Look at the Past Pt. 3

Ted said, “About that…. You should know I did a thing.” I laughed, “A thing?” Ted said, “Well… once the amazing princess of the fairy’s came into our lives. I told her about your pill issue.” I said, “That’s fine.” Ted said, “Not done. I asked her if there was a way to deter you from it. Should you take another opiate… actually I’m not clear on the details of what sort of drugs this entails really… should you do it… You will feel awful like you need to throw up but can’t. So you will be miserable. You’ll also grow a tail for six hours. That was all her. The tail part. She was just going to do the tail. I guess fairies have some weird thing about tails being like the worst thing that can possibly happen to you. Please don’t be mad.” I got up and hugged him, “Thank you Ted.” Ted said, “So not what I’d thought you say, but I’m going to run with it.” I said, “I don’t want to go back to that place. It was a dark time, and I worried a lot of people. You did it after the string ceremony, didn’t you?” Ted said, “I did. I wasn’t about to let that piece of s**t make you relapse.” I laughed, “Oddly, of all the things to do… That did not cross my mind. Getting drunk that night, sure. I never thought about taking a pill.” 

            Ted said, “Noah circulated that he was worried about it. Heath was beside himself. You had a shadow on several missions.” I said, “That’s why I had a shadow? UGH It makes me want to ring our lieutenants freaking neck! How dare he do that to my brother! Had Heath been worried this whole time?” Ted said, “Not the whole time. I told Heath what I’d had Haley do. He was much calmer after that.” I sighed, “I’m going to run to Sally’s.” Ted laughed, “You want to see if she has any leftovers.” I smirked, “I’m starving.” Ted said, “Grab me something.” I laughed and took off. I frowned when I got to Sally’s. Her car was here but all the lights were off. I heard something break as I reached the front door. I slid in the side door, “Take…. Anything you want please! I have money in the back, you can have it all.” I heard several people laugh. “This is about your husband, Sally. We need to send a message. Unfortunately for you… you’re the message.”  f**k! I took out my phone and sent out Sally’s SOS to the group. I took out a straggler in the front of the store. “RANDY! Is anyone up front?” Great. I had to answer, “Randy can’t answer you right now. He’s a little bit dead.” Sally said, “LEXI HELP!” Two men came at me. I dodged them easily and pulled my shoes off. Six in stilettos were deadly. I killed two more with my heel. Jesus. How many people were after Sally because of Noah? What did Noah do? Who were these people? A knife hit my collarbone, but it wasn’t deep due to my reaction time. I made it back to Sally in less than a minute. I heard growls at the front door. Kevin and Kincade had to be here. Ted must have told them. I’d have to tell Chase this wasn’t their fault. Sally stood, “Lexi… I… LOOK OUT!” I turned and a man laughed, “I’m not aiming for her you silly girl. I am aiming for you Sally Quaid” I ran and dove in front of Sally. The knife hit me in the stomach. s**t… this one was deep. Sally screamed, “LEXI!” Kevin ran in and quickly killed the man. I said, “Our people are coming…. You guys…. Need to...get back to the… hotel.” Kincade said, “f**k that! Your people know Ted is our Beta Male. Ted RAN in to get us. s**t! Do you guys heal like we do?” Sally had tears pouring out of her eyes, “No, we don’t. Lexi, I’m so sorry.”

            I said, “It’s just a scratch. Nothing a fairy princess can’t heal. Can you call her? I seem to be going into shock.” I heard shouting, “SALLY!” I snorted, “Oh good. The Lieutenant is here. Kevin, carry me out of here before he sees me.” Sally said, “I’ll go out to the front. Take her out the side.” Kevin picked me up carefully. Kincade grabbed my phone. Kevin said, “s**t… Alright take my jacket Lexi.” He wrapped my jacket around me and set me down, “Can you walk? The she’s drunk excuse isn’t going to fly this early in the morning.” I hissed, “I can do it.” He set me down and we shuffled away. “Lexi?” I heard my brother’s voice, “Fuck.” Heath stood in front of me, “Who are these guys?” Kevin said, “We are Ted’s protection. He got the text and sent us over.” Heath said, “You’re pale, Lex… Were you in there? Of course you were. I have reports of nine dead people. Sally didn’t do that.” I coughed up blood. “f**k!” Heath yelled. He picked me up and ran me back to my office. Ted screamed, “WHAT HAPPENED?” Heath took out his phone, “I need you Haley. RIGHT NOW!” A pop sounded, “No need to f*****g shout…. LEXI!” I felt a calming peace take over me. My eyes snapped open and Haley was passed out beside me. I looked at Heath, “What’s wrong with her? She’s so much stronger now!” Heath said, “I don’t know. She just passed out.” A portal opened. Marcus stepped through with Alpha Conners. Marcus looked at me, but Eric went to Haley, “Angel?” I said, “I don’t know why she passed out.” Marcus said, “Because she healed four of our people and hadn’t eaten yet when someone called. Are you alright Lexi?” I sat up, “All good.” 

