Lana’s POV
I make it to the omega packhouse just in time to start my daily chores. The alpha and Luna say this is how I am to earn my keep. By their decree, I am allowed to stay on pack lands within the orphanage if I follow their simple rules.
1. I am never allowed to leave the pack lands unless I have permission to since I no longer attend the local high school on mutual territory.
2. I am never allowed to look another pack member in the eyes unless I am command by said pack member to look at them. This rule I hate because generally when I must look someone in the eye I am being punished or I am about to be punished.
3. I must wake up each morning at the butt crack of dawn or before dawn to gather all the omega’s laundry, wash their laundry, fold their laundry, and place by each of their assigned rooms. Meanwhile I must attend to the babies within the omega nursery. (Luckily there is only between 1-3 babies at a time due to the reality of finding your mate.) I must have the laundry completed by 10am each morning.
4. I must stay hidden from pack members unless I am following a direct order.
5. The last and most important rule, if I must be seen then I must stay quiet. If I open my mouth without being spoken to prior, I am to receive either a slap or punch to the face or a kick or punch to the stomach. (This rule has gotten me into trouble as I can be opinionated.)
I have learned to follow their rules and stay out of other’s ways ever since Mrs. Barns passed away. Before she left, I was able to act somewhat like a normal child. I got 3 meals a day, I attended school, and I was loved at least by one person. Since then, no one wanted to take responsibility of me. The alpha forced Mrs. Hilden to be my guardian until I turned 18 or she was going to be banished from the pack.
The rules may suck at times but at least I was able to get out of some of the previous rules. I used to have to cook instead of clean. However, I may have burned some food on purpose one to many times and now I am no longer allowed in the kitchen. The downfall is I was not allowed to eat on the days that I burned the food, and I can no longer try to sneak some extra food when I have a chance. The upside is that I no longer get burned “on accident” from some of the omega’s who want to get on either Abigail’s or my brother’s good side.
I used to daydream about what my life would have been like if I didn’t kill my parents but when that happened, I always seemed to mess something up and the last rule was always broken. Instead, I hurry to get all the laundry from each of the five floors and dash back to the laundry room to start my chores.
Before I head up to the fifth floor to start gathering laundry, I grab the baby monitor from the charging station in case a baby is brought into the nursery. That rarely happens but when a baby is brought in, I am immediately supposed to stop what I am doing to meet the parent and handle the baby. The good part is I can always take the baby with me to the laundry room. Collecting laundry with a baby has always been a pain so I try to get all the laundry collected before a baby needs my help.
I was able to empty all the laundry baskets from the third, fourth, and third floor. I have just made it to the second floor to collect the last bit of laundry when someone smacks right into me. I start to apologize and pick up the dirty laundry when I hear the voice of none other than Alpha Ryan.
