Chapter 2 Invisible

1678 Words
RubyLyn's POV As I got into the SUV, I saw my sister slam the back door. I put on my seatbelt and once it clicked. My mind clicked as well. I knew what this meant. It was time to play invisible. I would barge through the door and say 'Grab what you can't leave without. Be in the car in 45 seconds. And make yourself invisible. No one needs to see you or even know you exist. Got it!' Invisible was a game we learned from dad. Whenever we suddenly had to take off from whatever spot we just got used to. Dad. When he had that assertive drill Sergeant attitude, we knew not to question him. We would make our way to the car of choice and elegantly maneuver our way through whatever circumstance was in our way. It was sort of a game. The winner, of course, got to choose dinner and dessert. A big time plus when your 8 and 9. As I sit in the back seat of our mom's SUV, I imagine us going on a hiking trip. Somewhere beautiful in Colorado. I've seen it online and the mountains out there are breath-taking. When I open my eyes, everything around us has changed. The smell, the weather, the sounds. I see the look on everyone's faces and I know. Wait! What? No way! There is no way on earth I just did that. I am not that special. "Rubylyn, you have no idea just how special you are." "What? I didn't say anything." I am in way over my head. "HOLYSHIT!" "Alright, alright, girls, let's calm down and relax. Now, sweetie, when you said invisible, what did you picture in your head?" "I thought of the Colorado Mountains." There is at least 3 holy s**t moments in a day. But right now, this takes the cake. I mean my uncle Oliver, he can read my mind. I am still getting over the idea of thinking of someplace in my mind and bam we are there. There is no way anyone can have such power. That person would be hunted and enslaved....or worse. "HOLY s**t!" "Calm down sis. I told you. I mean I have been telling you. Come with me to the library. It is a vast network of all things possible. It is the gift of knowledge. It is there to guide you. But no, you would rather work." "Okay look at me Rub, now focus on this picture and imagine us there." "She's gotta be invisible mom." And just like that, invisible. Saraphine Thomas (Black-Star) As we appear in the driveway of my Uncle Oliver and mom's house. I squeeze my sister's hand. I never realized all the creepy things we don't actually see. The thin wall that keeps us from the madness of trying to get in. The in between of two worlds. They were getting stronger. I held my sister's hand as we slid in invisible to them, but I knew they felt us. The words of their rambling were getting clearer. Especially that Valdimor-looking creep who wanted to suck the very existence out of my sister and I. And for what to become The Invisible one. Little did he know if he becomes what he is after. All those voices would sense him and consume him and he would be another one rambling warnings each time the keeper walked through. I mean not every one enjoys the wonderful world of the less traveled. I find it fascinating. I take off up the stairs and the door opens. "GRAMPS!" "Saraphine, finally come give your grandpa a hug." I hugged the old man I would have massive conversations with. No one knew, of course. Because we communicated through the library system. If RubyLyn actually came with me. I think she would have finally accepted what we are. I mean what girl gets to be the movie. The movie every soul on earth wants to be a part of. Wishing it was real. But I know full well if it was. They would freak out! The Voltire and Voldimore have not even a chance. They would be laughing stocks. The things I have seen. Scarry s**t. And who knew my sister and I and one other would be saving the world? Now everything dad did made more sense at that moment. "I have waited for you to come. And now here you are. Shall we?" "Yes, we shall. Now let's go see this library you keep bragging about." He laughed and we made our way to the big double door. It opened and I had to stop and pick up my jaw from the floor. This place was sic! It looked 5 stories high. It was like a dome. It had one of those ladders where you can go merry go round the room with ease. It smelled like book glue and old gothic ink. It was like no library I had ever laid eyes on. The wooden shelves were made out of mahogany wood. The glass doors lead out into a small patio you could have lunch and read a book or five. I am impressed. "Dang Gramps, you weren't lying. This place is like a fairy tale. I am never gonna leave. "I am glad you approve." "I had my doubts, but man you definitely brought it." He chuckled. "Grandpa, I gotta go to Rubylyn." "Come on, let's go." We race up a flight of stairs and are in the room where I can see RubyLyn struggling against the darkness. I look at her arms and I see hand impressions. I lean in and whisper. "Let my sister through. Or else I will go in there and burn that b***h to the ground." Just like that, my sister opens her eyes. "Saraphine?" "RubyLyn?" "Grandpa?" "Girls?" We all laughed. Now, see dad could never get that. He hated it when I joked. But you know what, if you didn't joke, the insanity of it all would have me in a straight jacket. There is no way I could handle that outfit. White is just too hard to keep clean. "Come on girls, let's go eat." We all walked down stairs and into the huge kitchen. Dinner was already prepared and sitting on the counter. I picked it up and gramps and RubyLyn grabbed something for us to drink. We headed into the main gathering room. And we sat down the food. Next thing, we all had a big family hug. It was needed. Not just for RubyLyn but for mom too. She had no idea. No idea the nightmares RubyLyn had. "I hope dad's alright." "As do we all." The next few hours went by like the blink of an eye. We sat and talked about growing up. All the embarrassing moments we had. But I could sense mom already knew them. But coming from us made her more at ease. Uncle Oliver almost wet himself a couple of times. He was no joke. I could see his very presence had a power in itself. I had a way of knowing what a person was capable of all. The darkness in them. As well as the light. It was up to the soul within to determine the path it went down. Not everyone can walk through the darkness to reach the light on the other side. It was not for the weak. RubyLyn and I have walked through that valley many times. The in-between doesn't even bother when we are together. I don't know why. But it is something I will get to the bottom of. My sister doesn't call me Nancy Drew for nothing. Grant Thomas Black Pov Leaving the girls was hard. But I knew it had to be down. When I saw Gracie at the bar I go to sometimes, I knew it was time. The shadow amongst the shadows told me when red lips talk it is time for you to walk. It was a riddle. For some, the meaning of a riddle would be pointless. But for me, I knew. I knew it meant someone, a traitor, someone with red lips would see me and talk to me. That only meant I must walk away from the girls. Danger was not far behind. With that warning, I called Luciana. She would have to protect them now. And by now she would have the family of the 2. Things would start to set into motion. Lines will be crossed. People will die. The darkness will try to corrupt a weak person's mind. I just hope my kind had the strength to pass through the dark and into the light. Because if you can't do it, the in-between will find you and corrupt your mind. Use you and spit out the emptiness. The girls walked that path with ease. When they did that, I knew. I knew that he would forever hunt RubyLyn. Try to kill Saraphine. Little did he know Saraphine was not one to mess with. And once RubyLyn comes into her power. She will be the one to rule. As our mother's predicted. Before they were even born. I drive to the bar after I hang up and break the burner phone. It's always nice to hear Luciana's voice. Just not when she is about to kick your ass, She is still a feisty thing. I do miss my wife. And I know I can trust Oliver. Now to handle this red-lipped t**t. "Oh what the f**k-?" "I asked you if it was true the girls were dead? You said yes. But sources told me differently. Don't worry, I won't let you watch me kill the little loud mouth. But I will let you watch him take the other." Just then her phone rang. "WHAT! ARE YOU SERIOUS? Imcompatent fools!" She slams down the phone. "I told you, you will never lay a hand on either one of my girls." "Oh shut UP!" She kicks me in the balls. I went down and out.
