ALEX IS GLAD TO HAVE his family in Iceland with him, but knowing he has people to go home to makes work the next day seem so much longer. He passes the time between takes chatting with his castmates and the crew about what he should do with everyone while they’re here.
Unfortunately, talking with people about good hiking trails for four adults, a second grader, and two babies who will be in backpacks means making conversation with his co-star Chris. Who is actually an action-hero kind of movie star and not just a guy who got famous because he was on TV.
Chris is fine as an actor. He and Alex have great chemistry on camera. And while Chris isn’t a complete tool, he drives Alex up the wall. And not in the entertaining way Liam did back when they barely knew each other.
No, the problem with Chris is that he has a secret girlfriend. Which is the sort of dumbass Hollywood bullshit that makes Alex want to scream. Liam being in the closet about being bi while Alex was very, very out was uncomfortable. Chris being in the closet about being straight or in a relationship or whatever it is he’s in the closet about is super disgusting.
As far as Alex is aware, no one’s going to threaten Chris because he likes to f**k women. And him implying by omission that he’s single or into guys or whatever to increase how interesting people find him is just gross. Today, Alex has to deal with a Chris who is cranky that, thanks to those choices, his girlfriend can’t come visit him in Iceland too.
“No one cares what we do here. No one knows what we do here. There are more sheep here than people,” Alex points out. It’s the best thing about Iceland. That, and climbing glaciers.
“It’s just easier. More people want to f**k me, bigger box office draw,” Chris explains in response to Alex’s continued bafflement.
And that’s another thing that irritates Alex. Just because he’s confused doesn’t mean he wants an explanation. Yet, somehow, he still needs to ask. “Do people not want to f**k you if you have a girlfriend?”
