Chapter 4

“Do you think we lost them?” Soraya said out of breath.

They did not even know who was chasing them or for what reason, but they were definitely not going to stand around to find out. Everything in this place seemed out of place or eerily. They constantly had the feeling that they were being watched. By who they didn't know and no one seemed to be around, which only made it seem worse.

“Ouch!” Soraya screamed before passing out.

“Soraya!” Alexa screamed frantically as she rushed to her sister where she was lying on the ground. She seemed unconscious.

A dart was in her back.

“Oh no!” Was the last word Alexa could mutter before everything went black in front of her.

Alexa awoke with excruciating pain emanating from her hands and feet. She willed her heavy eyelids open. Her body felt heavy and drained. A headache was forming in her pounding head. Once her eyes were open, she immediately studied her surroundings. She quickly threw her head left to right to see where she was, but the pain quickly reminded her to take it slower. Scrunching her eyes together, she scanned her environment slowly this time. They were outside in what seemed to be a very primitive village. Little hut-like domes were seen everywhere, but it seemed deserted. She could not recognise any of her surroundings, trying desperately to find some kind of resemblance to any monument or heritage site to give some kind of indication as to where they might be. She does not know why she even tries looking for something similar, because her mind keeps on telling her that they were nowhere near Earth.

Her hands were tied above her head on a tree branch and a heavy boulder was tied to her feet, explaining the pain that awoke her from her forced slumber. The realisation finally hit her that she could not see Soraya.

“Soraya!” She said in a loud whisper. No response. “SORAYA!” She screamed louder. No one seemed to be near as she frantically started pulling at her restraints. She needed to get out of here and fast.

“Save your voice!” A deep voice said from behind her. The man gave her a startle and she immediately stopped resisting.

She tried to turn her head but could not see the figure behind her. He dragged his feet as he walked around to where she could see him out of the corner of her eye. He was in his years with grey hair appearing on his sides and in his beard. He once had black hair, as the protruding hairline indicated. His jaw was broad and square, a superman-like face, but something was off of his otherwise handsome features. The shadow cast on his face made it difficult to determine what was off about his features.

“What did you do to my sister?” Alexa demanded ferociously.

He smiled, which made her feel even more uncomfortable. She started squirming against her restraints. Whatever they used to tie her down was cutting into her wrists. The pain made tears form in her eyes. Her body still feels weak with whatever they used to drug them.

Ronan stood a distance away looking at Alexa just sobbing and crying for her mother and father. Deep down he felt a little bit sorry for the girl and the trauma she had to endure at his hands. As strong as she seemed, she was still fragile. He felt some connection to her and felt obligated to protect her. It is probably due to his investment and loyalty towards the queen. These girls will secure her reign even further. He constantly had to push his emotions aside in the work he did. There was no space for pity. He was adamant about getting what he wanted and no little girls would stand in the way. If he had to cut out his own heart to get rid of any emotion that would stop him, he would.

Alexa finally fell asleep after her meltdown. The big question was, where is Soraya? He has been monitoring the situation for the past three hours and yet has not seen anything that could lead him to her. He had to infiltrate the enemy’s base and find her. His mind was formed like a soldier. He fought like one, he thought like one.

Soraya had an untainted and fragile beauty. The girls were identical, yet so different. Each one has her own uniqueness. Alexa had a strong fierceness in her eyes, while Soraya had a calm, sweet and innocent look in hers. With these creatures, it was sure to be ruined.

The piscine humanoids were known as the Nommo. They were cruel and wicked. They had no regard for life and they had a vengeance against the queen. He had to act fast. The Nommo were known to live in caves that had underwater caves leading back to the ocean. Once in the water, it was impossible to catch them. They used primitive villages to disguise nearby caves and lead any human or creature to a false sense of safety. What they did with them, no one knows.

Ronan sneaked past the first hut and found it empty. Typical Nommo, empty huts. He had the upper-hand as long as they stayed on the land. By the time he got to the second hut, he spotted a rock formation that was hidden between the trees. Walking past and not knowing what you are looking for, one is sure to miss it. It was definitely a hidden cave. The only problem was finding the entrance without attracting too much attention.

Ronan decided to climb a tree and take a rest in the tree while keeping a lookout for any movement from the cave. If he acted without knowing where Soraya was, he was sure to lose her. The queen will have his head for it. Her future depended on these girls and they had no say in the matter. He was still a bit unsure as to why their role was so detrimental to her. Regardless, he made himself comfortable as it was going to be a long day. The Nomma barely ever moved during daylight and the sun was showing its first signs of purple on the horizon. Once in the sky, the forest will engulf itself with a thick smog to hide its true nature and its beings again.

