Surprise Attack Pt. 2

        I told Cameron, “The Conners went home.” Cameron nodded and we shifted and ran back to the hospital. He ran in. I had to close my eyes at the sight of Reagan’s blood on the pillow. They were stitching up her head. Matt joined us. He bumped my arm. I looked at him and he pointed to Reagan’s neck. Dangling there was the same necklace Susie had. I linked Matt, “So let me get this straight. My mate is best friends with Haley Conners AND the f*****g Black Arrow? Now, the Black Arrow is hanging around and helping us out because of Lexi.” Matt linked, “Or because she feels a pull to you. Likely the Lexi thing though.” I punched Matt in the arm. He winced. Cameron looked up at us. Reagan slowly began to open her eyes. She sat straight up and winced. Cameron said, “Lay back down.” Reagan said, “We were under attack!” Cameron said, “So was Chase. They handled their rogues and came to help.” Reagan said, “I fought…. with the Black Arrow.” Cameron said, “We heard. I see she gave you her calling card.” Reagan’s hand went to her neck. “She must have put this on after the lights went out.” My phone rang. It was Heath. I said, “Hello.” Heath hissed, “I told you to protect her not let her get bitten by rouges!” I said, “WHAT? Where is she?” Heath said, “My home. Apparently, Haley isn’t home. She’ll be coming to me once she returns.” I said, “Let me talk to Lexi.” Heath said, “She’s passed out. I’m watching one of our healers stitch her up right now.” Bolt growled.

        I said, “We were attacked.” Heath said, “You don’t say!” I growled, “She was gone when I woke up. My sister was kidnapped, my father was missing, and my brother was attacked. I am still the Alpha of my pack Heath.” Heath said, “I know. Your family was saved by one of MY people Alpha Chase. I’m VERY aware of the damn situation.” Cameron and Reagan were both watching me as was Matt. I said, “You failed to mention the Black Arrow was close with Lexi.” Heath snorted, “The Black Arrow and Lexi are thick as thieves.” Matt linked me, “I’ve heard that before.” I said, “So I’ve been told.” Heath said, “Goodbye Alpha Chase.” I said, “Wait, Can I come and see Lexi?” Heath said, “Have you marked her? No, ok bye.” I growled, “I want to see her.” Heath said, “You’ll see her when you do, and it won’t be here.” With that he hung up. I threw my phone into the wall. Matt sighed. After a few moments, “I’d already sent Derrick back to our pack. He’s setting up your new phone.” Reagan laughed, “He still has a stash of phones?” Matt said, “He does.” I started to pace. Matt said, “I’ll send Ted to go see her with Joanie and Mark. Susie needs you right now Chase.” I nodded. “Cameron, are you alright?” Cameron nodded. Reagan said, “Susie? What happened to Susie?” She started to get up. Cameron said, “You will stay right there.” Susie said, “Excuse me?” Cameron said, “I won’t. You were hurt. Until your wolf has FULLY healed you. Your happy ass is going to stay in that bed.” Reagan crossed her arms, “What happened to Susie?” I said, “She was briefly kidnapped. Somehow someone got into the house.” Matt said, “It was Noah.” I said, “I’m going to need you to walk that back for me now.” Matt sighed, “Noah was at Sally’s house. He was waiting for the rogues to bring him Susie. The Black Arrow showed up, and he quickly left. The dead man we saw tied to a tree and…. brutally murdered was a warlock. The one who had Susie, and hurt Nadine.” 

