Chapter 7.5 Grey felt like a lightning just hit him. Miracle just ruined his supposed to be confession. He turned his back and he closed his eyes. “You will be busy that day? I’ll just cook some noodles now. I’m sorry, that’s the only thing that can be done easily.” “Its… It’s okay.” Grey tried to smile and tailed Miracle as she ascended the stairs. It took her some minutes before the noodles was served cooked. “There. Enjoy your snack s***h dinner.” Grey just faked a smile and started eating. Just as he was done, he saw Miracle in her white t-shirt and black pants. “Just put that bowl there. I’m sorry, I need to hurry. I have a six o’clock shift at the HM Café. I know you are aware of that. I will just talk to you tomorrow. Okay?” Grey did not protest and just left without a word. On the other hand, Miracle almost ran to the Café. She was still catching her breath when she wore her apron. “Did you join a marathon girl?” asked Mariah who was trying to put her hair in a bun. “Nope. Someone actually came to see me and I don’t have a choice but to give some food that’s why I was almost late. I ran all the way here, you know.” Mariah shook her head and take a serving tray. Miracle followed her after she fixed herself and she plastered a smile on her face. Just like before, the place became crowded and Miracle have no choice but to serve the orders faster. She was at the middle of serving a couple when the girl tasted the cake and complained. “Why is this cake so bland?” she asked. Miracle examined the cake and it was a super sweet type of cake. “How can it be bland Ma’am?” she asked politely. “I think that is because of the server.” The girl was surely pissed. “Ma’am, this cake is black forest cake. It will not taste bland, I guarantee that. It is patronized by our customers here.” “Don’t lecture me whatnots. I want a refund.” “Ma’am, before you ordered, you should have read the menu carefully. It was written in bold and capital letter in red color. NO REFUND.” The girl looks mad now. She held her glass and splashed the water to Miracle. Everyone in the café gasped and she smirked triumphantly. Miracle wiped the water that were spilled on her face, she saw how the boyfriend of that girl tries to calm her down. “Don’t you have anything better to do rather than shame servers?” miracle asked. She was trying all her best to calm all her nerves. “I’m not shaming you! Hell!” She inched herself towards her and she saw an emotion that crossed her eyes – fear. She smirked and she whispered… “Hell will be your place one day. Just because your boyfrined was staring at me doesn’t mean that you have the right to bad mouth me in public. This is just a subtle warning. Control your temper before it controls you. You have no reason to do this but your impartiality. I will let this slide but remember that I have a sharp mind. I can find you if I want however I don’t want to hold grudges. Did you hear some noise earlier? Some noise like barking?” “N-no.” the girl shook her head and she looked around the place. Probably looking for the source of noise. “Oh, I thought I just heard it. Is my hearing impaired already? But I was so sure that I heard some b***h barking. Was it you? Ah! it was you, but you barked the wrong tree.” She smiled before she left the girl dumbfounded and unmoving on her spot. She exhaled loudly when she was already at the locker area. Slowly, her body lose its strength. This is the first time that she stood up for herself and right now, she wants to give a round of applause to her self with a standing ovation. “What with you do with the b***h girl? She was in a hurry to leave the Café.” “I just knocked some sense on her Mariah. I guess it was effective.” “I did not saw you lift a finger.” “It’s unprofessional if I do so. A burning fire can never die with a fuel or another fire.” “It needs water?” “No, remove the oxygen and it dies. It’s just a matter of moving some critical points in the brain to make a person convinced.” “I reallly don’t know what you did but for sure, she deserved it. Hurry up. A lot of orders are lining up.” “I’ll be there in a jiffy.” The night went on smoothly after that. The next morning, Miracle was watering the plants when she was startled. She found Grey at the garden. At first she was not aware of who he was so she turned the hose to its fullest gear and splashed the water to the unaware creature that was crouching behind the shrubs. “What were you doing there? You looked like a theif. Look at you, all soaked.” “I came here to see you. Is that bad huh?” “It’s not but don’t hide on the plants and startle me. What do you need? You are so early.” “I came here to court you.” The two of them heard and imaginary sound of crickets and crow. Yep! Awkward. Then soon enough, Miracle burst out laughing. Grey was still puzzled why. It took her two full minutes before she halt and wipe the edges of heer eyes. “What a great morning joke. Thanks for that Grey. I say, you keep it up huh.” She patted his shoulder and picked up the hose once again and started to water the plants. Grey was still unnerved and then he spoke softly… “I am telling you the truth Miracle. I am serious about you. I like you. I like you so much. Eversince the day we first met at the school, I like you already. I realized that as the time passes by, this feelings I have for you grows and it plunges deeper and deeper in my heart. I know it is not enough and it is unbelievable but love knows no time right? Honestly, it took me a lot of hours before I decided to tell you about my feelings. I