19 - Abby POV

1340 Words
This almost feels like something out of a fairytale. A girl sits down with four female werewolves for some tea and cake. Then again, my life for just over a month has been nothing but a story. We were sitting at a round table at a coffee shop located across the road from Parliament. I was sitting in between Sophie and Luna Kailey whilst the Lunas of Scotland and Wales were sitting on the other side - Agnes from Wales and Margeret from Scotland. The men were all back at Parliament, making deals with Colt as he was the new Alpha. Apparently, the Lunas like to be less formal about making deals. The ladies were all nattering about the good times. I was being a wall flower - trying to gauge their conversations but also just wanting to go home. Well... the packhouse, or Maeve or Adelaide's. Still can't go home yet - otherwise that means facing dad and I do not want to be dealing with him right now. Not after today. Snap! Snap! Snap! I come back to my senses as I see some fingers snapping in front of my face. The source - Sophie. "You OK, Abby? You zoned out on us there." "Yeah, just... long day." Kailey places a sympathetic hand on my shoulder. "It is understandable, dear." "Still think your friend needs to serve the death penalty." Luna Agnes grumbled under her breath but we all heard. "AGNES!" They all whisper shouted at her. Their death stares being met with a throw away hand. "What? Why does he deserve special treatment because Alpha Colt's mate asked them too?" "Why do we have to stick to the old ways?" Sophie retorted. "Humans in the UK outlawed it decades ago. Why can't supernaturals? I get it is tradition but it is so archaic" "Nothing wrong with sticking to traditions, dear." Luna Margeret chimes in whilst sipping on her tea. "But, I do agree that some of our traditions can be... amended." "I think rehabilitation might be a good call - people have come round from rejected mates bonds so maybe that is all he will need." Everyone nods at Luna Kailey's words. "When you take over Emerald Dawn, Sophie, I want you to inherit a world less barbaric than before. Then, once you do, make it less barbaric for generations to come." "Thanks, mum." The reach their hands across the table to give it a firm, loving clasp. "So, Emerald Dawn is the name of the Irish pack?" I look between then as they lean back on their seats, once they had grabbed some cake from the centre. "Ireland and Northern Ireland." Sophie clarifies. "The two packs merged when my parents found out they were mates." "I was the leader of Emerald Moon, the Irish pack, whilst Thaddius was the leader of Gold Dawn. We were both young leaders and so we decided to merge the packs so that we could run it together." "They became Alpha King and Luna Queen of Ireland and Northern Ireland not long after." Luna Margeret raised her cup towards Luna Kailey, who returned the gesture. "So, do I address you as your Highness then?" "Kailey will do fine, Abby. People only call me Luna when they need to be and Luna Queen when they are in trouble." She had a cheeky smirk on her face when she mentioned that last part. "I don't mind if you refer to me as Luna Queen. Makes me feel all fancy." Luna Margeret, or should I say Luna Queen as it appeases her, does a little jiggle in her seat as she reaches for another scone. "You are a Luna Queen too?" "We all are." Luna Agnes answered. "I am the Luna Queen of Wales as well as Luna of Red Sky with Thomas meanwhile Margeret is Luna Queen of Scotland and Luna of Blue Moon." "So, do you have packs underneath you that you rule?" They all turned to each other, looking a bit uncomfortable at that question. "There... are no other packs." "... I'm sorry, what?" "Abby, you see all of the Lunas here today." Sophie gestures at the three ladies around us. "This is what is left." "There is only one pack per country now!?" They all nod grimly. "How is that possible?" "Hunters." Luna Kailey's grip on her teacup tightened. "They take us out - destroying our numbers and yet we are the ones who are the threats." "England was the only exception up until the Blood Moon attacks." Luna Margeret rolls her eyes before thumping her hand against the table. "That damn Xavier! Our numbers dwindle and he decides to go to war." "Which is why us ladies have to make sure our packs stick together." Sophie clasps my hand. I grumbled a bit, I was reaching for some Victoria Sponge. The Lunas all look at each other and smile. "You see, Abby. This is how we do business - leave the men to whatever games they play but us woman are the ones who decide the important deals." "Is that the case in general or your mates?" I feel like I was asking twenty questions. "Oh Abby, mates do anything for each other - that is why Colt stuck up for you at the trial today when you wanted to have your friend sent for therapy in the States." "I don't think he is too happy with me about that, though." I turn my eyes downcast. "And? You are not going to agree all the time." Luna Agnes flicks a macaron at me, which clocks me on the cheek. I just give her a smirk before picking it up from the table and eating it. "Just... I have never been with a guy like this before. Not to mention the werewolf bit." I whisper the last part as we were in the middle of a cafe. "I just... I think I need to talk to him." "Well, the gents are probably finishing up there meeting now-" "You mean drinking, mother." "Sooo... let's go and see them shall we." We pick up our bags and make our way back over to Parliament, flashing our passes as we pass the gates. We were engaging in small chitchat before we ran into the Prime Minister. "Ah, isn't this a fine bunch of ladies." "Madame Prime Minister. Do you, by any chance know, if our mates are ready to head home yet?" Luna Kailey clasps the Prime Minister by the shoulders as they greet each other, as if they were old friends. "Well, I am not sure if I am being honest. I hope so, though - I like to use those dark rooms for my slumber and they can get awfully rowdy when they drink our were-liquor." She ushers us all to follow her back down towards the basement area where the trial had taken place. "I hope Thomas isn't too drunk - he is such a lightweight." Agnes groans from in front of me as I walk at the back of the group with Sophie. "I feel, even if you don't, that you are handing our lifestyle very well." Sophie leans in and whispers in my ear. I smile at her but then notice she has frozen still. In fact, now that I look at the rest of the group, they were all standing frozen still. They were all sniffing and scanning the corridor around us. I didn't know what to think until they all turned to me - the wolves eyes were black whilst the Prime Minister's irises had turned a bright red. I couldn't help but gasp at the sight. "Abby, by any chance do you have that silver dagger on you?" Prime Minister Grecan asks me, hissing slightly as she speaks. I nod slowly in response before crouching, removing it from it's place in my boot. She gives me a coy smile before turning round to face the front along with the others. "Good. Because we've got company."
