37 - Abby POV

1351 Words
Myself and Colt decided to leave the pack hospital and make sure the vans had arrived; only Clarke followed us on the bike whilst the rest stayed with the vans. We were standing out front when they all pulled up - Naomi had hopped into the first van. I give them a hug and thank you as they make their way over. "Have the warriors been dismissed?" Colt turns to his ranked members. "Yes. They are either returned to guard duties or made their way home." Austin replies before walking a sleeping Teagan and Tyson into the pack house with Naomi close on his tail. "Guess we will have a meeting in the morning about that convoy?" Dan walks over. Colt only nods before his gaze drifts to the distance, focusing on the road we had taken to get here. Dan and Siobhan share a look between them before heading inside. "We will make a quick detour to check on Maeve. See you in the morning." Gita and Felix nod their heads before wheeling the bikes into the garage, leaving myself, Colt, Jason, and Nicole out front. "So..." Jason starts, trying to break the silence. "You two can rest for the night, and have a lie in in the morning." "Don't have to tell me twice." Nicole huffs before following Gita and Felix towards the garage. "Night you lot." Jason turns to me with a sad smile. "How are you holding up?" "Not great." I answer honestly. "My dad is a Hunter, wanting to kill all of you and baby Ash. Not to mention, Maeve is currently fighting for her life in the hospital." "Has her mum been informed?" "Kenna is in the waiting room with Faye. Adelaide and Clarke.... needed fresh air." Colt mulls over his word. He didn't mention what Kenna had informed us all in the pack hospital, it wasn't his to tell. "This night is just full of secrets, isn't it?" I look between the two of them, trying to cling onto any hope of a peaceful existence. "I hope there are no more secrets left to discover." Blink and you would have missed it, but the two of them side-eyed each other for a split second before turning their focus back on me. "What is it?" "What is what?" "You two are not subtly hiding something, so spill before I rain hell fire down on both of you." I command in a stern voice. Jason looks anywhere but directly at me whilst Colt shuffles on his feet before speaking. "We er- kind of had a feeling... about your dad... being a Hunter?" I blink at him. "And for how long have you suspected this?" "When we met him, we thought his attitude was off, so I set Nicole and Jason to spy on him." I was not hearing this. That was a month ago! "Then, last week at the pub, he showed up in Hunter uniform. That was when it was confirmed." The two seemed to wince as they waited for my reaction. "So you two, well three with Nicole, have wondered for a month?" They nod to that question. "And then it was confirmed last week..." I nod my head, taking in all this information. They kept this from me. Why? It was my dad they were spying on. "Do all the supernaturals know about Hunter attire?" "The majority of them do. Best to know what your enemy looks like." Jason answers, trying to make it sound like a positive, but it just rubbed me up the wrong way. Mainly because it implied that everyone at the pub last week, including my sisters, knew about my father and didn't tell me. "Out of curiosity, when did you guys plan on telling me?" I fold my arms and tap my foot, waiting for them to respond to my important question. They look at each other. Wonder who was brave enough to answer this question. "Well, uh, we wanted the proof before we told you..." Colt decided ti be brave and answer me. I look at my phone. "Well, unless my phone is wrong, you are about seven days, at least, overdue, and seven days is me being generous." "Abby, we are sorry. None of us wanted to cause you any more stress, especially whilst you are pregnant." He tries to justify his actions, but I hold up my finger before he can go any further. "Look, it's late, my head hurts and I am tired. This has been a long day and I need to process this information." They seem almost relieved that I didn't push them any further. Hah! it's not done yet. "Before I go to bed, I need to know one thing." That brought a bit of tension back into their shoulders. "Are there any more secrets that I should know about? Say now or never, but if I find out there was and I learn them in the future, then prepare yourselves for the wrath I will unleash." Jason sputters but manages to hold it in as I glare at him. Colt laces his fingers through mine. "All the files we found in your loft, including his journals, are in my new office, next to our room. You can read them in the morning." "Thank you." He turns towards Jason. "I'll leave you two. I feel like you need to tell her without prying eyes." That was weird. Colt gives me one quick kiss on the cheek before heading inside, leaving myself and Jason outside alone. "What was it that you need to tell me?" My curiosity peaked as I turn to Jason. For the first time ever, beads of sweat formed on his forehead as he wrung out his hands. "Well, I-uh... this is... gonna be tough to say." "Take your time." I grab his shoulder and gave it a squeeze. He grips onto my hand for dear life. "I had a DNA test done." "OK... why?" "Because your dad's logs... mentioned my mum." My brain was not computing what he was saying. Clearly, it has been a long night. "Go on..." "Well, uh... he knew her... when I was... conceived..." The cogs slowly whirred in my head. Jason is only a day younger than me, which means he was conceived five months before then. No, either way, he was conceived when my dad was married to my mum, who was pregnant with me. "So... you think my dad is your dad..?" Jason started to shake as he slowly nodded his head. "So, you and I... could be... siblings?" Again, he slowly nodded his head, not wanting to meet my eyes as I processed the information. Dad could have cheated on mum. But, I could have a brother. I want to focus on that last thought. I slam myself into Jason, squeezing him in a tight embrace as I let a few tears fall down my face. "You... you not mad?" He chokes back his own tears. "If it's true, the blame lies with him and not you." I turn my head up so we are looking at each other. Now that I think about it, I could see my dad in his eyes. "And, if the DNA test confirms it, then I could not ask for a better brother." The dam broke inside of him, causing him to pull us back into our embrace, his head resting on my shoulder as he sobbed. "What if it isn't?" "Then you will be my brother in name." "Will you confront your dad about it?" Jason asks me. I rest my head on his shoulder in return. I wasn't sure about that. If it was true, then he cheated on mum, so then she should know as well. "I don't know. But, as proven tonight, he clearly isn't the man I thought he was." We hold each other for a few more minutes before calling it a night. One thing I wished for on the stars as I looked at them before heading inside. I hope that is the last surprise I get.