      Heath said, “HOW THE f**k did you take a knife in the gut?” I said, “The guys in Sally’s shop…. I went to see if I could snag some breakfast. Heath, they said they were sending Noah a message.” Sally slammed into my office, she shouted, “YOU STAY OUT THERE! DON’T YOU COME NEAR US!” Noah said, “Sally, please.” She slammed the door shut. Tears fell from her eyes. “I’m so sorry Lexi! Are you alright?” I said, “I’m fine. Haley healed me Sally, I’m fine really.” She looked at Haley, “Is she ok?” Eric sighed, “She’s fine.” A pop sounded, “Momma, UP!” I snorted. “Alexander, right?” Eric said, “Uh huh. He does this… a lot.” A glow appeared around Haley. A few minutes later she sat up. “Oh you little stinker!” Alexander was now asleep in her arms. Eric said, “He’s a stinker?” Haley said, “I was…. It was obviously an emergency. Lex, you ok?” I nodded and gave her a side hug, “Thank you for always coming to heal me.” Haley snorted, “I’ve told a few people this, but there are some people I’d bring back from the brink of death itself. You’re one of them. I have a circle of friends and family now. NONE of you are allowed to leave me. It’s been f*****g decided.” Eric said, “We need to go Haley. I have a meeting and I’m watching you eat before I go to it.” Haley stuck her tongue out at him. Marcus chuckled, “Come on. Let’s go.” Haley smiled at me, “Call anytime. I’ll always help.” Eric carried her through the portal. Ted's face was tear stained. I looked down, “Damn. She even removed the blood from my skirt and shirt. I love this skirt too.” Heath said, “THE SKIRT? That’s what you have to say?” I said, “I had a split second. The knife was aimed at Sally’s heart.” 

       Sally was crying, “I can’t even look at him right now.” Heath said, “Did they tell you what this was about?” Sally said, “He’s gambling. He’s in debt. A lot of debt Heath. I don’t have enough to get him out. I can pay half. I offered it to them, but they…” She teared up, “They wanted to kill me anyway.” Heath’s face darkened, “I’ll handle it.” Ted said, “You can stay in my special fairy house tonight Sally. Matt and I are going to be in the pack house.” Sally said, “You wouldn’t mind?” Ted said, “I wouldn’t mind one bit. In fact, I insist you stay.” Heath pulled me into a hug. He turned to Sally, “I’m sorry you were hurt. Your business space will be cleaned and cleared. It will be ready tomorrow.” Ted said, “She’s going to have guards. Matt insists. This is their territory. They want people to be safe here. This is a personal affront to them.” I cringed. If Matt knew…. then Chase knew. Heath nodded, “Alright.” He gave me another head and slammed the door open, “NOAH! GET YOU ASS OVER HERE!” I heard my brother drag Noah from the building. Sally cried, “I hate him. I hate him! He’s gambled our money away, and he doesn’t even love me.” Ted said, “Sally, he loves you.” Sally wiped her eyes, “Do you want to know what they said? I’m just the wife. That’s why they were going to kill me. Next, they were going to find Lexi Scott. Because he says she’s his world. They even recorded it. They gave it to me.” I gaped, “WHAT?! Why do they think you’re his wife?” Sally said, “Noah told them I was. He’s never even asked me to marry him, but he tells people he owes debts to I’m his freaking wife! I can’t do this anymore. I can’t!” I knelt beside her, “You don’t have to. Reject him Sally.” Sally was shaking. Ted hit play and we heard Noah’s voice. I couldn’t detect a single hint that it was spliced or tampered with in any way. It was Noah’s voice claiming Sally and I were both his. Ted looked at me, “You don’t think it was tampered with, do you?” I said, “I’ll have Gunner look at it.” 

         A pop sounded. “Have Gunner look at what?” I sighed and handed her the recording, “Can you make sure this is authentic?” Haley said, “Sure. I just popped back after I ate to make sure everyone was ok…. Everyone does not appear f*****g ok. Sally, I’d like to ask the earth to grant you a sense of calm.” Sally nodded and Haley spoke in Fealish. Sally stopped sobbing and Ted rocked her back and forth. Kevin and Kincade were exchanging glances. Haley said, “What happened with those guys shook her this badly? Weren’t they after Lexi?” Ted said, “No, they were after Sally.” Haley gaped, “WHAT?” Ted threw the tape at Haley, “Play the recording in your space unheard thing. She shouldn’t have to hear it again.” Haley spoke her chant and clearly his play. Her eyes blazed. Her mouth moved obviously saying her space heard chant. She spoke again, “I WILL KILL THAT MOTHER FUCKER! Sally, you deserve the world! The troll does not deserve you. OH I’m taking this to Bjourn to see if this counts as a problem! I think this f*****g counts as him causing a goddam problem! I’ll let you know as soon as possible Sally what Gunner says. Probably tomorrow. I will have Gunner run every test he can think of to make sure this is legit.” Sally said, “Thank you Haley.” Haley popped out and seconds later my office door slammed open again. Matt and Chase filled the doorway. Chase had me in his arms in a second, “Are you alright sweetheart?” I said, “I’m fine.” Chase breathed in my scent. I could feel him calming down. “I’m really ok Chase.” I felt tears on my shoulder, “They said you were coughing up blood. I have never been so scared in my entire life.” I rubbed his back. When we parted Sally smiled, “The war goddess knew I was at my limit. You have met your string Lexi. I have nothing to feel guilty about if that tape wasn’t tampered with. I fulfilled my purpose in being with Noah.” I smiled, “This is Chase. We are keeping the string deal quiet. I wish you wouldn't have stayed with him all this time.” Sally nodded, “It’s nice to meet you, and I’m sorry Chase. If Haley comes back saying that voice really is Noah saying Lexi is his world… I’m rejecting him. My conscience will be clear. I tried everything I could.” 