            I said, “So... now the MOTHER f*****g DEAD PIECE OF s**t is trying to take my little sister?” Matt said, “Kevin has some prisoners. They are already talking. Kincade is apparently on another level today. He’s already back and questioning. Noah wanted Sally. He was going to use Susie to get her to come outside. Then give Susie over to the rogues to barter with you.” I said, “Bullfuckingshit! He would’ve taken them both! He wants Lexi and she’s mine, so he tried to take my little sister. f**k! He WOULD’VE Taken my little sister if not for the Black Arrow. Because I needed another reason to…” I trailed off. Reagan said, “Another reason to what?” Matt bit his lip. I said, “Nothing.” Reagan said, “I didn’t hit my head that hard Chase. Another reason to what?” I sighed and sat down in a chair. “Dream about her.” Reagan said, “I’m sorry. What now? You dream about the Black Arrow…. The girl your brother-in-law just described as thick as thieves with your mate.” Cameron was staring at me. Matt said, “We think the Black Arrow is Chase’s second chance mate. Because he hasn’t marked Lexi...their bond is…. growing.” Reagan threw a pillow at me. “MARK LEXI CHASE! I swear to GOD if you hurt her by cheating on her with her friend, I’ll …. Tell Haley Conners to do something awful to you! GOD really Chase? Sally is friends with Lexi! Lexi is friends with Haley. WHY do you want to make ALL my relationships complicated?” Cameron said nothing. 

        I decided to change the subject. I said, “Hey… who was the wolf fighting with Sophia?” Matt snorted, “You’ll love this. Her brother. His name is Tyson.” Everyone gaped, “Her what?” Sophia said, “My half-brother. Everyone, this is Tyson.” The man stuck his hand out to me. He looked me in the eye. “My sister says your Alpha Chase.” I nodded. He pulled me into a brief hug. “Thank you. I’m sure you've taken a lot of s**t for marrying my sister so she could keep her pack. Thank you, Alpha Chase. She’s smart as a whip and strong. She deserves to be the Alpha in her pack.” I said, “I’m confused.” Tyson laughed, “My mom used to be in Alpha Allister’s pack.” I said, “What’s your last name?” Tyson smiled, “I’m using a different one out here. I have ties to my sister’s pack. Ties I do not want to meet.” I said, “Wouldn’t your face give it away? You do look like Alpha Allister, but you have a few different features.” Tyson smiled, “I don’t look like my mother. Her eye color is what I got. Lots of people have Hazel eyes.” I said, “Why don’t you want to connect with your family?” Tyson said, “My mother’s side of the family is who I didn’t want to connect with. I didn’t know who my father was until recently. Then I reached out to Sophia. My mate and I are thinking of moving to her pack. I want to help Sophia any way I can. We both feel we’ve missed out on enough of each other’s lives. As it stands, I visit her when I can. We just happened to be having a picnic with my mate when we heard fighting. We came to assist.” Matt said, “You’re a good fighter.” Tyson smiled, “I hope to be the lead warrior in a pack one day.” 

        Sophia said, “Oh you will be! He’s such a good fighter Chase! Did you see him?” Sophia was glowing with pride. I said, “I didn’t get the chance to, but if Matt says he’s good then…. There’s no denying it.” I put it together, “This is who you were meeting for lunch the last time we spoke?” Sophia nodded. I linked her, “Does he know about your father?” She nodded. I said, “And?” Sophia said, “He didn’t know him, but Tyson wants to help to protect me.” I said, “You trust him?” She nodded, “I really do.” I said out loud, “It was good to meet you Tyson. I need to get back to my pack. Hopefully we can all have lunch sometime and get to know each other. Sophia has always been good friends with Cameron and I.” Matt linked, “Except the last few months.” I linked back, “If her brother is here to help her…. then maybe…. she will sign the papers.” Matt replied, “Hope springs eternal and all.” I nodded to them. I linked Cameron, “Let me know how she's doing.” Cameron snorted, “Please as soon as everything is secure…. we’ll be at your pack. I want to see Nadine, Dad, and Susie.” We shifted and ran back to our border. Derrick was already waiting and threw us shorts. He handed me my phone. “Sally and Ted went with their protection details to the shroud to see Lexi. We know they made it safely there and we haven’t heard from them about her.” I said, “Who has Susie then?” I heard my name, “CHASE!” I turned in time to see Susie before she barreled into me. Isabella was right there. Derrick said, “Isabella had her.” Susie clung to me. I linked Derrick, “Where’s Nadine?” Derrick said, “They just stabilized her legs. They’ve begun healing. She’ll be fine tomorrow.” I said, “Do you want to go see your mom?” Susie said, “They said I couldn’t!” I said, “No one says that to me Susie. They wouldn't dare. We will go see your mom then find dad.” 

