Sasappis “Pull harder, Sas!” Orion’s voice echoes through the forest, punctuating the rhythmic thuds of the long saw against the oak. We usually use axes to chop wood, but Orion seemed to think this way was more fun. It isn’t, but as he’s my Dad’s Beta, we’ll do it his way. Sweat beads on my furrowed brow as I pull the saw with a grunt, my muscles protesting with the effort. The wood splits neatly, the scent of fresh timber perfuming the air, and the logs drop to the ground. I let go of the saw and wipe the sweat from my brow with a hand towel.
