The warm sunlight rays fell on my face. I blinked softly and rubbed my eyes. For a few seconds, I just lay on my bed, trying to remember where I was. I stretched a little before sitting up. My brows pulled together when I remembered how willingly I had given myself to a stranger. How did I allow that to happen? I had spent years keeping myself for Colin, refusing every time he tried to convince me. And last night… Last night, I willingly opened my legs to a man whose name I didn’t even know. I should have regretted what I did, but I didn’t. The strange part was that I had enjoyed every moment of it. For those few hours, Colin disappeared from my mind. “What is wrong with me?” I whispered, rubbing my face as I tried to understand myself. I slowly got out of bed and walked toward the mirror. I stared at my reflection for a while, wondering why I didn’t feel guilty. Maybe I had been hurt so badly that I just wanted something to take my mind away from Collins, that was why I allowed a stranger to get so close to me. I touched my lips and thought of him, my heart gave a small jump. I quickly dropped my hand and looked away from the mirror. “I don’t even know his name,” I whispered, biting my lip and frowning at my reflection. Before I could think about it any longer, someone knocked on the door. I quickly pulled my robe tighter around myself and turned toward the door. “Come in,” I said, sitting on the edge of the bed. The door opened, and the maid from yesterday stepped inside with a polite smile.“Good morning, ma’am, your mother asked me to tell you that breakfast is ready,” she said, folding her hands together and gave a small bow. “Thank you. I’ll be down soon,” I replied, brushing my hair back. She replied with a nod and left my room. I quickly got dressed and tied my hair back before leaving the room. As I walked downstairs, I kept thinking about my mother’s husband, i had heard about him before, but I had never met him. I didn’t even know what he looked like. My mother had always avoided talking much about him, and now that I was finally living in her house. I kept wondering who he was till I got to the dining table. My mother was already sitting at the table, and she smiled when she saw me. “Good morning, sweetheart. Did you sleep well?” she asked, reaching for her cup as I took the seat beside her. “Good morning, Mum. Yes, I slept well,” I replied, giving her a small smile as I settled into my chair. She looked at me for a few seconds, studying my face.“You look better this morning,” she observed, resting her hand over mine. “I feel better too,” I admitted, giving her fingers a gentle squeeze. “That’s good. I was worried about you after yesterday,” she murmured, rubbing the back of my hand. “I don’t want to think about Collins anymore,” I whispered, looking down at my plate as I played with the edge of my napkin. “You don’t have to. You are home now, and you can take your time to settle in,” she assured me, giving my hand another gentle squeeze. “Thank you, Mum,” I replied, smiling at her as I felt a little more at ease. It was then that I noticed the two other people sitting across from us. The first one looked older than me while the second one looked like we are the same age. One had dark hair and a serious face, while the other was sitting back in his chair, staring at me as if he didn’t want me anywhere near him. I looked at my mother, waiting for her to explain. “Oh, I haven’t introduced you properly,” she said, looking between us. She pointed toward the dark-haired one.“This is your stepbrother, Kael,” she introduced, giving him a warning look when he barely looked at me. Then she pointed toward the other one .“And this is Ryder, your other stepbrother,” she added, looking at him as he gave me a short nod. “Nice to meet you,” I said, forcing a small smile as I placed my hands on my lap. Neither of them answered. I looked at my mother, then back at them. The silence was uncomfortable, but I refused to let it show. “Boys, at least say hello,” my mother urged, raising an eyebrow at them. Kael finally looked at me. “Don’t expect us to start calling you our sister just because our parents got married,” he replied, leaning back in his chair as his cold words made me straighten. Ryder gave a quiet laugh and looked at me.“You should also stop acting so comfortable. This isn’t your house just because your mother lives here,” he added, lifting his cup as I stared at him. I looked between the two of them. So this was how they wanted to treat me? Fine. I wasn’t going to beg them to accept me, I leaned back in my chair and folded my arms. “Don’t worry. I didn’t come here looking for brothers,” I replied, raising my chin as I gave them a small smile. Kael raised his eyebrows, while Ryder stopped with his cup halfway to his mouth. My mother looked at me in surprise. “Freya,” she warned, giving me a look. “What? They made themselves clear,” I replied, crossing my arms tighter as I looked from one brother to the other. Before anyone could answer, a deep voice came from the doorway. “Hope I am not late,” the voice echoed through the dining room. I turned toward the voice, straining my eyes to see who was coming, then I saw green eyes, the same green eyes I had seen last night. My heart started beating hard as I stared at the man standing in the doorway. It was him.
