47 - Edward POV

1246 Words
I thought I had the upper hand. I thought I could get one over on them once Helen had informed me that Abby would be bringing Colt and her 'new friends' to Christmas dinner. I thought this would be easy. All I would have to do was bring a host of Hunters down to the pub for the meal as well. That way, once White Crescent left the building, we could take them out. I would keep Helen distracted whilst there would be a m******e in her car park. Despite how much she was irritating me lately, I still gave them the order to cause no harm to Abby. She was my daughter at the end of the day, even if she was getting on my last nerve. What I wasn't expecting was the little comment she made during our showdown. Arthur, who was sitting opposite me and next to Abby, seemed to be enjoying himself. Not that he helped the matter. He spurred it on for a bit. There were two things I was processing from her statement: 1) Abby was having a son, which means that she was carrying the future Alpha of White Crescent 2) She implied I had a son. How? The guy who had lunch with us that day, Jason, seemed to reel from her statement as he soon got up and left. Which caused one of the others to ask, "Is Jason Abby's brother?" I scoff at the statement. "Don't be ridiculous. I don't have a son." That mutt, Colt, goes to stand with Abby, stroking her shoulders as he guides her back to her seat. His gaze fixes on me as he speaks. "Actually, you do. And it is Jason." "How can that be?" Arthur now was asking questions. I was pretty sure he was just doing this to provoke me - he loved winding me up. "The boy looks to be the same age as Abby." Colt places his hands on Abby's shoulders as he stands behind her. His eyes flicker to everyone on the table before they turn back to me. "Jason has always wondered who his father was. When he was at Abby's one day, he found a journal, which was Edward's. Inside, it states how Edward slept a woman on a night out whilst Helen was pregnant with Abby." Colt glances down at my wife next to me. I didn't dare look - she had remained quiet this whole time. "To check this, Jason collected some of Edward's hairs and sent them off along with his own DNA to confirm it. We have the DNA results back at our house to confirm that Jason is, indeed, Edward's son and Abby's half-brother." What is the journal he is referring to? And that is when it dawned on me. The journal he was talking about, I only had a journal for some of my hunting missions. Some were at the clan house, but the odd couple, the ones of memorable and key moments, I kept those at the house. In the loft to be precise. Which means, these lot went up there. "You've been snooping around my house?" I sneer at them. "Without my permission." "That is what you are questioning?" Abby had seemed to find her voice. "Not that we are accusing you of having a son, but that we did some digging." "Because all you have, right now, is talk. You lack proof." I clearly raised my daughter too well in some areas. She looks at me for a few seconds before pulling out her phone. A few quick taps and ding later, she shoves her phone under my nose. "Proof." The screen showed a letter. It stated that Jason Jones was the son of Edward Stanton, with a 99.99% accuracy rating. Jones... "May I see that?" Arthur gestures to the phone, which Abby happily obliged, looking smugly at me as she does. Arthur scans the screen before looking at me. "This wouldn't happen to be Irene's child, would it?" The memories came flooding back to me. How I stormed out the house as Helen was driving me insane and went into town. How I met Irene and she proclaimed me to be her mate. I hid my Hunter identity but mentioned I was aware of her kind because my friend had dealings with them in the past, which I was not wrong about. And then what I am guessing is Jason's conception. How she pinned me down to the floor, consumed by the mate's bond, ripped my clothes open and... had her way with me. I had never felt so weak and powerless in my life. Well... maybe the night my parents died and I couldn't do a thing about it. I vowed on both of those occasions two things; 1) I would become the best Hunter the world has ever seen 2) All supernaturals had to die so no one had to go through what I did "Give me the phone." I order Abby as Arthur hands it back to her. "No." I make a swipe for it but she pulls it out of reach. She then did something I never thought she would. From her seated position, and due to me leaning forward, she smacks me across the face. "Hey! You don't get to hit him!" One of my corporals, Yvette, gets up from her seat and goes to punch Abby. Roar! I don't know what woke Helen out of her trance - either watching her daughter about to get clocked in the face, or the roar that came out of Colt's mouth as he caught the punch, but with his eyes shifting to obsidian black. "You don't ever go for my mate." His voice was deeper as he twisted Yvette's fist in his hand. Her sobs as bones began to crunch silencing the room further. All of the Hunters and Wolves surge to their feet. Wolves taking defensive stances as the kids are sent under the table; Abby clinging to Colt to try and calm him down whilst he pushed her behind him. Hunters putting their hands over the weapons we had concealed. The only person who hadn't risen was Arthur - he clasped his hands behind his head and sat back to admire the view. "Colt... your eyes..." Was all Helen meaked out next to me. Realisation dawned on them as Colt closed his eyes for a few seconds. They were back to brown when he reopened them. "Your eyes... were black..." They all looked between each other at what to do. They had been exposed, by the Alpha of all things, and they knew it. I decided to jump on the opportunity. This could be my chance to have Helen see my way of things. I take her hand in mine and soften my voice. "You weren't seeing things, my dear. It is time you learned the truth about things." I couldn't help the sadistic grin I had on my face as I looked at the wolves, before my eyes settled on Colt and my beloved daughter. They shake their head, silently pleading with me not to. What is that old saying? In for a penny, in for a pound. "Helen, my beloved, the creatures you hear about in fables, myths and legends are real." I stretch my hand out towards the members of White Crescent as I continue. "And these people you see before you are actually werewolves."
