14 - Adelaide POV

1277 Words
"Clarke, stop. You are gonna be late for work." I chastise him playfully. I was washing up our plates and cutlery after our breakfast. It was the day after mine and Abby's induction ceremony. Clarke and I decided to come home not long after the ceremony ended to enjoy some... alone time. Now, I had a day off whilst Clarke was suppose to be heading down to P.A.C. That is, if he weren't nuzzling my neck and leaving a trail of kisses every where he roamed. I had chucked on a simple pale jumper and jogging bottoms but his hands decided they were in the way as he pushed them to one side so his hands could roam across my skin. "Mmm... five more minutes." He snuggles into me. "You said that after trying to extend round two last night." I cast my gaze at him as I continue to dry up. He was certainly having an effect on me, I couldn't lie, but I knew he had to start heading off now otherwise he would risk being late. He was staying here now as we were mates and we decided that my little two bed bungalow would be much better in the long term for us compared to his two bed flat in Nottingham. His old flat, once we had cleaned it up and packed all of his personal belongings, had been sold to the pack and now one of the new families had taken it. "Please?" He looks up with me, his eyes pleading with me. "How about this?" I spin in his arms so I could wrap my arms around the back of his head. "Quick one now or long one later? You can't have both." I raise my eyebrows at him. "You know how to play me already." He chuckles before giving me a quick peck on the lips. "Right, I am off." He quickly chucks on his coat and turns towards me before he exits the door. "Don't think I won't hold you too it." He points his car keys at me before blowing a kiss. I catch it and place it over my heart. Maeve would have commented about how cheesy that was. "Love you!" I shout before the door closes. "Love you too." I hear before the door closes. I finished washing up and turned my gaze towards the bins that we had in the kitchen. "Take you out then have my chilled day." I tie up the bin bags and carry them with outside. The Coven had found me this little bungalow with a few neighbouring houses but luckily they were all Coven members so we could practice our magic a bit more freely in the fields that surrounded our properties. The bins were by the fence at the edge of the property but not too far away so I could make the distance. No point using magic when it is not needed - that is what our dad used to say. God I miss him. "He took a bit longer to leave that normal." The blood ran cold in my veins as the voice creeped up behind me. I slowly turn my body, after disposing of the bin bags, to come face to face with the man I hated and feared most in this world - Edward Stanton. "Why are you here?" I try and compose my voice but there is a hint of a tremble in the tone. "Just wanted a talk?" He shrugs. "But not with my mate around." I fold my arms across my chest. "Or any of my neighbours, I bet. Waited for them to go to work too?" "What I have to discuss with you doesn't concern them." He fixes me with a cold stare; his eyes darken as he speaks. "It's about this wolf pack you are now a part of... as well as my daughter." I don't like these conversations. Any conversation I have had with Edward normally ends in heartache. Whether it's in a day, week, month or further down the line, he will cause me, my family or my Coven pain. This is why I try and avoid him as much as possible. "Is Abby truly his mate? Or is this just a plan?" "Plan?" "Does Colt know that I am a Hunter?" "No, he doesn't. But, Abby is his mate." He looks me over, judging me for any signs that I could be lying to him. "You nor your sister have let anything slip, have you?" "You know we can't." He smiles at that. Think he only brought it up just to remind us of the situation we were in and, despite being a human, how much control he had over us. "So, how do we break it?" He folds his arms across his chest. "Break what?" "The mate bond Colt has with Abby." He can't be serious, can he? "You can't. Xavier tried before he was killed and it didn't work - Abby proved her love for Colt was stronger than any magic, including blood magic." I had a smug look on my face as I watched him let that information sink in. From the looks of it, it hadn't sat well. "If you ask me. Abby is safer with Colt than she is with you." Seeing him slightly weakened made me confident, well arrogant I guess, so I will speak my mind. He deserved it after the torment he has put us through. "How is that?" "I agree that this is a dangerous world, but I would rather have hundreds of wolves at my back than, what, fifty hunters!?" "Fifty hunters who have a light Coven under their command." That one stung. "We are NOT your fighters." I spit at him. "No, but I am sure with some... gentle persuasion, we could get you, your sister and your Coven to forgo their allegiance to the wolves." My heart beated fast in my chest. I knew what he meant by gentle persuasion. "How are you such a sick man?" Was all I could ask as he slowly walks past me. "You could imply that to a lot of people - depends on which side of the war you are fighting on." He leans in close to my ear, sending a shiver down my spine as his breath runs down my neck. "I am a soldier fighting in a war to protect humanity from a race that has caused too much bloodshed. That is how it works - everyone has an enemy, and every moral human has to put down the strays." He marches off down the road, leaving me by my gate as I stare into nothingness. "Learn how to break their bond, Adelaide. And I would suggest trying the same for yours as well." I couldn't answer him back. I just slowly slink into the house and close the door, crumbling against it as I let out a sob. How could such a man have Abby as their daughter? My phone chimes in my pocket. I pull it out and take a glance at the screen. Clarke: Everything alright, my love? I can feel that you are upset through our bond. I compose myself before I type out a response. Me: Yeah, everything is fine. Just hit a really sad part of a book I was reading. Enjoy your day, honey. Clarke: OK, just checking. Enjoy your day off. Then I sigh to myself as I try to get my tears under control. What Edward had said ringing in my mind like a bell. How is Abby going to react when she finds out the truth?
