20 - Colt POV

1320 Words
"I would like everyone to raise a glass, please." Thaddius pours out a round of were-liqour on the table before handing them to all of the Alphas present. Just two glasses remained - one each for my parents. "To Declan and Adeline - may your forever guide us and grace our memories. Cheers." We all raise our glasses and clink them against the two in the centre before necking back our drinks; mine was done a bit more slower compared to the others. "So Colt, on a brighter note, how is that human mate of yours? Adjusting to our world, all things considered?" Killian of Blue Moon pack turns the attention towards me. It was already on us - this drink toast was for your parents. "Considering she has been attacked numerous times and kidnapped ever since she came into my life, she is handling it better than I expected." And I couldn't be prouder. She was literally being put through the ringer and comes out the other side stronger. "Definitely a keeper then." Thomas muses before refilling his glass. He will be a handful for Agnes if he keeps going at this rate. "I like her, and she went up against the Council's ruling - very ballsy." John nudges my shoulder. "She could help you lead your pack, and the rest of our kind, to a less murderous future." "True..." I swirl my glass in my hand, staring at the pattern at the bottom. "But I wish this one execution had gone through." "I think that may have broken your mate in more ways than one if the execution took place." Thaddius, always the voice of reason, looks to us all. "Even with everything he has done, you can't turn your back on the fact that Abby and Gabe formed cherished moments together - I'm surprised it hasn't messed her up." "Here, here." the others chorus. I couldn't disagree with them. Think myself and Abby may need a holiday soon. "If the council show leniency towards executions, they may eventually outlaw them." John summarises as he starts to move the were-liquor out of reach from Thomas, who was on glass number five. "That way, we can all grow old and watch our children take over a more peaceful world." "That future is already in its way for me and Abby." They all raise their eyebrows as they look in my direction. "We are expecting our first pup." Whoops and hollers erupt as I am slapped on the back from all different angles. "Congratulations, my friend. Having a child is the greatest gift you can receive, besides your mate." "Thank you, thank you. We were a bit surprised but looking forward to it - counting down the days." I smile at the thought, but it is replaced by slight concern. "Just have a few things to sort out hopefully before they arrive." "Anything we can assist you with? Can have my warriors down to you within a day." Killian puffs out his chest, his display of dominance not going unnoticed as we all smirked at the act - had such a warrior spirit about it. "Well, one of them is Abby's father, so... send down your best negotiators." I try to make myself chuckle, but my voice is laced with annoyance. "Not a fan?" "Inferred that I was either a criminal or a hooker." That made Thomas split out his drink. Looks like he may need a top up. "We haven't told her parents yet about the pregnancy - the pack knows." "So, basically, you haven't told any of the humans in her life yet!?" Thaddius questions me cautiously. I could only shake my head in response. "We are currently trying to work out how to explain it to them." And work out the maths on human pregnancies vs werewolf pregnancies. "But her dad hating my guts is not helping the situation." "Tried talking to him man to man?" Killian asks as he pulls the bottle away from Thomas. "Enough." "Not even Abby is speaking to him right now. She has given him the silent treatment since the day I met her parents for the way he spoke to me and her guard." "And her mother?" "Accepts me as if I was her son." And it made me feel so loved in ways I didn't realise I needed. Don't get me wrong, she could never replace my parents, but she helped fill the gap when needed. "What is the other problem?" "Abby's boss is a demon." Smash! Silence... that is what filled the room after Killian dropped the were-liquor bottle on the floor. "You certain?" Thomas seemed to have sobered up a bit as he spoke. "Saw her in demon form with my own two eyes, along with my ranked members and others." "Whoa..." a few of them chorused. "Demons haven't been seen in centuries. Is she a threat?" John questioned as he now looked for the bottle; he seemed to be slightly shaken by the idea of demons being back. "Doesn't seem to be but we are having to keep an eye on her now, especially as Abby still works there." "Hmm... keep us informed to, Colt." Thaddius leans onto the table whilst looking at all of us in the room. "If Demons are back then we are going to be in for one hell of a fight. We will need to band together." "Best then to make sure all of our warriors are in top form then - we can send warriors to each other's packs to cross train so we are all on similar regime." Trust Killian to come up with the military plan. "Agreed, now-" I was interrupted by a smell catching my nose. Silver... By the looks of the others, they had smelt it to - our eyes turning black as he start to snarl and growl. "We are not alone anymore, gents." "How did they make it down here?" "Who knows, but let's make sure they never leave." The door begins to be forced inwards as we all crouch low, readying ourselves for the fight ahead. CRASH! The first Hunter hardly made it through the door before Killian grabbed him and tore their throat out. A stream of bodies flooded into the room, all with silver weapons, ranging from daggers to crossbows. The cries of battle bouncing off of the walls as we s***h and grab at everyone that came into view. "WE NEED GUARDS DOWN HERE!" "Thomas! You could have handled them if you didn't drink to much!" "WELL EXCUSE ME FOR TRYING TO ENJOY THE ONLY ALCOHOL I GET!" Thomas bellows in anger as he twists the dagger of his attacker out of their hands, spinning it around before plunging it into their chest. "Colt! Duck!" John shouts at me before pointing behind me. I turn at the last second, only to see the Hunter stumble as Prime Minister Grecan latches onto their neck, draining every inch of blood out of their body. "Someone explain to me how Hunters made it into my God damn building!?" She demands as guards file into the room along with the Lunas and Abby; her dagger drawn, ready to take on the threat. I rush over to her and pull her towards me as the other Lunas head to their Alphas. "Are you hurt?" She asks as she runs her hands over my body, searching for any signs of injuries. "No, you?" "You pretty much dealt with them all before we got here." "Well, I have been told I am a good fighter." She swats at me playfully at my remark. "Is that all of them, though?" Margeret looks to our group. "Better to be safe than sorry. Guards, fan out and search the grounds. Rest of you - my office." Better follow our Prime Minister. Don't want to end up like that Hunter she drained.