        I could feel her tears on my neck. Noah was dead. I was going to punch Heath the next time I saw him too. I needed to see Lexi. I was trying to settle myself with that knowledge she was hurt, and I couldn’t be there. I had to be the Alpha for my pack right now though. More importantly, I needed to be a big brother. I walked into the room where Nadine was in. She saw Susie and burst into tears. She sat up and hugged Susie who was now clinging to us both. “Oh sweet little girl! The Black Arrow told me she’d get to you.” My head whipped to Matt who was gaping. I said, “The Black Arrow spoke to you?” Nadine nodded, “She got me to the hospital. She gave me that. I haven’t opened it yet.” Matt walked over and opened the jewelry box. “Damn, all the women in the family got one Chase.” Nadine looked over startled, “She gave me her calling card…. Is she friends with Lexi? Oh god… Where’s Lexi?” I sighed, “She was injured. She’s with her brother, he’s refusing to let me in to see her. Ted and Sally went to her.” Susie said, “Sally said Lexi would be fine Chase. She said Lexi was tough as nails. I want to be just like her when I grow up. Lexi’s brother called. He said Lexi took down…. Like a LOT of rogues by herself before she got hurt. She got hurt protecting someone.” I said, “Who?” Susie said, “I dunno. Lexi’s brother said he’d give more details when she could talk. He heard me crying. Sorry Chase.” I hugged her, “You have nothing to be sorry for.” Heath did. Especially since Noah was involved. I didn’t have that information earlier, but now I did. Something told me Heath had known that earlier too. He always seemed to be a few steps ahead.

        Nadine said, “Where’s your father? I felt his pain before I was hurt.” I said, “He was knocked unconscious along with Isaac. We’ll have to give him crap. This is two times in the last few months.” Susie giggled, “Silly Daddy.” Nadine rubbed her back, “Yes, silly daddy.” Just as we said that we heard, “You TAKE me to my family right now! I’m still an Alpha boy, and I can kick your ass!” I laughed and yelled, “Just bring him in.” I heard a sigh, “I will, he just has to get in the damn wheelchair.” I looked at Nadine and we both started laughing. My dad said, “Do you see these two things right here son? They are called LEGS and I can use them. Get OUT of my way.” I said, “Dad, get the damn wheelchair!” I heard my dad mutter, “No respect these days. Fine, act as if I’m senile and unable to get myself around.” A few moments later a very harassed male nurse and my dad appeared in the room. The nurse wheeled my dad over and took off like a shot. Susie finally let us go and climbed off the bed. She crawled up into my dad’s lap. He held onto her tightly. I said, “Dad, what happened?” Isaac was wheeled into the room by Isabella who looked rather triumphant. Matt was just behind him with Derrick. My dad said, “Isaac and I were just going over training plans. Whoever snuck up on us didn’t even have a smell.” I said, “Witches and rogues. It’s a recipe for disaster.” My dad growled, “That’s all I know.” Matt said, “Damned if you both missed out on being carried by the Black Arrow again.” My dad groaned, “AGAIN?! AND with Isaac? This is getting to be so insulting.” 

        Susie said, “She saved me too dad.” My dad went rigid. He then took in Nadine’s state. He growled, “WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO YOU? And WHY wasn’t I told the SECOND i woke up?” Nadine said, “We were attacked before we could go to the safe room. I couldn’t smell him either.” I said, “Warlock.” Nadine growled, “He slammed me against the door. He took Susie…” She broke off crying. She continued, “I chased him, but I was slower because of my head. I shifted when I got to the door. On that note… Chase we need a front door. The warlock did something so I couldn’t open it. I might have broken it down.” I laughed, “Doors are replaceable.” I linked Matt, “Get a new front door.” Matt sighed, “Calling one of your many companies. Thank GOD you’re the boss, and they will work today.” Nadine continued, “There were rogues waiting. There were too many of them. I took down five before they jumped me at the same time. I linked the pack, and thought I was going to die. Arrows started raining down everywhere but on me. I begged her to save Susie. She promised she would. I asked her if she knew where Frank was. I didn’t think she would, but she said she’d found him first. That he was already in the hospital. She dropped me off gave me the jewelry box and promised to save Susie.” 