put all my courage just for this confession…” “I’m so sorry Grey.” “No please, don’t say sorry to me Miracle. It makes my heart ache so much. Just let me be. Let me prove it to you. I know that you will not accept my heart as of the moment but please don’t turn me down.” “Grey, we are still young. I know that love knows no time. But I don’t have feelings for you. It pains me to hurt your feelings but I must tell you the truth. You are my friend so that is why I will not tolerate this. Do you think that nothing will change after this confession of yours?” “No please, please Miracle.” “No. It’s please, Grey. You are a good guy but we are still stuggling in life – I am. It might be ridiculous but it is never unreasonable. I have no time for love or relationships. I am just starting to establish basic ones, and that is friendship. And it is all I can offer you.” “I am aware of that. But it is not bad to take risks too Miracle. I am not forcing you but just keep it in your mind that I will wait for your reply. I will wait no matter how long it will take. I will.” “It’s your choice but do believe when I say that I will always turn you down.” “Don’t worry, I am optimistic. There are two sides of the coin. You keep on saying tails but one day somehow, everything will change and the results will be heads and I will prove you that.” “Before you prove anything else to me, why don’t you go home and change your clothes? You’ll freeze from cold when you will do it later. I’ll just act as if this encounter did not haappened at all so we will never be awkward to each other. Ok?” Grey reluctantly nodded and he sighed heavily as he saw Miracle ascending the stairs. He turned his back and went to the gate of his grandmother’s house. Miracle on the other hand, quickly closed the door of the roof top room. She leaned on it while she was still clutcing her chest. “Stay still my heart. Stay still. He was just joking. Okay?” she tried to calm down by breathing in and out. Her heart was still beating so fast that she needed to drink a glass of cold water. “This is bad. I need to focus in fixing my life. Love is a luxury that I can’t buy ssince my time is just worth a dime.” Miracle picked up her usual clothes – a white t-shirt and black pants. She headed straight to the bathroom and turned on the faucet and took a cold bath. “Ah! That was refreshing and it made my mind go straight again. Havainas Miracle Leeven, you should be held liable of your life and therefore, you will not need some lovelife in the next few years. You need to work your bones off and graduate sooner okay? Now, let’s apply a bit of makeup.” She smiled as she was satisfied with the result and she headed to HM Café. She greeted everyone with a smile. Mariah was the first one to notice that something definitely changed. “Hey girl, what happened? You seem happy today.” “Not much. Its just that, someone confessed his feelings to me early this morning.” “Eyy! That was absolutely great. Is he now courting you? did you say yes?” Mariah asked excitedly. “I turned him down.” “What the? You just turned him down? Don’t you know that he has feelings too?” “I’m aware. But I don’t want to give him false hopes. Just because someone has feelings for you doesn’t mean that you should reciprocate it. As of the moment, what I need is to make some money for myself. Only me can help me in this situation. Love is a luxury that I can’t afford to have.” “You should have given it a try. Don’t you like him too?” “With all honesty, I like him. He is kind, he is always there for me, he is supportive. He too is trustworthy. But despite of all this positive attitudes and attributes that he have, he will not save me from my agony and misery. He might try but until when? Until what extent? I am new to this freedom and I am still trying to explore what was outside my box. He might not understand my reasons at all. It is not that I am afraid to try new things. I am afraid that I might be overwhelmed by the fact that these things are new to me. I have my goals in life and love is not one of them.” “You are hopeless.” Maraih rolled her eyeballs and I just laughed a bit. I know that it is not the most likely result she wants to hear but I can’t really feed her up with lies, can I? “I’m contrary to that. Now, let’s just focus on getting all the work done so that we can go home early.” “As if our shift ends after one round of serving. We will wait for the time still.” “Then at least we can relax a bit. Don’t worry about me Mariah. I believe that if he is the one for me, then he won’t give up.” “Hush now. The customers piles up.” We worked in haste as the rush hour came. I can feel my back and my legs getting stiff but I still continued to serve. I have been standing for straight five hours afterall. I was just happy that the work flow went smoothly. I looked at the happy customers inside. There are some chatting to their friends, some to colleages and there were even lovers inside the café. That’s why I never want any part-time job other than this because, seeing different people, serving them, and seeing their different emotions from time to time makes me understand a little bit of how the world and how life really works. It is just a shallow basis though but as the days went on, I know what seems fake and what’s real. Some says that it is upon the eye where one can say if a person is telling the truth or lying straight. But over the years, I know and I experienced that even the eyes can lie to hide certain emotions that we are afraid that others might see.
