Mia barely slept that night. Every little sound outside her bedroom window made her nervous. The shadow she had seen standing near her house refused to leave her mind. She kept turning in bed, staring at the ceiling while the necklace her grandmother gave her rested tightly in her hand.
At exactly 3:17 a.m., her phone suddenly lit up beside her pillow.
UNKNOWN NUMBER: You should have stayed away.
Mia sat up immediately, her heart racing wildly. Her fingers trembled as she looked around her dark room. The curtains moved gently from the cold night breeze, making everything feel even creepier.
“Who is this?” she typed quickly.
But no reply came.
The next morning, Mia looked exhausted as she entered school. Dark circles sat under her eyes, and she could barely focus during class. Her best friend Ava quickly noticed something was wrong.
“You look like you saw a ghost,” Ava whispered while sitting beside her.
Mia forced a weak smile. “I barely slept.”
“That bad?”
Mia hesitated for a moment before leaning closer. “Someone was outside my house last night.”
Ava’s smile disappeared instantly. “Wait… seriously?”
Mia nodded slowly. “And I got a weird message this morning.”
Before Ava could ask more questions, Mia’s phone vibrated again under the desk. Nervously, she opened it.
UNKNOWN NUMBER: Stop searching for the truth before it’s too late.
A cold chill ran down her spine.
“What does it say?” Ava asked.
“Nothing important,” Mia lied quickly as she locked her phone.
But deep down, she knew this was becoming dangerous.
The rest of the school day felt strange. Mia noticed a tall boy wearing a black hoodie standing at the end of the hallway several times. He seemed to be watching her carefully. Whenever she tried to walk toward him, he disappeared into the crowd of students.
By afternoon, Mia decided not to go home immediately. Instead, she walked toward the old library at the edge of town. Few people ever visited the place anymore because everyone believed it was abandoned.
As she pushed open the heavy wooden doors, dust filled the air. The old shelves stretched across the dark room, packed with ancient books. The silence inside felt unnatural.
An elderly librarian looked up slowly from behind the desk.
“You came back,” the woman whispered softly.
Mia frowned in confusion. “I think you have the wrong person. I’ve never been here before.”
The woman’s eyes suddenly dropped to the silver necklace around Mia’s neck. Fear instantly appeared on her face.
“That necklace…” the librarian murmured.
“You know what it means?” Mia asked quickly.
The woman stood up nervously. “You need to leave this place now.”
“Why?”
“Because once they know you have it, they will never stop hunting you.”
Mia’s breathing became shaky. “Who are they?”
Before the librarian could answer, every light inside the library suddenly shut off.
Darkness swallowed the room.
Mia froze as slow footsteps echoed between the shelves.
Step.
Step.
Step.
Someone else was inside the library.
Then a familiar voice whispered from directly behind her.
“They finally found you.”
Mia turned around instantly, her heart pounding harder than ever.
Standing in the darkness was the mysterious boy in the black hoodie, staring directly into her terrified eyes.