       Chase growled, “WHAT THE f**k?!” I said, “Calm down. I’m yours, not his. Only yours.” Chase said, “I’ll kill him. I will rip his head off!” I put my arms around him and looked over his shoulder to Sally. “Are you ok?” Sally said, “I’ve resigned myself that Noah and I would never be the forever I was hoping for a few months into our relationship. I knew this was coming. My tears were more from shock of almost dying. If you hadn’t wanted breakfast I would’ve died. For a man that I love, but I’m not in love with. Who is absolutely not in love with me.  I want that kind of love Ted and even you have after however long this has been going on with you two. His eyes only saw you when he entered the room. I want that. Noah’s eyes met mine first, but he always looks for you.” I said, “I know you’ll get a second string Sally. I just know you will. You deserve every happiness.” Sally wiped her eyes, “Hopefully if I do get one, he understands that I need to take things slow. He needs to prove to me he actually wants me. Sally Quaid will play second fiddle to no woman ever again. Not even Lexi Scott. I consider it an honor to have kept him away from you while you had your world adventures and found your string.”

        I hugged her awkwardly because Chase didn’t let go of me. “You are stronger than anyone I know, Sally. It was actually the last coherent thought I had after last night with Chase. You are stronger than anyone I’ve ever known. How you managed to survive these last three years I will never know.” Sally said, “No one will understand why I’m rejecting him. They will think I’m in shock or something. Where will I go if I reject Noah?” I said, “I’ll talk to Haley. We can give you options. She has two realms you can go to. Both of which times moves differently in than here. You can take a week off here and in the Hackura realm it will feel like you were there a month. Faerie is an option too. I’m sure Aiden would let you stay there.” Sally burst into tears, “Really?” I said, “Really, and I will deal with everyone else. We can get you a fairy protected house here until you're ready to go back to the shroud. We will deal with this together Sally, I promise you. You are not alone.” Ted said, “And you won’t be alone tonight.” I looked longingly at Chase, “No you won’t.” Matt said, “Ted….” Ted says, “One of my girls needs me tonight. That’s where I’m meant to be. I’m clearing my calendar until we get word from Haley.” 

        Sally said, “Lexi, you obviously have plans.” I said, “We will change them. We are closing up for the day. I’ll cook lunch for Chase, and then I’ll be over at Ted’s with alcohol, chocolates, and sappy movies.” Ted snorted, “As if I am lacking sappy movies.” I said, “Fine. Alcohol, and chocolates. With some other comfort foods.” Ted said, “PIZZA! We are having a pizza party! YIPPEE!!!” Matt sighed, “I love him so damn much.” I smiled, “Then it’s a plan.” Chase said, “When you come back from wherever you choose to stay for a while Sally; you’ll have guards. We had just assigned them when we got word. I am sorry it was too late.” Sally was surprised, “You’re giving me guards?” She turned to me, “Yup, I want what you have Lexi. He’s worried about me for you.” I smiled, “He’s a good one.” Sally smiled, “I’m glad you found him Lexi. I really am.” I said, “I’m really sorry about Noah, Sally. I…. I should’ve been there more for you.” Sally shook her head, “You healed at the rate you needed to. We all have our stories. I’ve mourned my relationship for three years basically. I’m ready to have a girl’s night, a good cry, get drunk, and move on.” I smiled, “Good.” Ted said, “Come on. Me and my Matt will take you to the fairy getaway.” 

        They left and I turned to Chase, “Do you mind changing our plans?” As I spoke Kincade and Kevin left the room. Chase dragged me into my office. He ripped my shirt off over my head, and kissed the spot I’d been stabbed in. He pulled my pencil shirt up. He dropped to his knees. “Chase, what are you...OH GOD!” His tongue was on me. I gripped his hair tight. I pulled lightly and he growled. I came screaming his name. He stood and dropped his pants. He entered me, “You. Are. Mine! No getting stabbed!” I clutched onto him. “s**t! CHASE!” Chase growled, “Say you’re mine Lexi.” I looked into his eyes, “I’m yours.” I saw his teeth elongate. I could practically taste his struggle. I came screaming and he came moments after. I watched in shock as he sank his teeth into his own arm. Tears filled my eyes. I didn’t even care what his situation was. That he would do that…. mean more to me than he could ever know. I wasn’t ready for him to mark me, but I was getting there. Something told me I’d want him to mark me before his situation was handled. That scared me a little bit, but as I looked into Chase’s eyes, I wanted to be his forever.
