CHAPTER 21: THE ROAD OF BLOOD AND FLAME

796 Words
Snow still clung to Ye Qing's shoulders as he returned to the Azure Dragon Sect, his steps slow but unwavering. Each footfall cracked the earth beneath him—an echo of the overwhelming power now flowing through his veins. Disciples watched from afar, eyes wide with awe and fear. He had entered the Frozen North alone. And he had returned not just alive—but transformed. From the highest peak of the sect, Sect Master Bai Zheng watched Ye Qing’s approach. Standing beside him, Elder Wuxian narrowed his eyes. “His aura… it’s not the same. He’s crossed into something far beyond our realm.” Bai Zheng remained silent, his hands clasped behind his back. His thoughts were heavy. “He carries the scent of death and divinity. The path of the Heaven-Slaying Dao... has begun.” --- Inside the main hall, Ye Qing knelt. The elders formed a circle around him—each one silently reading the changes in his meridians, his soul sea, his cultivation base. Finally, Elder Mei spoke. “What happened in the Snow Kingdom?” Ye Qing’s voice was low. “I met one of the guardians of the old age. The Pale King.” Gasps followed. “That relic still exists?” Elder Rong muttered. Ye Qing nodded. “He tried to bind me to the will of the old heavens. But I shattered the altar. I awakened a piece of the Blood King's will.” Elder Junzi frowned. “You mean… the Blood King spoke to you?” “No. Not just spoke.” Ye Qing looked up. “He chose me.” The hall fell into stunned silence. Then— A thunderclap split the sky. The heavens themselves had heard those words. --- Above the sect, storm clouds spiraled open into a vortex of golden light. From it descended three figures, cloaked in divine robes and marked with heavenly sigils. Celestial Envoys. Representatives of the Celestial Court—the divine rulers who maintained balance between cultivation realms. One of them floated forward, his eyes burning with judgment. “I am Envoy Tian Lu of the Celestial Order,” he announced. “By decree of the Jade Heaven, Ye Qing is to be taken into custody for questioning—under charges of divine inheritance, bloodline heresy, and unlawful ascension.” The sect's disciples erupted in protest. But Bai Zheng raised a hand. “And what proof do you have?” Tian Lu extended his palm. An ethereal scroll formed—etched in starlight. “His soul has triggered Heaven’s Remembrance,” he said. “A forbidden threshold. If left unchecked, he may bring about the return of the Blood Sovereign Era.” Ye Qing stepped forward. “You fear what I might become. You fear the Blood King’s memory. But I am not him.” Tian Lu’s voice was cold. “The heavens fear only imbalance. If you defy the will of the Celestial Court, you will be marked as an enemy of the Nine Heavens.” Ye Qing summoned his spear. Then, with a calm that silenced the world, he said: “Then let the Nine Heavens prepare their coffins.” --- The first envoy moved. He struck with lightning-fast divine qi, aiming to bind Ye Qing’s limbs. But Ye Qing deflected the blow with the Crimson Monarch Spear, redirecting the attack into the nearby mountain—splitting it in half. Elder Wuxian stood. “If the Celestial Court declares war on our disciple—” “We will stand with him,” Mei said without hesitation. Bai Zheng nodded slowly. “So be it. The Azure Dragon Sect shall no longer bow to the heavens.” --- As the battle threatened to erupt in full, the third envoy—the only one who had remained silent—finally spoke. She was a woman with long silver hair and eyes like flowing water. Her aura was… different. Neither threatening nor divine. She looked at Ye Qing with something else. Recognition. “You are not yet ready,” she said softly. “But when the stars fall and the gate opens… you will be needed.” She turned to her companions. “Withdraw.” Tian Lu scowled. “He is a heretic.” “He is a storm,” she answered. “And no chain can bind a storm forever.” In a flash of light, the envoys vanished—leaving behind only silence. --- That night, the stars above the Azure Dragon Sect shimmered with unease. And in the far reaches of the cultivation world, other sects watched. The Abyss Serpent Clan stirred. The Heavenly Beast Pavilion convened. And deep beneath the earth, where no sun had touched in ten thousand years, a pair of golden eyes opened.
