By now, most of the diners in the restaurant had cranked their necks to see what was going on. The slap was loud and hot, which caused them to turn and stare. “Gosh! He's been dumped!” “What? How can he be dating that beauty? I'm sure he's making a joke. It's good she has put him in his place.” “That young man is so romantic. Look how he's holding that beauty. That waiter needs to be locked up!” Klein wiped the water from his face, clenched his teeth and pulled Lara up. “This has to be a joke. Come home with me and I'll make up for my lapses.” He pulled her up, taking her unawares, causing her to fall backwards but Rex was fast enough to grab her. “Smack!” he slapped Klein hard on the face. “Are you crazy? Do you want to hurt her? Get out of here now! Call me your manager. I'm withdrawing my membership in this restaurant since their employees don't behave well!” Hearing the commotion and as if on cue, the manager hurried out at that time. The noise was coming from the VIP section and he knew he had a responsibility of treating them well to maintain their patronage. “What's going on here? Mr Rex, I apologise for inconveniences,” the manager apologised immediately after he came out. Rex was a wealthy young master and the manager always loved to curry his favour. Rex tipped the restaurant greatly and he didn't dare to offend him. “Is this how your employees act? This thing was being rude to me. He should be locked up!” “Smack!” the Manager turned to Klein and slapped him hard. “Apologise to him right now! Get on your knees and beg you fool! Do you want to mess up the reputation of my restaurant?” “I can't apologise. He's the one who should!” Klein said in a voice that he didn't believe was his. How did he summon such courage? Rex opened his mouth to speak but the manager halted him. “Let me handle this, Mr Rex. Klein, you lowlife, apologise now or you will be fired!” “I can't apologise, I'm the victim here. He's seated right there with the woman I love and that shouldn’t be! He's the one who owes me an explanation and an apology.” Smack! The manager landed another slap on his face. This time, it was harder than the former, and it made him stagger backwards. “You wrench, you have three seconds to kneel and apologise or you are fired!” the manager threatened. Klein looked at the faces before him. Rex had a triumphant look on his face, while he held onto Lara. Their close proximity fueled his anger, making him even more determined to stand his ground. “I'll rather leave, let me have my wages,” he said without thinking. He was too angry to think about the aftermath of his decision. “If you leave now, forget about your pending wages. It will be used to pay for the damages you caused. Apologise now!” This man hadn't even heard from him but was very quick to blame him and accuse him of causing damages. Lara sat there, snuggling close to Rex like a kitten, infuriating Klein the more. She even had a smile on her face! He cast one last glare at them and stormed out of the restaurant. Klein walked home dejectedly. He had no money, no food, no girlfriend and no job. He was also about to lose his chances with the student loan. How on earth would he raise the money in four days? This was his highest paying part time job but he had just blown it up. “Did I make a mistake? Would it have been better if I apologised? Should I go back and beg so that I don't die of hunger?” he asked himself. Never! He would never apologise to someone who took his girlfriend, mocked and hit him. Now, he was much more miserable than he was a few hours ago. His face hurt so much from the countless slaps he received and it was a bit swollen. Damn Lara for dumping him.. “I swear, I'll be everything. I'll become everything you left me for and you will regret breaking my heart,” he swore. He continued on his way, kicking up dust with his feet. Ding Ding, his phone beeped, pulling him out of his sad thoughts. He checked the message and he's shocked to see a message from his bank. It said that he had a pending transaction of $10 billion dollars! Still in shock, his phone started ringing. He pressed the answer button and the call connected. “Hello, is this Klein Edward?” “Yes. It is.” “Thank goodness I got the right person. I've been searching for you for a long time now, sir. You have an inheritance worth billions of dollars awaiting you. I'd like you to come to the top floor of Skype company in thirty minutes for more information on your inheritance. I look forward to seeing you, Sir.” Sir? Before he could ask more questions, the line went dead. The whole thing was confusing and seeking clarity, he decided to keep up with the appointment. After all, he had nothing important to do. He had an inheritance worth billions of dollars? He? Klein, a miserable boy? There must be a mixup somewhere. He would have disregarded it but for the money he received in his bank account. However, he quickened his steps. He needed to go home, change out of his wet clothes and get back to meet the appointment. Skype company was a very popular company and it was a rare privilege to have an appointment in that company. Thirty minutes was all he had and he must not miss it. In his mad rush, he didn't bother getting into his closet to change his clothes. While he was changing, the door opened abruptly and Rose, his female roommate entered. “Gosh! What are you doing?” she screamed as she saw him in his briefs. “I…I…only ..” he struggled with the right words, grabbing his clothes to cover up. “You p*****t! How can you do something gross? You knew I was going to come in. I'm sure you know I will return from classes by this time,” she accused without batting an eyelid. “No Rose. I was in a hurry so I wasn't thinking and…” He stopped talking when he saw the look of disbelief his roommate was giving him. “Shamelessly lying through your teeth. Ahhhh! And you are still right in front of me! Why do you have to show me that?” she yelled again, pointing at his member. “I'm sorry,” he said awkwardly, took his remaining clothing and dashed into the bathroom. Ten minutes later, he was out of his house, putting on the best cloth he could lay his hands on. Fortunately for him, he found some money in his pocket that would be enough to cover his transport fare to the company. He would walk back home. He took a deep breath and jogged off to the popular company.
