22 - Maeve POV

1335 Words
Strutting round the kitchen, grooving to the music - can't wait for my girl to arrive. I make the little tune in my head as I plate up meals at the pub; the radio playing some bangers in the background as we all begin to wind down our dinner service. "You are in a good mood." Dean comments as we begin the scrub down process. "I am indeed. Taking my girl for a date tomorrow. Just me and her and a picnic out by the lake." "Well, you may want to pack an umbrella and a coat - suppose to be wet and windy tomorrow." "It's England! What do you expect?" I shrug my shoulders in response. Seriously, it's surprising how many Brits complain about the weather when rain is literally our thing. "Yeah, yeah. I know. Just don't get too wet. And if you do, don't say I didn't told you so." I cross my fingers and look directly at them. "I promise. Now go home, I can finish off and you need to help your wife with night feeds." He gives me a two fingered salute before walking out of the kitchen area, leaving me to myself and some dirty dishes. But... no one is around to witness a little magic... I snap my fingers as I perch myself on the work surface, watching gleefully as the cleaning supplies danced through the air. Whistling and swinging my legs as they go. This is so cool. I think to myself. With the assistance of magic, everything is tidied up in no time. I let a smile stretch on my face as I check the time. "Nine thirty - Faye will be on her way here after cooking at the packhouse; Adelaide should have finished her shift too. Abby and Colt should be on their way back from London by now." I swing down from my little seat and start to unbutton my chefs apron. Clap. clap. clap. The hairs on the back of my neck stood to attention as I slowly turned, only to wish I hadn't. "Mr Stanton..." He was leaning up against the door frame. To the human eye, he was wearing just black winter clothing. To a supernatural - Hunter uniform. "What are you doing here, sir?" "I'm sorry. Are you implying that I am not welcome in the pub I bought for my wife!?" His tone was menacing yet quiet, not wanting to alert the patrons or workers in the next room. "No, sir." Addressing him as 'sir' was his power play. He told me, Adelaide and the rest of the Coven that we had to address him as such, unless we wanted to face... consequences. "Good, just checking you remember your place." He stalks towards me. His hands in his coat pockets, making my goosebumps rise with every step he takes until he is right up in my face. "Have you kept our little secret?" I nod frantically. The tears already starting to form in my eyes, betraying the terror this man puts me in. "And has Adelaide told you about my request?" Request? My slight confusion answered his question. "Guess not." He leans down in my ear, hissing as he speaks. "You and Adelaide need to break that mate bond you girls have with the wolves; that includes Abby's too." Frantically, I scamper back until I smack into one of the work surfaces. "No! I won't do that! I love Faye! Just like Adelaide loves Clarke and Abby loves Colt." It happened in seconds. One moment, I was declaring my love to the monster before me. The next, I was gasping for breath as he squeezed my throat, forcing all of the air out of my lungs. "I refuse to have my daughter be mated to a wolf. You and Adelaide I am doing as a favour since you are Abby's friends, but don't push me." He warns as he let's go. I collapse on the floor, taking big inhales to try and reclaim the air I have lost. "Only-.. the mate-.. can break-... the bond-.." I stammer out in between breaths. "I am aware, but I am sure the Coven can come up with a potion to force someone to end the bond." He saunters around the kitchen island before crouching back in front of me, raising my chin so I look directly into his eyes. "Just remember, my little witch." He squeezes my chin, causing me to squirm on the spot. "I have leverage - you can either make the spell or potion to break your bonds, or I can make all of your worst nightmares come true." He throws my chin away. My head clatters to the floor as my arms brace me for support. "I already am living my worst nightmare." My fighting spirit wanted to come to the surface but reality weighed heavy on my back as I remained hunched on the floor. "Then let me see how far I can push it." I cried as I turned to face him. This man was an uncle to me at one point before he found out who my family truly was. "What happened to you? You were so kind to my family and now... why are you so heartless?" He stands as he stares down at me, nothing but disgust in his eyes. "When you see the horrors you supernaturals have caused, you would understand why this needs to be done." "By killing the monsters, you have become one yourself." That made him stop in his tracks - the little glimpse of my fighting spirit managing to breakthrough to the surface. "What are you going to do if Abby finds out what you really do for a living? I hope she views you in the same way we do." "Why you little-" He goes to strike me but is halted by the sounds of plates breaking in the main dining area. A scream pierces the tension of the kitchen. "That sounds like Helen." He huffs before walking towards the kitchen door. "Think about what I told you, Maeve. You may think it, but I am a nice guy. I will give you time to sort this out, but don't take too long." His figure slowly recedes down the corridor before he enters the main dining area. Me - I bang the back of my head hard against the the work surface, clasping my hands over my mouth and screaming my lungs out. Tears burned my cheek as they fell. "Maeve!" I could hear my mate run towards me, scooping me in her arms as she cradled me on the floor. "Maeve! Talk to me. What happened?" My breath was ragged as I try to control my emotions but I am gasping for air as I speak. "I can't say!- And I can't end it either!" I look at her with tears in my eyes. "I want it to end." She kisses my cheeks, replacing her lips with her hands as she cups them so I am looking into her loving gaze. "I don't know what it is you are involved in, but I promise, with every fibre of my being, I will do everything I can to take this pain away from you." Her words provide me with a small comfort as I give a sad nod. "Come here." She pulls me back into her embrace. My head resting on her chest so I can hear the soothing sound of her heart beating; the rhythm calming the beat of my own heart. We stayed her for a few moments, letting the silence of the kitchen envelope us in a protective embrace. I want to stay here forever - the quiet of the world and in my mate's arms, not having to worry about the cr*p that was happening outside these walls. The only thing bringing us back to out sentences was a large THWACK against the wall. "What is going on in there?"
