ALEX DOESN’T PUT CLAUDIA down once. The baby doesn’t mind; she loves clinging to Alex any day and is shy and in need of assurance when there are new people around. But watching Alex bounce her on his hip, Paul can’t help but think he’s using his child as a security blanket. Or, maybe, just a living reminder that he got out and has a life beyond this town.
Paul is taken aback to find that, after the initial round of sibling bickering, Alex and Delilah fall into a repartee that he completely did not expect. Alex may harbor every resentment against his sister in the world, but they also get along amazingly.
“Wanna watch the game later?” she suggests.
“At the school? Yeah no, I am not doing the Friday Night Lights thing.”
“No. Asshole,” Delilah says and winks at Alex when Laura scolds her
