CHAPTER SIX

1602 Words
AARON I couldn’t shake the feeling after the High Elders left. Though they told me to go after school was over, I couldn’t care any less. Not being able to shake the feeling off, I decided to give the Royals’ a visit. Packing some clothes into the duffel bag I went into the shower. After the shower I quickly got dressed in a pair of jeans and a chambray shirt. Grooming myself I headed towards my dad’s office. He’s gets up pretty early. I knock on the door to the office. “Come in,” my mom’s sweet voice floats out. Confused, I open the door to find my mom straddled onto my dad’s lap, both looking in my direction. “Get a room you two,” I say averting my gaze from them towards the window, trying to get the picture out of my mind. “It’s okay sweetheart,” my mom says chuckling. “Did you want to talk about something Aaron?” my dad’s husky voice pulls my eyes away from the window. I look at them, my mom now standing next to the chair dad was seated in. Letting out a breath of relief I move towards the desk, “Yes dad.” Taking a seat I look at both of them, “Actually it’s about the Royals.” Both of them still at their places raising their eyebrows with their eyes wide open. Masking it as fast as they can, dad speaks up, “What about it?” I could sense the slight quiver in my dad’s voice. Ignoring the tension in the air, I speak, “I’m leaving right now. I want to make sure that everything’s fine.” Their hardened features seem to relax at my words. I don’t know what they were expecting me to say. “Okay,” my dad says slouching back into the chair. “Is everything okay dad?” I ask looking between mom and dad. I see hesitation in dad’s eyes when my mom chimes in, “Yes dear, it couldn’t be any better.” Mom gives me a warm smile. Assuming that everything’s fine, I get up to take my leave. “Okay then I’ll get going now. Tell Janet to take a ride with Charles’. I don’t know when I’ll be getting back.” “You’re doing a great job at this sweetheart.” I turn back to my mother’s voice to find her eyes glistening with tears. Amused at my mother’s emotions I move towards her engulfing her in a bear hug. “I love you mom,” I brush her hair down as she hugs me back, “I hope I’m doing.” “Oh you’re doing far from good son,” dad tries to stand up. I immediately help him to his crutches. Standing stable, he puts his arm over mom and snuggles her into his chest. I look at them adorably, at the love they share. I don’t think it’s in my fate to love someone that much or better; to be loved. Giving them one last glance I walk out of the office. I hear my dad’s distant voice, “I’m proud of him.” I smile and rush down the stairs picking up my duffel bag which I left at the door. Picking up the keys to my Mazda MX, I head out to my car. Once I’m on the road I mind link my beta. ‘Charles! Take care of the pack for today.’ ‘Okay. But where are you going?,’ Charles replies back. ‘To the Royals. I’ll be back by tomorrow. Look over Janet too.’ ‘Is everything okay?’ ‘It’s nothing serious.’ ‘Does Janet need to know about-‘ I cut him off in the middle. ‘No! Not a word to her.’ I growl at him, ‘Tell her its pack business if she asks.’ ‘Yes Alpha!‘’ With that I block the link. Putting my focus back on the road I turn up the radio. I shuffle through the stations when my hand stops involuntarily at a random one. Christina Peri’s ‘A Thousand Years’ floats out of the speaker. I smile when memories come flooding in. This was my sister’s favorite song. Though she couldn’t sing so well but she sang this for me when I had nightmares or couldn’t sleep. Sometimes she would just sing random songs to irritate the hell out of me. Oh what a pain in the ass she was! The song ends and so does my daydream. Reality sets in and August is no more here with me. A sob builds up inside me. Sniffling it away I plug in the AUX chord connecting it to my phone. I play random rock music to keep me posted to the present. After seven hours of non-stop driving I reach my destination. Ten well build men stand in black suits on each side outside the giant tall gates. One of the guards comes towards me and taps on the window. I roll the window down and look up at him, “I’m Alpha Aaron of the Argent Pack. I’m expected here today.” He murmurs something into the mic on his suit coat and nods at the man sitting inside the guard post. The heavy metal gates open creaking loudly. Closing the window I drive past the gates through the driveway. The driveway is long. It’s actually a path through the forest. It’s like a custom made forest. Unlike my pack, the Royals don’t socialize with other species. Not even with their own species in different packs. Why? Well everything comes to a full stop with the word. Royalty. Yes, they are the werewolf kings. Everyone here is of pure werewolf blood. They don’t even go in search of their mates. They choose their life partners as it is done in the human world. They then mark them making them their soul mates. The lucky ones are the ones whose mates lie within the pack. How do they have education here you say? Private school is the answer. All the remnants here are alphas and very powerful ones at that. But like in a normal pack, they hold ranks. Imagine all the dominant, possessive, authoritative leaders living under the same roof. It’s a countdown to a ticking time bomb. According to what my dad said The Royals’ used to function in harmony for thousands of years. Though there had been glitches but they got past them. But this time it was not just a glitch but a total system failure. It all started ten years ago when the pack members realized that the King did not have an heir. Of course rumors were there and many vapid theories, one of them being that the Royal couple having secret individual affairs. People and their theories! Never do they know how to mind their own business. I reach the castle prototype and pull up my car alongside some other cars in the driveway. I call it castle prototype because the King told me that it’s not a castle but a mansion when it looks exactly like a castle. This place is like a freaking kingdom in the United States! Taking my bag with me I lock my car and head towards the castle. I pass through the guards standing at the front doors. I acknowledge each one of them as they do the same to me. Putting my bag down beside a long couch, I walk straight through the foyer to the back door. Loud cheers and applauses are heard as I approach. I open the doors to find four men fighting inside a circle. All of them are covered in blood but they still keep going at each other. Looking around I find men and women watching the fight and cheering out loud. My eyes search for a particular someone. When I find him his eyes meet him. Gavin gives me a surprised smile when he sees me. I walk down the steps pushing through the crowd to get to him. Midway I meet him as Gavin gives me in a bro hug to which I respond happily. “Aaron mate! Long time no see!” Gavin shouts over the sound of the crowd. “I’ve been busy with the pack. Being an alpha and all,” I reply back shouting. “Let’s get out of here. I can’t hear you well,” Gavin says as he guides me through the crowd to the clearing. I was happy to see my friend after a long time. I was going to ask him how were things with him and the pack when a voice cut through silencing the crowd. “Look who’s here! Aaron Edgar Sharp, the King’s foot licking pet!” Only one thought passed my mind that moment- I’m going to kill that f*****g son of a b***h.
