Seraphina My bare feet kept slapping against the wet grass. Branches slashed my skin as I ran through the suffocating darkness of the forest. My lungs hurt with every ragged breath, my heartbeat beating so violently against my ribcage it felt ready to burst free. Sharp stones and rotting pine needles shredded the soles of my bare feet, but the pain barely reached me anymore. All that mattered was running. I could hear deep growls behind me, vibrating through the woods and straight into my bones. I should have been afraid.
