"I don't get it, Nana. This is inhumane. My parents are dead. My parents are dead, Nana!" I cried.
"Shh, sweetie," she cooed, placing my head on her shoulders and she hugged me.
"How could someone with a heart do this to us? Why, nana? Why? This is so unfair," I sobbed bitterly as I held Nana's hand. Flashes of my dad's smiling face filled my head.
My mum's smiles too. We were supposed to serve him dessert in the living room. We were going to have a chat. Tonight was supposed to go like every other night.
Why did this happen?
Why?
"You need to get some sleep, sweetie. Here, lay down." Nana said, moving me a bit.
I lay at my side, sniffling as she covered me with the blanket. She leaned closer and placed a kiss on my temples.
She took steps towards the door.
"Nana?"
"Yes, sweetie?" She answered, turning to me.
"Please, stay with me. I don't want to be alone,"
"I am with you, child. I will be in the living room. I will be checking up on you every ten minutes, okay?"
I nodded slightly.
"Now, get some sleep, okay?"
I rested my head as she walked out of the room.
I lay on my back, looking at the old ceiling that was filled with cobwebs.
I thought about my parents, making my heart tighten.
I can't believe I am an orphan now.
In just one night!
My parents are gone.
God, it can't be. This is not happening to me.
My heart ached severely as I lay on my side. I clenched the blanket tightly, sobbing silently.
Dad, mum. Tell me, this is a nightmare.
Tell me I will wake up soon and see you both.
Please tell me.
Oh God.
I closed my eyes as the sound of the gunshots repeated in my ear. My mum forced me to go with nana. Only for her to get killed too.
The blast of the fire made me flinch.
God, why?!
Why did you let this happen to us? To me?!
How am I supposed to live without them?!
How?!
A light touched my face through the window. I looked in the direction and I saw the full moon.
More tears flowed down my eyes as I withdrew my gaze from the moon. I closed my eyes and not long later, sleep took me away.
********
I opened my eyes to the cold wind coming in through the window. It makes me shiver.
I looked around me and recognized my environment instantly. My heart tightened at the fact that everything was not a nightmare. I am still in the cabin and my parents are really dead.
I sat up, earning a weak sound from the bed. My face is filled with dried tears thanks to the wind.
I got on my feet and walked towards the window, ignoring the cold. I opened the curtains and I realized that the window was fully exposed.
The curtain is the only thing covering the window. No glass or wood. This place is ancient.
I heaved a sigh as I looked at the moon. I held my pendant, recalling how my mum gave it to me on my birthday as a tear rolled down my eyes.
A door-cracking sound took my attention towards the door.
I took quiet steps towards the door and looked at the living room. I saw nana standing in front of the opened entrance door, and it looked like she was talking to someone.
I furrowed my brows.
Who is she talking to?
I can't see the person clearly.
"Where is she?"
My heart skipped at the sound of a familiar male voice.
Where did I hear it from?
Oh God.
It's the same voice from our house. The man that shot my dad.
"Inside, sleeping." Nana answered.
"Go get her," the man ordered.
My heart dropped.
"When am I getting paid?" Nana asked.
Wha.....what? Nana?
"You get paid after we get what we want. Her father was useless to us. The boss wants the girl, so go get the little bitch." The man snarled.
Terror washed me as I covered my mouth with my palm, taking shaky steps back, but I stumbled on something that made a sound.
I shuddered in absolute fear, my heart beating very fast.
"Child?" I heard Nana's voice and more than one footstep approaching.
I let out whimpers as I quickly got on my weak feet and ran towards the first thing my instinct picked up.
The window.
I climbed it and was about to jump down but....
"Hey!" I heard another voice and a grab at my ankle.
My heart dropped.
"Ahh!" I screamed, falling off the window and landing on the ground. I didn't remain there. I quickly got up on my feet and ran into the woods.
"Hey! Stop!"
"Get her!" I heard a different voice.
"Don't lose that b***h!"
I let out whimpers and sobs as I ran for my life, panting tiredly as I ran past tree after tree. I sensed them speeding up on me.
I can't even tell how many they are, but they are seriously chasing me.
I can't feel my heart anymore.
I don't know where I am running to. I am....
"AHH!" A scream escaped my mouth as I fell on the ground, injuring my knees.
I winced at the agonizing pain, looking behind me. I saw flashlights approaching.
"Don't lose her!"
I got on my feet and continued running. Panting and whimpering continuously as I ran towards nowhere in my mind.
My parents' murderers want to kill me.
My parents weren't enough for them.
Nana....
I can't believe this.
I can't believe she is behind this.
How can this be?!
I continued running till I found myself on a route and a fast speeding car was approaching with its lights hitting me.
I let out a gasp, expecting to be knocked by the car, but it stopped an inch close to my legs.
I let out a breath, still standing there and panting like never.
"What the hell?!" I heard an unfamiliar male voice from the car.
"Are you blind?!" another male voice asked.
"Evelyn?"
I froze at a familiar voice.
I looked at the passenger seat and I saw the guy from school, poking his head out of the car and looking at me with surprise.
"Over there!" I shuddered at the sound of my chasers.
