “Chase, we need to talk in your office.” Ted said, “Oh god! Is she hurt? She’s hurt isn’t she. GOD, I HATE WARLOCKS! Let’s just agree with Haley. They have to go!” Matt said, “No, there were no injuries on our side. Luna Emmaline has not been recovered yet though.” Ted sighed in relief. I walked into my office with Derrick behind me. Matt linked us both, “One of you shut the door.” Derrick closed the door. I said, “Is she hurt?” Matt said, “No, and the group is on their way to Russia.” 

        My eyes went wide, “RUSSIA? Lexi went to Russia?!” Matt said, “In a manner of speaking. I know what King Arthur and Robert were talking about when they were here; about keeping Haley on our side.” I said, “How is that relevant?” Matt said, “Through a very long explanation Luna Emmaline was holo ported to Russia. Alpha Conners children can get to her. Haley was very upset and called her fairy brother to send her to them.” I said, “She couldn't pop because?” Matt said, “Iron based protection guarding Emmaline. Apparently the Holloran family is some very powerful prophecy family the fairies have been waiting for. It includes all of them, but King Aiden and Haley are the keys. Luna Emmaline and Bexley are important too. Bexley was made royal by King Aiden.” I said, “Ok….so we keep her as a friend. Do we care about some fairy prophecy?” Matt said, “Since people will come for Haley and Luna Emmaline, and they are our allies Luna’s. We do.” I sighed, “And Lexi is friends with both of them.” Matt said, “Which leads me to the hood member that’s on the team trying to rescue Luna Emmaline.” I said, “You know who she is?” Matt nodded, “I do.” He said nothing. I looked at Derrick then back to Matt, “Who is she?” Matt took a deep breath, “She’s the Black Arrow Chase. You’ve been dreaming about your own damn mate and feeling guilty about it.” Derrick and Matt burst into laughter as I sat down in the chair trying to absorb that information.
