“Have a good evening, Audrey!”
“You too!” I called back with a smile, waving at Claire and Lea as they disappeared into the crowded lobby with the rest of the finance department.
Within minutes, the towering Maddon Headquarters building began to empty.
Employees poured onto the sidewalks, laughing about weekend plans, calling taxis, and saying their goodbyes after another long workday.
I hugged my handbag closer against my side and stepped out onto the curb.
A yellow cab rolled to a stop.
“The Maddon Estate, please.”
The driver nodded before pulling away into the stream of evening traffic.
I leaned my head against the window, watching the city blur past.
Today, work hadn’t been terrible, Trevor had actually been patient with me even through my silly distractions.
