"WOOHOOO!" I scream as I pop a quick wheelie on a quiet stretch of road before zooming off as fast as I dared.
Best way to let off some steam.
Jason would eventually catch up to me, shaking his head at my antics - I know he, secretly, enjoyed going fast to catch me up.
We eventually got into the car park. Parking up our bikes and removing our helmets, I scan the car park over.
"You can't even tell anything had happened?" I muse to him. The Denast Coven, along with the security guards, had spent the weekend fixing all of the car park so that no one would suspect a massive fight took place.
"And you have a way of testing the speed limit." He chuckles at me before we walked into the building.
I couldn't help but stop and look over to where Earnest usually sat, welcoming everyone into the office. Jason noticed this and brought me into a side hug. "Hey, he's fine, remember? He is just taking an extra day or two to recover."
"Yeah... just can't help but feel guilty." I admit before I squeeze into him, trying to pull any last bit of reassurance I could get out of him before I made my way to my desk. This only further lead to me recounting our breathing technique as I saw Gabe's desk.
Breathe in.... hold it! ... Breathe out...
He betrayed me. We were friends.
Breathe in.... hold it! ... Breathe out...
He led them right to me.
Breathe in.... hold it! ... Breathe out...
He nearly killed Colt.
"Hello? Earth to Abby. You with us?" Sloane snaps her fingers in front of my face. I am brought out of my thoughts - I had sat down at my desk but had not turned the computer on or put my bag away; just staring into the void.
I catch the other two staring at me as well as I quickly set myself up for the day. "Sorry Sloane, did you say something?"
"I was asking how your weekend was and if you have seen our sweet Gabe anywhere?" Sweet Gabe. If only you knew the truth.
"I'm gonna guess the usual for him - went out, found someone and will call in sick." I try to keep my voice as monotone as possible but I couldn't help but feel sick. He found someone alright - a psycho who wanted me to be his baby factory.
"And my weekend was fine - parents came back from their holiday yesterday so we just hung out." Oh yeah, there is that issue to sort out as well. Thanks dad.
"How was your weekends?" I divert the attention away from me as we went about our day, chatting and writing up our articles. I didn't have too much to write - just a piece on all the indoor competitions and training sessions for the local clubs in the area as we were now in November.
The day, thankfully, went off without any more drama or questions. Hell, we hardly even heard a word out of Astrid; we could see she was in her office but she only came out for lunch and toilet breaks.
The shift started to draw to a close. Everyone started packing away their things and Jason came up to join us, wishing everyone a goodnight as they left.
"How long is Astrid making you stay an hour late for?" He whispers, still conscious that she was in her office. I couldn't help let out a small laugh. Here was Jason, the werewolf, and he was scared of my boss.
"She will eventually forget about it or ask why I am still here - that's when it will end." I respond as I finish laying out my article on my desk in front of me.
"Old school." He mutters as he takes a seat next to me.
"You have an Ancient God in your head. Shouldn't you appreciate the classics?" That earnt my chair a kick.
We both laugh and mess about for a while until we hear the door open behind. A girl with Ash blonde hair came in, scanning the area before her eyes settled on us. Slowly, she saunters her way over, her black trench coat opened out as she moved as she tucked her hands into her pockets.
"New girl?" I whispered to Jason. No response. I turn to face him but I was stunned at what I saw - his eyes were flickering from their regular blue to obsidian black. "Jason?"
"We got a problem." He states gruffly as he stands up, positioning himself in front of me. "Can we help you?"
"Depends." She smugly looks at us.
"How did you get in here?" Jason sounded so cold right now compared to his usually chirpy self that I have come to know.
"Fire escape." She pulled her left hand out of her pocket and stared at her nails, looking as if she was already bored of this conversation. "It's amazing what a few desperate men will do for you if you show them a good time."
"That was nice of you. Now, I recommend you leave for you are not welcome and you are certainly outnumbered." He puffs out his chest to make himself loom at huge as possible. My breath started to hitch as the tension in the room started to suffocate me.
"Doesn't bother me. Besides, you two will do?" And she whips out a small crossbow from her other pocket, pointing it directly at Jason.
"JASON!" I shout, shooting to my feet as I try to push him out of the way but he throws his arms back and holds me behind him; I could only see her over the top of Jason's shoulder.
"Stay back, Abby. I won't let you get hurt."
"Who is she?"
"A Hunter. Local clan from the looks of the emblem on her coat." Then he c***s his head to the side as he stares at the stranger. "And a rookie at that. Trying to prove yourself, are we?"
"What's it to you?"
"Well, if you want us dead then you may as well tell us." I couldn't tell if Jason was trying to buy time or suss us out but I couldn't wait to let anything bad happen. Whilst tucked behind Jason's back, I slowly move my hand up to my neck and take a hold of my necklace.
Ladies, now would be a good time for you to show up.
"Fine. I know you are a part of the local werewolf pack and I know you have been mated to one - the mark on your neck honey means you got to go too." She gestures at me which causes Jason to pull me tighter to his back.
"That's all you know about us? Abysmal." She was about to retort when the door to Astrid's office opens and my boss nonchalantly walks out, only stopping when she is about a few feet away from the Hunter.
"Hmm... this is an interesting situation." She curiously looks between the three of us before fixing her gaze onto the Hunter. "You look tasty but care to explain why you are pointing a crossbow at my employees?"
"This doesn't concern you." The Hunter snaps at Astrid. Brave girl, no one dared talk like that to her before. "Now I suggest you leave before things get bad for you too."
A coy smile stretches across Astrid's face. "Oh you poor, naive little human." Slowly, Astrid takes very deliberate steps towards the Hunter, forcing her to take timid little ones in return as the crossbow is slowly turned towards Astrid.
"You don't know the true meaning behind your own words and how bad I... can... BE!" Her voice deepens as her sentence ends, Astrid's eyes shift to black as horns begin to rupture from her head, claws replace her nails as she grows an extra few feet and her skin turns red.
The Hunter, as well as myself and Jason, stare at Astrid in disbelief. The Hunter fires her bow at my boss but Astrid catches it with ease before snapping it into pieces.
The Hunter stumbles back in shock, stammering as words tried to escape from her mouth.
"De-DD-DE-MON! DEMON!" Was all she could say before Astrid pounced on her.
