AUDREY POV.
Adjusting Chloes’ blanket over her shoulder, I head towards the windows and draw the curtains, making sure to block any light from getting in.
It was supposed to be eight in the evening right now back home, her bed time but it was just four pm here.
Once the room is dark enough for her to sleep but with some light for me to see, I find my way around as I stack up our clothes up into the closet.
This room was much more bigger than both mine and the baby’s combined back home.
Picking up her little photo frame from the suitcase, I gaze at her blue eyes, running my fingers a lot then and they just remind me of Xylon.
He was really not happy to see me, judging from the first words that came from his mouth after a long time of no contact, he still hated my guts.
But boy hasn’t he become even much more hot compared to before, his torso has become more broad and firm that I could almost trace his abs perfectly well through his t-shirt.
He maintained his hair much longer, styled back compared to before, his shoulders looked much more broad, strong and wide. Looking at him all so cleaned up and handsome just reminded me of Henry Cavill.
Sighing, I carefully place her picture frame next to the night stand on our bed before trying to put away the rest of the clothes and suitcases but a knock on the door stuttles me.
Heading to the door, I swing it open with a slight smile at whoever is behind but it’s immediately wiped off my face when I see Xylon standing there, with a displeased frown on his lips.
“Hey X—“
He cuts me off, pushing through the door and into the bedroom, oblivious to the bay sleeping in the giant bed.
“Let’s cut the crap Calloway! Why are you here?” He yells, stopping and standing at the foot of the bed before turning to face me.
His voice doesn’t contribute much to my efforts of keeping Chloe asleep.
“Can we not do this right now. My baby is alseep.” I hiss at him, pointing to Chloe who is already stirring in her sleep in the process.
He pauses again, like this toke him by surprise, his head turns in her direction and he stares at her sleeping frame for a long time.
“Let’s talk!” I point out, saying anything to get him out of the room and away from Chloe.
He doesn’t say anything as he quietly walks out of the room and into the hallway.
I follow behind.
“Is she yours? You and Ambrose?” He asks, his voice strained with something I can’t comprehend.
“Yah.” I whisper, keeping my eyes anyway but his face.
“Why the f**k are you in my house?”
Shifting on my feet, I let the sore memory from yesterday resurface as I try to explain to him why I am here.
“Ambrose got married.”
“If your here to rub in your—“
“To Michelle. He replaced my wedding with her.” I add, trying to drive my point home.
“And that’s my business how?. The last time I checked, you walked out on me, on us with Ambrose f*****g Derban. You think coming back after all these years with a sob story is going to suddenly change things to how they were.”
“I didn’t come back to try and change things Xy. I—“
“Then why the f**k are you here , why are you in my house?”
“Because I don’t have anything left. I have nowhere to go. And I can’t do it all alone yet I have Chloe.” I confess, it felt even more painful saying it outload than ever.
“All the money we saved is on a joint amount with him, I would need his signature too to access it, I couldn’t sit in that house looking like a fool after everything I did for him.” I add, feeling the tears start to pour down my face.
I look up through my teary vision but find him already staring at me.
He pulls his gaze away and clearing his throat in the process.
“Make your self at comfortable but only for a few days and while at it, sort your s**t out and do it fast then leave.” he says before walking away and turning the corner of the hallway.
I leaned against the hallway wall, letting the tears fall freely now that he was gone.
He really still hated me, but at least he wasn't kicking me and Chloe out to the street for the next few days.
Wiping my face with the back of my hand, I took a deep breath and walked back into the bedroom.
I needed to check on Chloe.
The room is now silent, except for her soft, even breathing, I walk over to the side of the bed, ready to slide under the covers next to her but as I reach the edge of the mattress, my heart sank.
The nightstand is empty, my breath feels caught in my throat as I look down at the carpet and under the bed, thinking maybe it had fallen, but there was nothing there.
The photo frame is gone yet I certainly remember placing Chloe’s picture next to the lamp before Xylon knocked on the door.
It couldn't have just vanished.
But then it hit me.
Xylon walked in and remained at the foot of the bed while we were arguing, staring at Chloe like he was in aw for a long time before we stepped out into the hallway.
Did he take it?
Leaving Chloe asleep, I slip out of the room and hurry down the dark corridor toward the staircase.
My heart starts racing fast at the thought that he toke it.
If he looked closely at that photo, if he noticed the way her face fully mirrored his own before her eyes even opened by then, I would be as good as dead.
I reach the bottom of the stairs and see a thin raw of light spilling from the slightly open door.
It had to be his study.
I creep closer, making sure my bare feet create no sound on the floor.
Pushing the door open alittle more, I peer inside and see Xylon sitting behind a dark mahogany desk, the room is lit only by the desk lamp on his study table.
His head is buried in his hands as his broad shoulders look stiff.
From here, I can already see Chloe's photo frame as his source of focus, he is looking at with so much attention.
My lungs seem to lose air as I watch him slowly lift his head, his blue eyes looking almost bloodshot, fixed intensely on my daughter's face.
His large fingers reach out, tracing a line of Chloe's jaw on the frame.
He didn't look angry or pissed off like earlier, he looked pained, like a broken man almost.
"Ambrose's child..." He whispered, his voice dropping low and rough.
He sounded so terrifying that it makes my blood run cold.
"You f*****g liar, Audrey."