        Susie smiled, “She did! I didn’t get to see it all, but this guy… He was laughing when he saw me. He was blue, but then he quickly frowned as Arrows started surrounding us. Lots of people got hit. The Black Arrow ...she’s super fast. Like Lexi and Ted.” I said, “She is.” Susie said, “She took me away from him. The blue man who’d been laughing disappeared as she shot an arrow at him. He looked really mean and mad. She tied up the warlock and took me to the edge of the barrier at Sally’s. Sally grabbed us both, and pulled us in. She was crying so hard. The Black Arrow calmed her down, she reminds me of Lexi. I told her so and she smiled at me. She gave me this necklace. She told me anytime I needed her to rub it between my fingers. She made Sally promise to take me inside. Not even let me look outside. Sally played music and we cooked for a bit. She tried to cheer me up, but I was so worried about mommy. That bad man…” She started to cry. “He told me you were probably dead mom, but the Black Arrow swore she saved you.” Nadine hugged her, “She did save me.” Matt said, “Why does the Black Arrow remind you of Lexi?” Susie shrugged, “She just does.” I said, “They are friends.” Susie had a stubborn look on her face. She just shrugged again. Matt linked, “That’s a five-year-old’s way of flipping you off.” I rolled my eyes. 

        My dad said, “Chase, you’re the last piece of the puzzle.” I snorted, “The Black Arrow is the entire puzzle. All of you have met her except me.” Matt said, “I haven’t met her.” I said, “Ok all of them but us.” My dad said, “Since she’s not here…. care to finish the story?” I said, “We were under attack. I left and told Nadine to get Susie to safety. We couldn’t smell the rogues as we were fighting. When Nadine linked the pack, I tried…” I stopped myself briefly thinking of the terror I’d felt. “I tried to break off and come back for Susie. I was surrounded. Alpha Conners and his brothers jumped into the fray. Once we’d had them defeated, I took off. Derrick told us Sally had Susie. We got there, found out Cameron was under attack. I left Susie with Sally and we took off. I ordered warriors to their border, and Alpha Conners was already there. His warriors joined. We defeated them who Sophia and her long lost apparently half-brother showed up.” My dad raised an eyebrow looking surprised. I said, “Yeah, that’s a whole other story. Once we’d defeated the rogues… Cameron took off because Reagan was on the other side of the territory. When we got there, we were told she’d been hurt.” Susie gasped. My dad paled. I said, “She’s fine. Only a concussion, and she needed stitches. She was awake, demanding to come see Nadine and Susie when I left.” My dad said, “You didn’t mention Lexi.” Susie said, “She’s hurt. She saved someone.” My dad stood, “She’s here? Where the HELL is the doctor with an update? What happened?” I said, “She’s with her brother in the shroud. He won’t let me come see her because she’s not marked.” My dad frowned, “That ass! You’re her mate! He knows that! She’d want you there!” 

