Chapter 4 Hospital Bills

"So what now?" Victor's confidence began to grow by the second.

Mister Collins smiled as he replied to Victor. It wasn't easy to convince someone that he was a man of great power after 25 years.

"Now, it's time you meet your grandfather, the previous Courtman. He's been expecting you since last night; I believe both of you have a lot to discuss." Said Mister Collins with a grin.

"My grandfather is the previous Courtman? That's amazing. But you haven't mentioned my parents. Aren't they expecting me as well?" Victor questioned.

It took a few seconds before Mister Collins said another word to Victor. "Everyone is expecting to meet you, my lord," he said, bowing to avoid eye contact with Victor.

"I'm afraid I can't go with you now. My wife needs me," Victor said.

Mister Collins gave Victor an understanding nod and reached into his pocket. He then brought out two cards. "Here's my card; feel free to give me a call anytime. I am at your service," he said, handing both cards to Victor.

Victor viewed both cards and realized that one seemed to be a bank card, "And what is this card for" he asked Mister Collins raising the bank card to be specific.

"It's one of the two customized Graziano family bank cards. Last I checked, there should be more than twenty billion dollars in it. That should cover your bills until we meet again,"

Victor's jaw dropped in disbelief. "Twenty billion dollars?" He replayed the amount in his head over and over again. Indeed the Graziano family were trillioniares.

In his entire life, he hadn't even had a million dollars to call his own. And to add things up, after Lord Herbert's illness, he has never seen a thousand dollars in his account for the past two years.

Mister Collins went ahead and told Victor the passcode of the card. "The passcode was recently set to your original date of birth, being February second, nineteen ninety-two; in other words, the passcode is 2 9 9 2."

With that information, Mister Collins bowed once again and took his leave.

Not too long after, Emily walked inside to meet Victor. She did see Mister Collins leaving the hospital floor, but she didn't know that he had come out from her husband's room.

Emily hugged Victor, and her eyes went teary again. "I saw the video of your truck last night, and I thought you were gone," she sobbed.

"It's fine, babe. Let's go home, and I will explain everything later," Victor said, getting up from the bed. However, he froze in his tracks as he heard his wife's next words.

"About that, babe, we can't afford the bills. So the hospital won't let you leave," she said, looking down in tears.

Victor and Emily had been living hand to mouth for the past years, and they were unable to save a penny for a situation like this.

Victor knew that Emily's family could settle the bills without even noticing that they had paid for something. However, the fact that his wife was talking about the bills means that they might have refused to help them.

"Lady Herbert won't lend me the money," Emily added as she sobbed heavily.

Victor's eyes were burning heavily as he saw his wife crying. How could one's family be so cruel to their own blood? Victor thought.

At least now he knew he could turn things around with his newfound identity of being the Graziano family heir.

The Graziano family was known to be the most influential family in the northern region. They practically owned every property in it, or had shares in them. From what little Victor knew about the Graziano family, they should have connections with the hospital.

Victor was left with two choices, and he needed to choose one in order to stop his wife's sobbing. Mister Collins had left Victor with two cards, so Victor might choose to call him to settle the hospital bills, or he might use the Graziano family card to settle the bills himself. However, knowing that he couldn't explain how he had access to such money if he paid with the card, Victor decided to give Mister Collins a quick call.

"Sit down, babe. I will quickly use the restroom and be back. I promise we're not going to spend another minute here when I return," Victor spoke confidently.

Emily, seeing the impossibility from what Victor was saying just ignored his words but seated to wait for him.

Victor angrily walked into the restroom and dialed the number on the other card. It didn't rang twice before Mister Collins picked up.

"It's me Victor."

Mister Collins smiled at the other end of the line and inhaled shortly before responding. "I didn't expect your call this soon. Or perhaps, there's something you need?"

Victor didn't know how to go with the request, but if indeed he was the Graziano family heir, this should be a little task for Mister Collins to handle on his behalf.

"I need the hospital bills settled right away, and also I want a cab to drive me and my wife home when we reach outside," Victor commanded.

Without any complaints, Mister Collins accepted to do just as Victor had ordered him. "As you wish, My Lord."

Victor didn't spend another second there after ending the call, but reaching outside the restroom, he realized that a doctor was already here.

"Babe!" Emily's face lit up with joy. "The hospital bills have been cleared. We're free to leave now," she added in excitement.

"Victor was speechless; he couldn't fathom how the payment was made so quickly when it hadn't even been ten seconds. Had Mister Collins already paid for the bills before leaving? He wondered. But if that were the case, Mister Collins would have informed him over the phone.

Curious, Victor decided to ask the doctor who had made the payment. Surprisingly, the room door swung wide open, and standing there was Sam from the Bloomberg family.

"I made the payment," Sam spoke up with a wide smile. "I was with Lady Herbert when your call came in. I'm glad I could be of help, Emily," Sam added, looking deeply into Emily's eyes.

Emily was just finding out herself that Sam was the one who had settled the bills. She thought maybe her family had reconsidered helping them. Victor, on the other hand, was furious as he knew what Sam was trying to prove.

Just as Sam was basking in the glory of paying the bills, the Head Doctor of the hospital walked in. Immediately the doctor who was attending to Victor and his wife noticed his Superior's presence, he respectfully stepped aside.

"Good day to you all. I believe you're Emily Herbert, correct?" the Head Doctor asked Emily.

"Yes, I'm Emily," she confirmed.

"Well, someone has cleared your husband's bills," the Head Doctor revealed.

Emily and the others already knew that the bills were cleared, so the news wasn't surprising. However, Sam who was feeling proud wanted to boast to the Head Doctor that he had personally made the payment.

"We already know someone cleared the payment, and that's me, of course," Sam grinned proudly, but what struck him next wasn't expected.

Sam's phone buzzed almost instantly, and the Head Doctor continued. "Check your phone sir; if you made the first payment, then that's your money being refunded back to you in full."

"What! Why?" Emily quickly questioned in perplexity, while Sam checked his message.

Victor, on the other hand, suspected that this was Mister Collins' work. After all, the Graziano family was capable of anything.

Sam confirmed his refund as informed. However, it annoyed him, as he was no longer able to receive the honor of doing a great deed for Emily.

After noticing that Sam has confirmed the payment, the Head Doctor resumed speaking. "As I said, someone has cleared your husband's bills. Additionally, you, your husband, and the Herbert family have been given lifetime insurance for treatment and any other activities in this hospital and our other branches."

Victor didn't expect that his simple request would result in refunding Sam's payment and providing them with lifetime insurance at the hospital, which was amazing.

Victor felt great satisfaction as he saw the humiliation and anger in Sam's eyes. He had always wanted Sam to experience a taste of humiliation, and this was just the beginning.

Emily decided to ask the question, 'Who had made the payment?'
