“See you at the office tomorrow.”
Her heart seemed to stop immediately when the message came in. She blinked, trying to resist this weird feeling that she felt.
She dropped her phone beside her and closed her eyes.
The next morning, Aria climbed out of bed after glancing at the time and saw it was only 8AM.
She stepped out of the bathroom, still feeling a bit tired, opened her wardrobe, trying to find something decent to fit the office style.
Each piece of clothing Aria laid her hands on made it harder for her to make a choice.
She finally picked out an outfit.
She wore a black fitted skirt, highlighting her tiny waist as she walked. A white fitted blazer emphasized the contours of her upper body and was paired with black shoes with slender heels.
She picked up her bag and looked at herself in the mirror, but then a crazy plan came to her. She grinned wickedly and undressed in a hurry.
She picked out black ripped skinny jeans, a simple black tee, and black heels. Grinning from ear to ear, she walked out feeling satisfied.
She mounted her bike and zoomed off.
Staring at the biggest building in Shanghai, she looked at the business card in her hand.
She walked and headed straight for the receptionist’s desk.
“I’m here to see Damien.” Her voice was calm and firm.
Her eyes widened when she heard what this lady said.
“You’re looking for the CEO of this company, Mr. Damien Lee?” she asked in astonishment.
The air in the company shifted the moment Damien stepped in.
All employees straightened instinctively as he walked past them.
“Good morning, sir.”
“CEO, good morning.”
Greetings flew throughout the building immediately when they saw him.
Aria turned in surprise when she saw how organized his employees were.
She walked right in front of him.
“Good morning, CEO,” she greeted him cheekily.
All his employees present held their breath—they’d never seen anyone act this daring toward their president.
They stood frozen on the spot, too scared to breathe loudly.
Every other person who had acted this brazenly towards this man faced their end.
He was a ruthless man who wouldn’t blink at the idea of killing someone.
Yet this woman beside him didn’t flinch a bit.
Damien raised his brows slightly. Few people ever dared to act that way with him.
“You really don’t know when to quit, do you?”
He showed a slight smile when he noticed her dressing.
“You did this deliberately?”
“Did what?” Still playing innocently, she asked.
He started walking without replying to her.
She followed him, unhesitating.
By this point, everyone watching from the side started whispering among themselves.
“My God! Who is this woman?”
“Do you even have to ask? It has to be his girlfriend, but isn’t the CEO single?”
The muttering didn’t stop until they were out of sight.
“Nice outfit, by the way.”
Damien complimented her despite being aware of the reason she dressed so casually.
Taking a few deep breaths, Aria struggled to remain calm. She felt walking with him was the same as walking straight into the devil’s lair. She shook her head at the thought.
Once they entered the office, a few secretaries began gossiping among themselves.
They assumed she was a mistress trying to seduce their boss, the most eligible bachelor in the city.
Aria frowned at the dullness of his office.
“Just like him… colorless,” she murmured.
She walked to the seat, unaware that Damien was observing her every move until she finally settled.
Damien’s jaw tightened as he watched her carefree manner.
“I didn’t ask you to sit,” he said coldly.
“Just as I didn’t ask you to employ me,” she retorted.
His frown deepened. Not sure how to reply, he simply sat down.
Turning her gaze toward Damien, she noticed his nonchalant demeanor, as if he hadn’t been the one to force her to work for him.
She couldn’t help but call out to him.
“Boss,” she said softly.
Acting as if he hadn’t heard a thing, he returned to the document he was reading.
She rolled her eyes at him. I know he heard me — I just can’t prove it.
Growing tired of sitting still, she walked to his side, trying to peek at what he was doing.
Feeling her breath on his neck, he turned around, their lips inches apart.
Rushing to move away from him, she swayed only to be held by his firm hands, pulling her onto his lap.
Heat crawling down her neck, she gently stood up and brushed a few strands of hair that had fallen out of place, trying to hide her burning cheeks before hurriedly walking into the room connected to the office.
Still flustered, she rushed into the bathroom and splashed water on her face. She stared at herself in the mirror.
“How am I going to face him?” she said, hitting her head lightly.
Damien couldn’t help but release a slight smile.
He waited for a while to see if she would come out, but was disappointed when there was no movement.
Aria, still shy about what had happened, was thinking about how she would face him.
She held the doorknob and quietly opened the door to see if he was still seated in his chair.
The moment she stepped out, Damien walked into the office, their eyes locking on each other.
Left with no choice, she could only walk up to him.
“I didn’t expect you to leave the room so quickly,” he commented.
Not sure if he was teasing her, she just kept staring at him.
“I thought I was supposed to be your secretary, not your office accessories!” she complained immediately.
Damien chuckled at her childlike behavior. He hadn’t expected her to complain.
“Complaining so soon? It hasn’t even been a day,” he teased.
“Should it have taken a week for me to complain?” she fired back, her voice slightly shaking.
Seeing her act like a little fireball, Damien smirked and took a slow step toward her.
