Sam seemed to sense my discomfort and went along with the topic change. "A few, yeah. I still meet up with Mike and Chloe occasionally. They actually got engaged last month."
My eyes widened in surprise. "Really? Wow, that's great news. I always thought they were perfect for each other."
"Yeah, they're really happy," Sam said. "They asked about you, actually. Wondered if we still kept in touch."
I raised an eyebrow. "And what did you tell them?"
Sam shrugged. "The truth. That we hadn't really been in contact, but that I hoped to change that. They seemed glad to hear it."
I nodded, feeling a mix of emotions. It was strange to think about our old friend group, how things had changed since the breakup. "Maybe we should organize a get-together sometime. It would be nice to see everyone."