        Bolt was trying to link me. I ignored him. I said, “I know. We sent Ted and Sally. I’m sure Haley Conners will be by after.” I heard a laugh, “Glad to see everyone all in one place.” I whirled around shocked. Lexi stood there in jeans and my hoodie. Bolt said, “You wouldn't be so surprised if you’d just listened to me.” I hugged her, “This happens too much. Where were you hurt?” Lexi said, “I got bit on the side. Haley healed it. I’m fine. I’m sorry Heath wouldn’t let you come in. He was NOT in a good mood today.” I hugged her, “I can relate.” Susie said, “Lexi, Lexi, I met your FRIEND.” She emphasized the word and looked at me. Lexi laughed. “Did you?” She nodded, “Uh huh. Chase says she is your friend.” Lexi said, “I’ve got a lot of friends. Which one?” Susie tilted her head, “The Black Arrow. Can you take me for ice cream? I’ve had a long day, and Chase will have to do paperwork.” I gaped at my little sister. Lexi smiled, “Sure thing. Let’s go get you some ice cream.” I growled, “WITH Kincade and Kevin.” Lexi laughed, “What about Ken and Keith? They have been following me since I got into the territory.” I closed my eyes. I linked my dad, “Aren’t you going to say Susie can’t go?” My dad said, “No, I’m trying this new thing out.” I Linked back, “Asshole.” Susie said, “Ok, Let’s go Lexi.” I hugged Lexi and said, “I’m so glad you're ok.” She smiled, “I’m glad you're ok too.” I hugged Susie, “I need you and Lexi here to stop scaring years of my life. I’m too young to have grey hair.” Susie giggled, “We will try.” She took Lexi’s hand and led her outside. She waved at her mom and our dad before she got out of sight.

        Sally and Ted had left with them. My phone rang. It was Heath. I growled, “You have some f*****g nerve! Noah was here working with the rogues. He intended to use MY sister to draw Sally out of her house for a trade.” Heath said, “I’m aware. Seems your rogues are from Nashville.” Matt linked, “Oh good.” I growled, “I this is McCann…. I’ll f*****g gut him like a damn fish!” I growled, “I have to make a call.” I hung up on him and turned to my family. “Nadine, dad, Isaac, I’m glad you are ok.” I stalked out. I turned to Matt, “Did we have any fatalities?” Matt said, “We were about to until Alpha Conners and his brothers showed up. They were out on a later than normal run thank god.” I talked into my office. I dialed Alpha Davis. “This is Alpha Davis.” I said, “This is Alpha Chase Daniels.” Alpha Davis sighed, “I see. What now?” I said, “I was just attacked by rogues with ties to Nashville. Know anything about that?” Alpha Davis said, “I don’t.” I said, “Spread the word then; we killed them all and suffered only a few injuries. Same with my brother’s pack. If I find out this is your Gamma’s doing, I’ll kill him.” I hung up the phone. Matt looked at the phone, “Always a good way to end a conversation.” My phone rang. Matt said, “Not it!” Derrick sighed and picked up the phone. “Gamma Derrick.” I heard Alpha Davis, “Does Alpha Chase think he can threaten my Gamma like that?” Derrick said, “It’s not a threat. Just as you would say the same to him if I had gone off the reservation. His little sister was almost kidnapped.” Alpha Davis sighed, “Yes, rumors have circulated suddenly he has a five-year-old sister running around.” Derrick laughed, “For about five years now.” 

        Alpha Davis said, “I doubt my Gamma would do this. He’s more direct.” I linked Matt, “He might have gotten tips from the dead mother fucker.” Matt linked, “Noah probably did a deep dive into your enemies after he saw you running naked out of the concealed area at Lexi’s. I linked back, “How did they even get in the area? Haley’s booby traps should’ve been set off?” Matt frowned, “That's a good question.” Sally walked in as Derrick hung up the phone. I said, “Sally, how come the bobby traps at your house didn’t get set off?” Sally said, “They did. Noah got electrocuted and turned blue…. Like a smurf.” I raised an eyebrow. She shrugged, “A witch got him to a holo port. He appeared back in a different place, and he stood back far enough out of the bobby trap range. Haley said those that were with him didn’t wish me harm, but likely your pack. She was going to pop to amend her fairy charms. She was really mad she didn’t think about it.” Derrick said, “Would you have done it?” Sally sighed, “I would’ve used my calling card for BA.” I wanted to cringe. I didn’t want to think about BA. I must have reacted because Sally frowned. “Chase? Don’t you like BA?” I said, “What? Like her? I’ve never met her. She keeps saving people I know. So that’s good. But like? That’s a strong word.” Sally looked at me like I was crazy. Matt linked me, “Smooth.” Derrick was trying not to laugh. Sally smirked, “Do you want to meet BA?” I didn’t even mean to shout, but I did. “NO!” Sally shrank back, “What? Why not?” Matt was trying not to laugh.