The cool breeze and smell of water woke Soraya. She could not recall how she got to the edge of the water or into the cave. Everything seemed a blur and her body ached. Finally, it hit her that she felt a sharp pinching pain in her neck before she passed out in the forest. She frantically started to look around her for a way to escape.

She looked at the water moving back and forth in the cave. The water was clear and a beautiful turquoise colour. It screamed to swim in. Soraya knew she should find a way out as soon as possible, but something about the water was alluring. She stepped forward and placed her toe in the water. It was not as cool as she expected it to be. It was luke warm and gave her a satisfying sensation. The desire and temptation was too big and she needed something to soothe her aching body. Looking around her once more she decides it is safe enough.

She quickly undressed, looking around her to make sure no one saw her, and jumped into the water without hesitation. She was just quickly going to take a bath. She felt so dirty and the humid weather was of no help.

It was heavenly as she felt her body just drifting into pure bliss. The water felt like healing to her body. Something was very different about this water and whatever it was, it was helping ease all the pain, resentment and torment out of her. It was a welcoming feeling she felt that she would never feel again after everything that happened and the part she played in it. She felt like she could stay like that forever until she realised Alexa was not with her. For a moment she completely forgot about her sister and fear struck her. Where could she be?

Soraya swam to a nearby boulder she jumped off into the water, and tried to scurry back up onto it. Something was pulling her by her ankle and refusing to let go.

“Let go!”

She kicked at the figure in the water that appeared to look like a man. The more she struggled to get away, the more it felt like the figure was teasing her. It was well capable of pulling her into the water, yet it enjoyed seeing her struggle until it had enough and came up out of the water. The sharp edges of the boulder made cuts into her stomach and breast.

Soraya never saw anything like it. It was a fish-like man with dark hair and pale glossy skin. Soraya screamed and turned to get out of the water, but the man pulled her onto him and bit into her shoulder. She felt paralysed but completely conscious as he groped her from behind and dragged her into his lap. He fondled himself until he pushed into her. She wanted to gasp but she was numb from the venom he injected into her with his bite.

She felt him pound in and out of her with ferocity from behind. His pace quickened as if he was in a hurry. She was helpless and could not move an inch to stop her attacker from abusing and r****g her. Her eyes froze in horror in front of her as she just wished for the nightmare to be over. Tears started to stream down her face. What is happening to her?

Another figure came barging into the cave and immediately laid eyes on Soraya. As soon as the man behind her saw him, he left her and dived into the water to make his escape. Soraya started sinking into the water. Her body being paralysed, she did not have the ability to swim or scream at the unknown man for help. She closed her eyes and felt herself submerged in the water, taking mouthfuls of water.

The figure grabbed her by the arm and jerked her up onto the boulder. He pulled her with so much force she felt her arm dislocate. She felt how her naked body was pulled out of the water and exposed to him. Embarrassment engulfed her, but he was not concerned about her nakedness or the fact that she could not move. Instead, he pulled her hair back and looked at the bite mark on her shoulder and growled at it. Without any words, he threw her over his shoulder, not minding her nakedness, and grabbed her clothes off the ground, before making a break for it.

Outside, he quickly looked around before heading out. Soraya just fell over his shoulders, completely to his advantage. As her head bobbed up and down as he was running, she saw her sister hanging from a tree. She wanted to scream at her and call her, but her mouth still would not function. The man placed her on the ground and pulled out a knife. Alexa started to scream when she saw the knife.

“Shhhh! I am not planning on hurting you!”

He quickly moved to cut the ropes above her head, catching her as she slumped into his arms. He placed her on the ground and cut loose her ankles. Alexa rubbed her palms and ankles a bit before the stranger helped her to her feet.

“Thank you. Who are you?”

“It does not matter, keep on moving. Your sister has been bitten by a Nommo.”

“A Nommo?” Alexa said with curiosity.

“No time to explain. We need to move fast and get away from here as quickly as possible before the sun goes down.”

Alexa still wanted to question the stranger, but something nudged her to trust him and get out of there as soon as possible. She looked past him to her sister only then realizing she was naked.

“What did you do to her?” Anger rushed through her.

“It was the Nommo, now get moving!” he said with great authority, which startled the girls.
