CHAPTER 15
Brocc, Lara Stella, and Rudy entered an abandoned grocery store where a group of vegetables were gathered. Murmurs filled the store, and the lights above flickered.
A leek stood on a checkout counter giving a speech. He wore a brown greatcoat and had a scar above one eye. His yellowish-white face was pale, and his green stalks rose up behind him, forming an elaborate V pattern.
“I know that you are upset,” the leek said. “But we cannot resort to violence.”
“Well, pacifism isn’t working!” a potato said.
“I have called Monte Cristo,” the leek said. “I’m waiting on a response. I’m sure that we can find a peaceful solution.”
Brocc, Lara Stella, and Rudy leaned against a deep freezer. Brocc folded his arms and turned so that the leek couldn’t see his face.
