Chapter 3

Anika’s POV

What? Lucas? the Lucas Logan? I thought to myself. Don’t get me wrong, Letti is my friend, I love her a lot, but I love Lucas more, I said. Lucas Logan lives next door with his nanny, Patricia. I have had a crush on him since I was 12, way before I met Letti. I should have told her sooner about my crush on Lucas Logan, but how was I supposed to know she would also have a crush on him?

Letti has never had a crush. What I mean is, that she had never been attracted to boys, so why now? What if he ends up liking her too? Nah, there is no way that will happen, I said with strong conviction. No guy would ever pick Letti over me. Letti pays no attention to herself. She’s just some random girl. There is no way she can pull off Lucas.

I feel so tired Anika, I said. “Yes, I know Letti, but you promised to stay till I’m done remember?”, She said with her cute face. I know, I shouldn’t have, I said with a long face. Why do you like cheerleading anyway? I asked. It’s fun Letti, Anika answered. And besides you get to meet pretty boys, Letti, she said with a mischievous smile.

“What took you so long Anika”, one of her team members asked. “I was trying to finish up schoolwork”, Anika said. To be honest with you, I do not like cheerleaders. Just a bunch of girls playing with their pon pon, I said while trying to find a seat. I know you do not like it, but you promised, so deal with it, Anika said.

The moment she left; I became so bored. The cheerleaders didn’t interest me, but their workout routine caught my attention. I was amazed at the way their hips swayed from side to side. Even I couldn’t do that, I said with strong disbelief. As I kept watching the girls, the basketball team came in. I think they had a joint practice.

They all look so good, I exclaimed. Why have I not seen them before? As I kept admiring them, Lucas walked in, yes, the Lucas logan. All the girls went crazy when he walked in. My eyes were so focused on him the whole time. Why wouldn’t they go crazy? I asked. You’re such a beauty to behold.

Then I turned to look at Anika from where I was seated, she was also staring at him, I felt my heart sink. Her smile widened as she continued to gaze at him. Should I be worried? I asked myself. Anika is my best friend and I would not let a man ruin our friendship. I blew off the thought because she’s my friend and she would tell me anything and I started watching the girls sway their hips again.

‘’Hi there’’, he said. I have heard this voice before, I thought to myself. Right behind me was, Lucas Logan. I was absolutely stunned. I did not prepare for this, I thought to myself. You could tell I was shaken by him; I mean this is the first time a guy has approached me in years, yea so I have the right to be stunned. “Hi”, I said. “’ I’m Lucas”, he said. of course, you are, I thought to myself. Hi, I’m Letti, Letti Williams. Oh my GOD, did I just tell him my full name? I thought to myself while dying of shame inside. “OK Letti Williams, I wanted to make sure you’re okay, you know, from the day at the principal’s office”, he said. As he spoke to me, I sensed fear. Why would l Lucas Logan be scared to talk to me? I thought to myself. yea, I’m good, just a few days of detention, I’ll be fine.

And thanks for saving me back there, I said. is that all you’re going to say, Letti? I see you are part of the basketball team, I said with uncertainty. “Uhm yea, I am”, he answered calmly. are you part of the cheerleading team? he asked. No, I am not, I said. “Why not, you are beautiful, you have a great body and you’re really tall for a girl”, he said. “You should think about it”, he said with a smile on his face. Ok, I will give it a thought, I replied. He winked at me as he left

Oh my God, did Lucas Logan just say I’m hot? Not literally hot, but I mean he did say I have a great body. who would have thought skipping breakfast would pay off Let’s not forget that he winked at me. when a guy winks at you, it’s either you’re really close or he likes you. I and Lucas are definitely not close, I mean we just started talking, so does that mean he likes me? Nahhhh that is so unbelievable. Me? And Lucas Logan? oh letti, keep dreaming, said while I *chuckled*.

After daydreaming about what life would be like with Lucas Logan, I decided to cheer Anika on, which is the reason why I am here. Oh my, look what the cat dragged in, Vivian and Victoria, Cat walking their way to the rehearsals. I wonder who they think they are. Vivian Stark, self-centred, stuck up bi*ch, and Victoria Eden, her accomplice, well she doesn’t look like she has anything up her sleeve. after the incident with Vivian, that lead to my mom being invited to the principal’s office, I promised to stay out of trouble.

‘’Oh wow, look who’s here, letti Williams, how unfortunate to meet you here”, she said. huh, do I have to deal with this, I thought to myself. “Cat cut your tongue or you’re too scared to talk”, she said. “My mom calls the shot here, so you better watch out, and that reminds me, stay away from Lucas”, she said. My days at Packs High are numbered. Right now, I just want these cheerleaders to call it a day so I can finally go home.

Anika’s POV

Letti promised to stay with me till I’m done with my cheerleading practice. Although she nagged about it, a promise is a promise. It was my dream to be a cheerleader just like my mom, and I am. Even if Letti finds it annoying, she makes time to support herself whenever she can. I got even more excited to join the team because Lucas was part of the basketball team, which meant I got to see him whenever we had rehearsals. A few minutes after I arrived, the basketball team walked in. I was so excited to see him, even if he did not notice me, the fact that we were in the same space meant a lot. Anika, what’s going on, you’re losing focus, Clara said. I’m sorry Clara, I shouted. I tried to focus, but I could not.

I noticed he was coming my way, at least that’s what I thought until He walked past me. Where would he be going to, I asked myself. Lucas has never approached a girl, oh except his mom. What? Letti? Lucas approached Letti. He walked past me like I was invincible just to talk to Letti. Hey Anika, when did your best friend and Lucas get so close? Clara asked. I’m as shocked as you are Clara, I said as I squeezed life out of the pon pon I had in my hands. Was that a wink? did he just wink at her? What the hell is going on? I thought he didn’t like her. I couldn’t do well in practice because I kept thinking of the possibility of them being together. The bare sight of her began to annoy me.

I just wish he would focus on me and not her, I thought out loud. Oh my God, why did I say that out loud? Thank God, nobody heard me. Really, Anika, Vivian said with a mischievous smile on her face. Aren’t you supposed to be her best friend, she said. but what I don’t understand is why you want Lucas to focus on you unless you have a crush on him, she said. what if I told your best friend that you also like him, what do you think she would do? Vivian, this is none of your business, so please stay out of this, I said with teary eyes. From what I see Lucas might actually like Letti you know, you and I know this is the first girl he is approaching. Oh, poor Anika, I don’t think you stand a chance with him; she said as she giggled. Bye Anika, Good luck stealing Lucas from Letti. What if Vivian tells Letti everything? I thought.
