That felt... too easy.
I know I am not the expert on Hunters or anything supernatural, but surely, if you wanted to raid the Houses of Parliament, you would have brought a bigger force than the ten to twenty I saw in that meeting room.
Where are the rest of them?
The one question kept my head on a swivel like an owl as we were guided by the Prime Minister back to the main chambers.
"Abby, breathe. We are safe here." Colt cooes in my ear as he pulls me into his side. A large protective arm wraps posseively around me.
"Are we?" My slight panic was not missed by the others as I watched their ears prick in front of me. "This is supposed to be a secure location, and yet the Hunters somehow got in."
"I understand your concern, Abigail, but trust me, we have a handle on this." The Prime Minister convinces us. That was until we walked around the final corner towards her office.
BANG!
A blinding white light flashed in front of us. A hissing sound screeched around us as we slowly adjusted our eyes to the scene in front of us - a dozen or so more Hunters racing towards us as Prime Minister Grecan was hunched on the floor; her skin blistered and raw.
"What's happened to her?"
"UV light bomb. She's been burned with sunlight." Colt answers as he pushes his way forward to take on the first wave of attackers.
"Abby, stay with the Prime Minister." Alpha Thaddius ordered as the rest formed a protective circle around us due to a small group of Hunters running up behind us.
I could hardly hear myself think as everyone around me shifted into their wolves and launched themselves into the onslaught.
I was crouched down right beside the Prime Minister. One, to check on her, but also to dodge the odd wolf or Hunter that was either jumped or thrown over our heads.
"Uuggghhh..." Prime Minister Grecan groans as she tries to push herself up on all fours.
"Madame PM, it might be best for you to stay low and sit this one out." I advise as I place a hand on her back, almost mesmerised as her skin continued to bubble.
"Abby..." Her voice fails her as she tries to regain her strength.
"I'm here, just tell me what you need. Tell me how to make you better." One last glance at her tattered skin. "Tell me how to stop the pain."
"Blood..."
"I'm sorry, what was that?" Think I needed clarity just to make sure I had heard it right.
"..blood.. it will give me... energy..."
I stared at the door of her office, wondering if she had any blood bags or something in there. But then, I did see her feed on a person earlier, so maybe that's how she gets it - from donors.
Thump!
A Hunter landed on the floor right in front of us. His legs were hardly attached to his body anymore as he laid prone on the floor. His breath ragged as he tried to catch it.
"Would he do?" I point towards the Hunter as he tries to shuffle away from the fights.
The Prime Minister's eyes turn red as she sees him - the slow nod all I needed before I moved across the floor, keeping low and dodging every now and then to avoid the scuffles around me.
"Sorry." Was all I got out when I reached and grabbed his legs, pulling him back with large tugs towards the Prime Minister.
The howls and wails of the Hunter deafened me as I worked against him, inching him ever closer to my goal. He, clawed and scratched at the ground, not wanting to be her next feed.
"Sorry, sir. Just think of doing your country a service. It's very hard to find good Prime Ministers nowadays."
"I will nev-ARRRGGHHH!" He couldn't even finish his protest before Prime Minister Grecan lunged forward. Straddling him, she sunk her fangs straight into his neck.
The combination of the slurping sounds from the blood being drank mixed with the gurgling sounds of the Hunter as he struggled to stay awake made my stomach churn.
Yep, think I'm gonna throw up.
"Graah!" I turn my head to see Prime Minister Grecan push herself off of the Hunter and slump against the wall. A blood trail dripped from her mouth and meandered its way back towards its former host. His neck oozing with the last droplets as his eyes rolled back into his head.
Yep, throwing up now!
The contents of my afternoon tea was now spewed across the floor as I wretch at the sight before me. It took a few times before my stomach was empty - I sit myself up against the opposite wall, facing the Prime Minister, panting for breath as beads of sweat drip down my face.
"Seriously? After everything you have been through and seen these last few weeks, a vampire feeding is what makes you sick?" The Prime Minister mocks me as she uses a hankerchief to wipe the blood from her mouth before tossing me a spare for my own.
"Thank you." I rest my head back against the wall as I listen to the sounds of battle die down around me. "And I meant it, by the way. You are a good Prime Minister."
She smiles at me, a hint of fondness on her lips. "Thank you, Abby. I hope to exceed your expectations everyday from here on out to become a better one."
"Abby!" Colt's arms engulf me in a deep embrace as he shifts out of Ash.
"I'm fine, Colt. I promise."
"You may be, but what about our pup?"
"Pup?" The Prime Minister looks at us both.
"I'm pregnant with our first child."
"WHAT!" The ladies exasp in shock. "Why didn't you mention this at afternoon tea?"
"My own parents don't know yet. It feels weird telling people before them." Although, when I will tell them is still a mystery.
"Well, let's see to it that you are both OK then." The Prime Minister rises to her feet as Colt lifts me up, in his arms. "Follow me to our resident doctor. She can check you both over."
Colt carried me bridal style down to the doctor. The remainin Alphas and Lunas offered to help search the building to make sure the threat had been eliminated before bidding their farewells.
The doctor gave me a check and confirmed everything was fine for both me and our baby. She also confirmed that our due date would be around March 31st which meant I have just under five months to tell my parents.
Feels like hardly any time at all.
Now, myself and Colt were walking, hand in hand, down towards the tube to get the train back to Nottingham.
"What about Ashley?" Colt says out if the blue.
"Who's Ashley?"
"Our pup, if it is a girl." He smiles down at me as he gives my hand a squeeze.
"Naming our pup after Ash, are we?" I let out a little giggle as I watch Colt's eyes go black for a moment in delight before they return to brown. "I like it."
"So Ashley if it's a girl?"
"Yeah, and maybe something like Asher if it's a boy."
"Asher? Bit of a weird name, don't you think."
"Yeah, because you have room to talk, Colton." That seemed to silence him as he stared to me perplexed. "Exactly."
"Alright, alright. It's not a bad name. And since I chose the girl's name, I think it's only fair you pick the boy's."
"That's what I thought." I stretch up on my tiptoes to give him a quick peck on the cheek.
"Help me tell my parents?"
"Anytime, any place." I loved this side of him - he was so supportive of me.
Now, to use this journey back to plan how to tell them.
